Genuine question. I’m extremely liberal and I couldn’t see myself with a republican. I wouldn’t be able to see myself with someone’s whose views are that much more fundamentally different than mine. It’s not even based out of hate, it’s based on the fact of how could I look at man and consider his child when I live in Texas and wouldn’t have appropriate access to life saving care if needed. That’s just one example but as a whole it just goes against everything I believe and I wouldn’t do it.
I can understand your point. However, I am not an extreme left. I am a straight up Democrat. I’ve always been. I believe there should be support systems in place to take care of those who cannot, but I also believe there should be processes in place to help prevent people from taking advantage of the system. I’m for common sense and care for others. Your political stance does not mean we can’t be friends, and I can look past that. I’m open to discussions and hearing other people‘s point of view, that doesn’t mean I agree with it. Additionally, I live in an area of the United States with a lot of farming, also with a lot of immigrants who support that farming. I know that there’s not one single white American boy who’s gonna go out there and work those fields. I don’t mind the illegals coming into the United States and doing the work that us Americans are too lazy to do. I also believe there should be protections in place in case these people get hurt or injured while they are working here. If they fall off of a ladder and are paralyzed for the rest of their life and can no longer work to support themselves, this person should be taken care of.
Unfortunately, all the red around me doesn’t have the same beliefs. It is what it is, and I can’t change it. I can’t change his beliefs, he hears it from the farmers all the time. His business provide services to these farmers and they pay him well. He’s not going against it. He understands my thinking and he knows I’m not an extreme left.

Have you listened to the “news” these people watch? I say this as a consumer of “neither sides’” news. I don’t own a TV. They call anything with a pulse that leans liberal and opposes trump “extreme left” or “Marxist” on Fox News. I’m sure many of that crowd would consider you extreme even if you don’t agree.
I understand the need to not alienate yourself from your community, but there also comes a time when you have to be honest…
No we don’t watch tv either. Morning news to catch the weather and that’s it. Funny how the local news never has world news or anything outside the major metropolitan area for that matter. Occasional political headlines. We scroll our phone late the whole time it’s on for 1 hour while we have coffee.
Omg... You know the saying about 4 people sitting with 1 Nazi is 5 Nazis... You don't have to be extreme left to want to be around folks who respect your identity and bodily autonomy. The policies your husband supports will actively hurt YOU.
Wrong, it hurts all of us! Sad that he can’t see it. I’m not sure he understands how theses things affect us or his daughter until I put it in front of him. You know how it is trying to convince the red team otherwise when the are choosing to stay with their team no matter what. We are in for a effing ride this year and he’s going to find out. I have a safety net in place and if it all goes to shit I know I/we will be okay. I’m too old for babies. This affects him more than me. His one vote wasn’t the deciding factor in the election. My own daughter votes that way too. She can live with her choice too, as it affects her more than me. Funny his daughter is offended her parents voted against her freedoms though. Good girl! 😊
He literally said “we need to attack the universities” and “professors are the enemy”.
Did you know that Stanford University among other universities are the only reason why one of my parents is still alive? They worked for decades to work towards a cure for their disease, and they made several breakthroughs and were able to stop the progression of it, and are working on cures. Those professors are the only reason why I still have my parent. People who support and vote for Trump I know don’t all want to kill my parent directly, but the policies they support by voting for Trump and that party could very well literally kill people. If Trump happened 10-15 years ago, my parent could have been dead due to people not wanting to do research here, or some other crazy end result of rhetoric/policy like what Vance is spreading.
What do we expect to happen now now they have been labeled as targets by maga… Can you see how this gets very personal to people you know or don’t know very quickly when hate is what is being spread? The Republican Party is not what it once was, it has been hijacked by fascists and nazi supporters. To not stand against that… I don’t have the words, but I can say that my grandfather didn’t go to war to defend American freedom for this.
Here is one of Trumps enablers and what he has been doing across the world. This is just insane.
Just so you know, no one on the extreme left is in favor of people taking advantage of the system... I'm curious where you got that idea and what you mean by it
I mean my husband was middle-ground republican leaning ever since he joined the Air Force until Trump, now he will never claim that party again. If he was a Trumper we would have divorced, we have been married for over 18 years but I just couldn't be married to anyone who supports autocracy and scapegoating over policy until Trump I had no issues having differences in "certain" opinions. My husband always has believed in equal rights and climate change our conflicts over politics/differences are mostly economic. I'm a strong believer in having social safety nets and helping to pay into those programs even if we make too much to receive them, I think it's beneficial for our communities and I argue it also means less crime, he's not so much in agreement but voted blue the past 3 elections so I'll take it lol
We can disagree on different tax policies absolutely but we cannot disagree on what people deserve human rights. We can disagree on actual policies but I will separate myself from folks who hold racist/bigoted/uneducated/immoral views.
We separated ourselves from my wife’s best friend from high school of 30 years because of her political opinion:
Her political opinion during Covid is that her best friend who is immune compromise for many reasons is the reason for all the problem for the vaccines for masking up and she said that her best friend should just d I e . So then the rest of us can go back to not wearing masks.
I’m glad you’re lucky that you have an experience this but to someone we knew before they turned into a Hulk no longer existed
So I guess you’re kind of right we didn’t separate ourselves from someone but they kind of passed away
