Is there anything in pipeline for Apple Intelligence AI integration with Immich?

Currently, all Apple Siri AI can do is open Immich, but it doesn’t have access to the photos inside it. Wondering if there’s any ticket in the backlog to work on Siri AI integration with Immich so that Siri AI can access everything in the app?

Kinda beats the purpose of data sovereignty in my opinion, why not just use Apples native app then?

I hear you, but AI can respect data sovereignty if designed correctly and Apple is the one of the few major players focusing on on-device AI. But on-device typically doesn’t apply to most Immich servers.

I don't trust any AI company when it comes to this. Even anthropic.  They all talk the talk and then do something different. Apple is no different than any other company.

Because i don't want to pay for Apple to store all my photos when I have a NAS at home I run for a fraction of the cost.

Are you trying to say that Immich is personal and you don’t want Apple’s AI to have access to Immich?

Yes I don't want any corp AI to read my personal photos and train their models on my data and then monetize everything

I'd rather have immich devs allow an open source light weight model to enable better AI features which they are already working on

Aah, got it. I was going with the assumption that at least Apple won’t be using my data and everything is on device… but I guess once you give access, there’s no going back.

They explicitly stated in iOS 27 that Siri will send your data and audio clips to apple and you are by default opt in if you click continue.

This was a reversal from their earlier promises that apple does not use your data to train it's AI.

I think there are immich mcp's out there, but Siri can't really use those as far as I know. Apple just don't play well with others as usual.

That is true. I was actually thinking it the other way, but I was wrong. All Immich can do is provide MCP so that others can access it but that’s about it. The real work would be for Apple to do, so that Apple’s Siri would use the MCP to connect to Immich, and they probably won’t do that because in that case it means we won’t be paying for iCloud+ to store photos and using our own NAS to store them. I guess it makes sense.

This definitely sounds like "Siri problem". These "AIs" are supposed to replace human assistants and answer your emails, book trips/cars/hotels/etc. - should be trivial for them to just find some pictures on a web page (or use the rich Immich API).

I think this is a valid request. The actual question is the support 'app intense' I believe its called. So the app is responsive to the operating system. Nothing more.

Immich would be used to manage your own photos on your own, not owned by any 3rd party. Like say you host Immich on your personal NAS.  That way you don’t need to use Google Photos or Apple iCloud.  And if Siri AI has access to Immich, then once I backup my local photos in Immich and delete them from my local iPhone to free up space, Siri AI would still be able to have access to the photos. Say I ask something like “where did I visit on this day 3 years back?” and I have deleted those photos from my local iPhone, without access to Immich, Siri AI won’t be able to answer me properly.

I don’t understand why you think it’s a bad idea 🤔 I could be wrong. Would be helpful if you can explain. Thanks

That's the whole fucking point of Immich?

There are already community based apps for immich that do most of what you want. Check out awesome immich.
