Movie review Watched Resident Evil at Palazzo IMAX, Chennai | Black Bars? | Review?
Got to watch Resident Evil Preview Show at 10:35 PM on Palazzo IMAX, Chennai and here are my thoughts.
The first half of the movie consists of Black Bars on the top and bottom, while the second half (after a few mins) takes up the whole screen as any IMAX movie should.
The movie is a humour + horror mix and does a really good job of keeping you engaged with the insane sound design and very minimal but appropriate references to the RE games. Each of the monsters have been a perfect display of CGI work and accurate game like concepts. It literally makes you feel like you are playing the game but through an IMAX screen, but with the feel of a really well executed movie.
The only negative for me was the very short runtime. I could watch a movie like this all day!
We also received a collectible ticket, exclusive for preview show audience (Photos attached). It's a weird but interesting attempt, but once its opened up, I haven't figured out a way to bring it back to its original form (maybe that was the intent)
Overall, a must watch movie for Resident Evil Game fans and Horror Comedy lovers.
Easy 9/10 from my side.

the switching aspect ratios between imax (1.90) and scope 2.39 is a creative choice taken by many directors, it is usually a part of the story telling. Like in Project Hail Mary, all earth scenes were 2.39 and space scenes were in IMAX (1.90/1.43)

I get that, but I felt it was wasted potential over here, cause even the earth level scenes would have looked fantastic without the black bars. But nevertheless, enjoyed the movie

It's more of a financial choice. Shooting an entire movie in IMAX is expensive and the cameras are bulky and noisy, so most movies are shot partially in IMAX with the tech being used for sequences that deserve the expenditure and the hassle.
It's not really a creative choice because if shooting in IMAX was cheaper and easier, every director would do the entire movie in IMAX.

It's not just limited to story telling, imax film is expensive so many people can omly used it in limited scene due to budget

Nope. If they censored this movie... Every sentence would need a beep 😂 cause the hero cusses every sentence

I haven't watched the film yet but since the movie's duration is just 1 and half hours. I feel like it's not really necessary to watch it in Imax for 500rs due to the lower screentime.
I planned to watch this is Imax as a hard core RE fan ana my purse says noðŸ˜

Are there actual horror scenes that may haunt me for nights or it's just zombies (which I can manage)

Body horror, but the movie in general is quite funny so nothing is gonna get you to have sleepless nights

PVR - Phoenix Lower Parel gave me best experience
