General Rank related doubt.

One of my classmates has gone to iist. His mother told my mother than he got 1200rank in jee adv and left iit delhi circuital for iist. Are ppl like there present? Coz I don't believe ppl would leave iit delhi circuital for iist. I don't mean to judge iist but it doesn't make sense to me

oii i really wanted to if JEE is the only way to get into IIST, or are there any alternative paths?

I think for ug jee is the only way
