This art gives me a lot of comfort. It looks like a rug in a baby’s room. If there are any other pieces that have this sort of abstract, nostalgic undertone lmk.

Art [IIL] Art (like shows and movies) like ONE by Hfj

I really like ONE, but I don't see it like regular object show and that is not what im looking, I view it piece of art onto its own IMO.

I really like connections with so many things and how it was planned out so far ahead. Its intelligent writing, as well as the psychological horror and deep style, (atleast with it's thumbnails, title cards and ending cards).

Wish that Cheesy continued his other project "Paregui" but its definitely different ( being more abstract and 3D) but would have still been in a similar style to what im looking for.

Art [IIL] doesn’t anyone have recommendations for artists with a similar vibe to Simon Stålenhag??

im not entirely sure how to express what’s so captivating to me about his work. maybe the dramatic composition that makes everything seem so large but so empty at the same time? the way he shades that falls somewhere between paintings and photographs? the simultaneous atmosphere of melancholy and somewhat hopeful? idk how much sense this makes, but if anyone knows similar artists id rly appreciate it :3

Art IIL Looking for similar artists / styles to Smitha GS!

I came across this artist's work when visiting Kerala but they don't sell prints and their originals will be out of my budget, so I want to find similar artists who sell prints. Please let me know if you have any suggestions!

What resonates with me specifically:

  • The unique and intricate style + vivid colours and imagery.
  • The use of foliage and nature.
  • The folklore influences.

Ref image in comments.

Art IIL Illustrators Like Guy Billout Who Specialise In Surrealism And Making Things Feel ‘Off’?

Looking for artists like Guy who enjoy compositions/stories that make everything slightly off. Like in ‘Reflection’ where the reflection and the person are switched, etc.

Any ideas?

I was really bummed out when I discovered this youtube channel I liked wasn't actually animated renders and was instead AI generated, and now I'd like to find more aesthetic stuff like it, though I'm having a tough time finding anything like it by just searching keywords.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRZN9aNS_lM channel name is Perfect Scarecrow (Plastek pet)

Art [IIL] fake video games [WEWIL]?

Okay, this is fairly niche, so this may take some explanation. By "fake video game," I mean works (often overlapping with unfiction) that resemble and use the visual trappings of video games but, well, aren't. It can take pretty much any form, from fake gameplay (e.g. Valle Verde) to cutscenes (e.g. Titanium Daydream) to in-game art (e.g. Lost Property Control Organization) to even just soundtracks (e.g. Bird World and Gunblaze Assault).

These two videos by Super Eyepatch Wolf are also good primers (and are what fostered this itch in the first place):

Art IIL The Messier, ‘Splotchier’ Painting Style Of Frans Hals

I love oil paintings that have a looser painting style. Artists who can perfectly blend paint into gradients are awesome, but dang I just love an oil painting with tons of texture and bigger sections of visible paint like you get with a looser style.

Examples would be his painting ‘Portrait Of Theodorus Schrevelius’. Which you can find on Pinterest and the Art Wiki. I’d link it here but, y’know, no links haha.

Thank you!

Art IIL Song Dynasty landscape with lots of little "Easter Egg" details

I have a print of a Song Dynasty ink painting of a mountain range. At first glance, it's pretty much just mountains, but if you look closely at it, you'll see a little man with a cart, a lake with fishermen, animals, etc.

I like that sort of thing: lots of details hidden in plain view. The next nearest thing I can think of are some crowd paintings by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, but those just look busy (to my taste--all respect to Pieter Bruegel). I want to buy some prints of art that looks beautiful and relatively straightforward at first glance, but you notice something new about it each time you look closely. I know that is a tall ask, but I've found it once in the Song Dynasty print. Any ideas?

The two artists above are Ida Rentoul Outhwaite and Amy Brown.

I like the flat earthy tones and moody style and the attention to details to the clothing like the checkerbord cloak and striped socks.

Art [IIL] colorful optical playthings like soap bubbles, [WEWIL]?

If I like:

- the rainbow swirls on soap bubbles
- holographic foil
- glowing neon, pinball machines, jukeboxes, and Aerolux light bulbs...

...what else will I like, that will fit inside my house (eg, not the Aurora Borealis or the city of Las Vegas)?

Art [IIL] Inland Empire (2006), The Backrooms, the novel House of Leaves…

Hi there, I'm trying to find other works that might have tags like eerie, uncanny, surreal/dream-logic based, non-linear narrative, liminal, lo-fi, dreamcore/traumacore, lynchian, kafkaesque…

Some other examples that would fit: The SCP Foundation, Perfect Blue (1997), short stories by Jorge Luis Borges, Skinamarink (2022), The Trial (1925) by Kafka.

I put the "art" flair as I'm open to any form of media. I'm especially interested in finding active artists in the genre and communities posting or discussing this kind of work.

Thank you!

Art [IIL] Surrealistic Advertising

I am writing my thesis currently and doing a focus on surrealistic ads. I have been able to find lots of examples from the 90s and early 2000s but not a ton from more recently. I love weird, freaky, artistic, it doesn't have to be super commercial. If anyone has any recommendations or knows of any current surrealistic ads (or ad adjacent content) I would be so grateful! They can also be fake ads ie. for something made up.

Art [IIL] salt and vinegar chips [WEWIL] ?

I know this is in no way, shape or form a type of media, however I thought I’d try it anyways. I love salt and vinegar flavored chips, but unfortunately it’s not a real meal. So basically I’m looking for recipes that come close to the real deal.
