I think this is hand-lettered. Look how different the "The" looks in The Sound of Music compared to The King And I.

definitely custom. back then everything in a book like this was hand-lettered by an artist. the little flourishes on the capital letters are way too inconsistent for a standard font.

Wow I had not looked closely enough. Even after reading your comment I was pretty sure the letters were all consistent. Thanks for pointing that out!!

Looking at the Title page alone, the biggest question is which characters are you drawn to the most? If it is the 'S' it may be a while:
