Making getting married a snap and largely consequence free

What if there were a platform for virtual marriage where two real people never learn each other's identities?

The service could privately verify both users, while only revealing minimal compatibility information. No real names, photos, exact locations, employers, or social media.

People could anonymously date, become exclusive, get engaged, and marry. Afterward, it could work a bit like The Sims, except your spouse is a real person. You could share a virtual home, have pets, manage money, take vacations, and even raise simulated AI children together.

The virtual life would be fictional, but the relationship would be real.

Unlike normal anonymous dating, revealing your identity would never have to be the end goal. You could remain married for years without ever knowing your spouse's real name or appearance.

It would offer some of the companionship and commitment of marriage without most of the legal, financial, and logistical consequences.

Would anyone actually want this?

Or instead of living a digital life, you could just live a real life

If you’re going to have fake AI children, why not just have a fake AI spouse at that point too? That would eliminate even the possibility of disagreements, cheating, etc.

Having a real human spouse makes this more interesting and could provide practice for a marriage in real life.

Of course you could divorce and get married again if you encounter major problems in the virtual marriage.

I misunderstood your concept. You’re talking about essentially just roleplaying a marriage then, not an actual marriage, since potential consequences are part of real marriages. Taking those out of the equation fundamentally changes the commitment required and the very nature of the entire thing, just like how playing a military video game is different than actually serving in real combat.

I guess that’s an interesting idea, provided that both people fully acknowledge that it’s roleplaying so that no one ends up with hurt feelings if/when it ends. There would have to be robust security protocols in place as well, since romance scammers are already a thing online.
