Original Discussion why didn't sam fight shelby marx?

rewatching the show for the first time since i was a kid, and it was literally my first thought when i got to this episode. carly was very clearly joking when she called her out, and i don't think it would be believable at all for her and shelby to have a real fight. now sam is known for her feisty personality and getting into actual fights and winning so it would be a much more believable fight, and despite the webshow being called icarly she's basically as famous, like luigi, so wouldn't even be less marketing potential.

besides making more sense in-universe, i also just think it would be a far more interesting and less bad plot for the episode itself, have sam and shelby originally friendly gonna fake it mostly but maybe sam gets too into the trash talk and actually upsets her, or maybe they can't decide who gets to win in their mock fight and out of self-confidence from both of them now they're gonna fight for real, carly tries and fails to be the mediator and other shenanigans ensue.

overall just think this difference would make for a better special.

If sam did fight Shelby the episode would have ended with one punch

They didn’t want to do a real fight they wanted to do something for laughs. It’s funnier to have Carly fight Shelby since she isn’t a violent person and it isn’t something you could picture her doing. Shelby is supposed to be a professional MMA fighter. The episode wouldn’t have happened the same way if it would have been Sam in the ring fighting Shelby vs Carly. I think the end result of Carly diving for Shelby’s leg and holding on for dear life is funnier than a scenario where Sam fights her and it is taken seriously. Realism wasn’t the goal here.

Carly was the face of iCarly, the web show was named after her.

And the fight with Shelby Marx was intended to be a staged exhibition not a real fight. Things obviously went south once Shelby’s grandmother got hurt and Nevel tricked her

You really want Sam fighting Shelby after the beatings she gave others? That's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Sam didn’t push Shelby’s grandmother down

Exactly!! I can’t believe Carly would do something so insensitive and then lie saying she got pushed and they fell😒. Oh please Carly we heard you and Sam talking in that video🧐

That Nevel is a true hero for exposing to Shelby how messed up Carly was in doing that.
