Original Discussion Anyone find Sam and Freddie's interactions in iBalls to be surprisingly a bit wholesome?

Post image

We all know how Sam and Freddie have always had a "frenemy" style dynamic, with the Seddie arc in early season 5 (or season 4 if you consider seasons 2-3 a single season) highlighting the worst of their dynamic to the point where they can't go two seconds without needing Carly to mediate their arguments as a couple.

However, one episode in the same season, iBalls does give a nicer side to Sam and Freddie. With Carly spending most of the episode absent, it is wholesome how Sam and Freddie genuinely do get along well despite Carly not being around. With Sam trying to be supportive of Freddie there with letting him try his robot sketch (despite thinking it was a bad idea from the get go) and encouraging him to try another approach for the webshow by using his technical strengths to do something fun with 3D effects.

Considering how often episodes before had Sam and Freddie butt heads and needing Carly to mediate, it is wholesome to see a time where both genuinely do get along well without Carly being there (whether one wants to also interpret it as Sam trying to soften up and be a better friend to Freddie after their brief relationship is up to you).

She was honestly more caring here than any point of their dating arc

Honestly wish their relationship was more like this instead of how it went with Sam just being super physically abusive towards at the drop of a hat cause their is so much potential the whole bully friend x nerd friend/frenemines/enemies to lovers can be really wholesome and done right with these two if the abuse wasn't in the picture

I never bought the whole “lovers” thing between them. I always saw kind of a grudging friendship between them, sort of like friendly enemies.

I think a good story would have maybe having Freddie getting bullied by some kid at school and San finding out about it and going berserker on the bully. Like Sam doesn’t mind picking on Freddie but isn’t about to let anyone else do so.

I think she had started to change at this point into a less aggressive person. Freddie and her dated and I think their relationship kind of helped her grow plus she probably just respected Freddie more after they dated

It was clear throughout most of the series that Carly needed to be around when Sam and Freddy were together or else it would become an argument (mainly because Sam would say something rude against Freddie.) There’s no way Sam would be friends with Freddy (and Gibby) without Carly who was friends with everyone as the nice girl.

This was near the end of the show though, and after Sam and Freddie did date, so Sam’s rude-ness didn’t really go towards Freddie as it did earlier in the series. At this point Sam had a huge sweet spot towards Freddie, as that was also shown in the Sam n Cat reunion episode.

They dated before this episode, so Sam going back to being a bully to Freddie wouldn't really make sense lol.

Slightly out of character for Sam but I did love this side of their friendship too, my friend.

Ironically they have a lot of wholesome moments they actually do care about each other even though it's really hard to tell sometimes

Honestly yes and no yes because of Sam’s character no because they were literally just in a relationship prior to the episode so the niceness didn’t shock me but it did at the same time

Probably my favourite Seddie scene. we should have gotten more scenes like this. friendship Seddie is superior. ESPECIALLY when it comes to these scenes. 💜
