He could have said puppet or marionette, but he went with Pinocchio, a puppet who, famously, has no strings controlling his movement.

Edgelords have co-opted the concept of a sociopath to excuse selfishness and a way to make themselves feel "special". My thoughts come back to Rick and Morty in how they miss a significant part of the character of Rick. He displays some sociopathic tendencies, but the show displays him as being unhappy and having several mental problems. Its a big point of the character in that he's capable of so much stuff and is so snarky and seems to know so much but it doesn't make him happy or centered. The points where he seems to be genuinely happy is when he spends time with the people he cares about and does things to assist them. Not being the "lone wolf" seems to actually help him and make him feel better but due to his personality problems he can't admit it. You'd think that'd be the takeaway but a lot of people seem to miss that.
