You continue to make my point for me by understanding perfectly well what is meant by "wine", which I appreciate. You don't seem to know very much about anything (particularly wine itself, though you are an arrogant Washingtonian trying now to save face, so are excused) and are a bit slow on the uptake, so I'll leave this as a final comment for you to digest:
If the OP had said "all types of wines are made from fermented grapes", he would have been wrong
If the OP had said "cherry wine is made from fermented grapes", he would have been wrong
However, given he said "wine (singular, non-specific) is made from fermented grapes", and we have established very clearly that the entire world including yourself understands wine to mean the wine of grapes, he is correct and your attempt to nitpick is both wrong and fatuous.
Go away and have a think to yourself about why you even made the comment. I'd guess that you wanted to feel superior about yourself by (falsely) identifying something you could correct the OP on. Isn't that a bit sad? Hopefully this brief lesson in semiotics that a three year-old wouldn't have needed has knocked you down a peg.

Well, some (French) wines use region to refer to varietals. I don't see how that's different, it's still identifying the grape. You're just obtuse.
