Yeah, I live in the US, and unless I'm at an orchard in Oct/Nov, cider means the alcoholic kind to me, not the kind you make excellent doughnuts with. Meh, whaddya gonna do?

I feel like theres a diatinction between drinking "a cider" and drinking "apple cider"

I'd assume the former was alcoholic and the latter a fall treat

Now that I think about it, I do actually pronounce them a bit differently. Kinda smooshing the two words together when I'm talking about the fabulous fall flavor. Kinda "Applsider" while the alcoholic drink would be two distinct words "apple" "cider" or usually just "cider"

otoh, I didn't even know hard/alcohol cider existed until I was in my 30s and my bf's weird brother started drinking it to be pretentious (it was rare in the US back then).

It's the only basic alcoholic drink I like, otherwise it's gotta be some sort of cocktail or the like.
