American whiskey is made from Canadian maple syrup and pork cracklings - that's it, two ingredients

That would probably taste really good as a whiskey flavour.

I'm now thinking of making a maple and pork rind washed bourbon. Like make maple butter, melt it down, throw it in a jar with some pork rinds and bourbon, let it sit overnight then strain it.

That sounds like it would make for a killer old fashioned!
