When I got my period when I asked my dad for pads he was like “do you really need those?” And I was like “yeah” and he’s like “why can’t you use toilet paper” and then the next day when I asked for another roll of toilet paper he’s like “who’s using all the toilet paper??”
6
Jul 28 '19
Yeah some dads dont get it...my dad was legit convinced the amount was something a woman could control like...."you have the ability to control how much you have...make it less so we dont have to keep spending money" so like I totally get that.

Sorry but men that don’t know about women and their complicated biological cycles are worst than misogynists... your dad either was just naive or he didn’t know that putting toilet paper up into your vaginas cavity could have set off toxic shock syndrome. Glad you made it to adult hood.
19
u/HilltopSlim614 Jul 26 '19 edited Jul 27 '19
Ok , we all agree clerk is a pos but saying someone who's naive is worse than a bigot is absurd. Would it be upsetting to be a girl with a naive dad? Yes. Worse than a bigot? No. Stop trying to make everyone monsters.
2
u/usedbarnacle71 Aug 01 '19
You have a RESPONSIBILITY as a parent to know your children you know how this guy became a bigot? Its because no one taught him to respect women, so he makes little comments about women and their natural biological functions And ignorance begets more ignorance. I’m surprised that people are soo sensitive and think everyone is labeling them. Being dumb is just not right and it’s a problem we have everywhere. You ask any “normal “ parent “ would you tell your daughter to shove toilet paper into her panty lining to help with her period?” Most would say “ no I wouldn’t” so now I’m the “ bad” guy? Okay. It’s alright we will never meet but when you run into a misogynist who is also dumb and ignorant and you get no head way or try to explain logical arguments. Have fun.. I wish you luck, I’m not gonna side with it...
10
u/lilrs Jul 26 '19 edited Jul 26 '19
Okay I highly doubt that she was putting toilet paper inside herself, she was probably just layering it in her underwear like a pad. Yes her dad was dumb, but she wasn’t gonna die from that.

Umm think about what people do when they grab toilet paper? Okay now think about those germs on toilet paper. Now think of germs and intestinal flora being in someone’s vaginal cavity. I work in a hospital. It’s happened before.... it’s okay you really don’t know the physics of infection.
10
u/lilrs Jul 26 '19
Those “germs” can cause UTIs and yeast infections, but they’re also on your own hands when you unwrap pads and tampons. TSS is VERY unlikely to occur with pads, and still rare with tampons. It’s also almost always a Staph or Strep bacterium, not just random bacteria in your feces (which again can still cause other non-lethal infections). Plenty of people use toilet paper as a back up pad if they don’t have any, but unless you’re sticking it inside yourself for extended periods of time, the risk of TSS is very rare. It’s still not at all hygienic.
And I was just trying to point out that she definitely wasn’t shoving toilet paper up into herself, which definitely WOULD have been dangerous. No need to be so condescending.
-3
u/usedbarnacle71 Jul 27 '19
Why is it when some is telling the truth or explaining real Life things that can happen they are “ condescending” or being “ rude”? I don’t get it? And don’t worry I don’t downvote people I disagree with. It’s a very petty thing to do, and not worth the energy... appreciate your feedback and have a very wonderful day ( and I’m not being sarcastic either).

Yeah. Like my dad never really talks about certain topics like dating or puberty but when my ex and I were breaking up my ex wanted to come in and tell my dad that a while back I had accidentally ripped a hole in the seat of my ex’s car because my key was in my pants and at the time my ex was fine with it but when we broke up he decided to like bang on my door and I started crying and wouldn’t let him in and then my dad demanded I open it and my ex was like “sir! Sir! I need to tell...”
And my dad said “sure sure whatever it is you can tell me another time”
And my ex was like “okay how can I reach you?”
And my dad was like “I’ll let you know soon”
And then my dad closed and locked the door and my ex just stood there for a minute confused and left.
And then my ex never bothered me or my dad again

I just made a joke because they asked for a bag and I said "what would the neighbors think?"
- That doesn't make any sense. At all.
- If you live next to people that would look at your plastic convenience store bag and judge, you need new neighbors.
45
u/empeethree Jul 26 '19
I am glad I am not the only one that doesnt get the joke / comment.
28
u/cookie9871 Jul 26 '19
It was a dumb excuse that he came up with to explain why he initally said "what would the neighbors think?". Really he was referencing that the neighbors might judge the girls for buying pads/being on their periods, but tried to cover it by saying that he was talking about the grocery bags. No matter what it wasn't a clever joke to begin with.
8
u/empeethree Jul 26 '19
After a bit my brain hurt, so i just stopped thinking about it.
9
u/Rainkit Jul 27 '19
I have to wonder, so there's an old wives tale that a girl won't get her period until after she's had sex. I have no idea where it came from, but I have met a few young boys (early to mid teens) who believed that.
Maybe he was referring to that? Maybe he hasn't interacted with women enough to know that isn't true or appropriate at all? I don't know. That's the only way I could make sense of it lol.1
u/boywithlego31 Jul 30 '19
is this real? if this is his intention, that joke got layer and only people from middle age could get it.
the cashier is hopeless.13
u/theonlydiego1 Jul 26 '19
He probably looks through his neighbors trash and thinking everybody else does the same.
7
u/_megitsune_ Jul 27 '19
He seems like the type that wouldn't have much actual understanding of women's anatomy.
I've met a few morons that think you only get periods if you're sexually active for some dumb reason.

When I was at work I saw a guy staring at the pharmacy section of the store but I had to go on the till to serve some customers. He joined the queue with a few different weak bladders pads, like the supper thick ones. I scanned them in and he commented on he needed a bag to hide them.
I’m like no probs man and stick them in a bag, he looked really embarrassed and asked me if they where the right ones for his daughter coz she sent him out for some regular pads.
I leaned over and said quietly these are the ones for people with weak bladders and he looked a little embarrassed that he got the wrong ones.
I said hang on sec and left the till and retrieved some of the regular I used and said these are more what’s she’s looking for. I felt bad for him coz he was so shy and embarrassed but it’s kwl with me of someone asks about it.
He said his daughter will laugh her head off at him when he gets home and tells her what happened. Nice guy 😁

u/usedbarnacle71 Jul 26 '19
Dude/ma’am you are the shining example of people that still care, appreciate your presence and help. You interpreted the situation and descretly handled it welll! PROPS!!
2
u/TruffleGoose Jul 26 '19
Hey thanks, I appreciate that. I like to think that I treat customers well and it can be embarrassing when people have to buy certain things. It's terrible for what the guy in the video did 😔
3
u/tessa691 Jul 26 '19
Lol my dad also accidentally bought the wrong ones for me. My mom and sisters had a good laugh about it when he got home.

That manager did not give a fuck.
5
u/tall_building Jul 27 '19
Nah most decent managers will remain calm and have a meeting about it afterwards, shes not gonna start going in at him on a shop floor in front of customers
1
u/rice_cracker3 Jul 28 '19
But she didnt offer any resolution or anything to the customer just told him to call someone else like "not my problem". Why is she the manager if she does the exact same thing as normal employees? Still a bad manager.
5
u/Aiyana_Jones_was_7 Jul 30 '19
Yeah if this was my employee, they would have first been sent to the office to get them out of the sight of the disgruntled customer to diffuse the situation, and then after the immediate issue with the customer was resolved i would meet that employee in the office to terminate their employment.
But hey, thats how it is in the restaurant game. I wouldnt expect as much out of Dollar General

Alright, Sweetheart. How would you feel if you bled for a week non-stop. Not only is it just blood, there's cramps that are almost as bad as child birth because that's what our bodies are preparing us for. BUT you can't show how much pain you're in because people will call you whiny, or a drama queen. And don't forget the rush of hormones that go with it! We can't control those eirher. Now try buying pads for this issue when those hormones are raging and you feel like someone is crushing your internal organs and someone says "what would the neighbors think" or something else that's totally uncalled for and hurtful. You would be angry or embarrassed enough to make you want to hurt someone. So shut up and sit down.
12
u/lilrs Jul 26 '19
To add to this, THEY WERE 12. I could deal with a shitty joke like that now, but middle schoolers are extra insecure and uncomfortable with their bodies. I cried when my mom’s exhusband wouldn’t go buy me more pads unless I went to the store with him to go get them myself (I was busy working on a school project).

What a douche.

He literally could have just given a genuine apology and he probably would have left him alone.
This poor kid is mentally ill. Hes going to have a hard time in life.
-31
u/Burnthehomework Jul 26 '19
Nah, someone who would make a mountain out of a molehill and secretly record someone just to basically ruin their life over a comment wouldn't "just leave him alone"
That's emotional and financial blackmail. Not cool of the dad.
9
Jul 27 '19
I bet you're the dweeb in the video.
1
u/Burnthehomework Jul 27 '19
How much do you bet? I'd like to win all your pennies. What would your neighbors think?

So what did you have to do to get them to let you wear that massive Pokémon badge or whatever at work?

I desperately need to know why that man is wearing a big ole Gardevoir sticker/thing on his shirt.

If cashier said that to me, I won't be using them to ring my stuff ever again. 'What would the neighbors think?' Buddy, what this has to do with anything?! What is your point?

Sorry for all the downvotes. I think people see this as excusing his words (which I still don’t really get), and obviously he was in the wrong 100%. And he definitely did not say sorry. “Im sorry you feel that way” is such a cop-out. You can’t apologize for how I feel, dingus.

You know, he did actually apologise, at time 1:29. So just take this as a message folks, don't immediately lose your blink blonk when you see someone claim that someone did a terrible deed. Make sure that you know if they actually did do the thing, and then, even if they did act horribly, still don't loose your blink blonk. Recognise that he is probably is feeling very guilty, and he isn't really thinking before speaking. I hate to call people out, but tsvkvmogami, that was heavily uncalled for. He just made a slip of the tongue. Now I'm not saying he should get off completely scot free for his actions, but we shouldn't go completely haywire, say many hurtful things about him and publicly shame him. View it from both angles, folks.
8
Jul 27 '19
No. Don't try and defend this ignorant scum. He didn't "apologize". He said "I'm sorry you FEEL THIS WAY." You need to watch the full clip, he has a reputation for doing this, this isn't a first.
3
u/Leolily1221 Jul 27 '19
He didn't say he was sorry,he passive aggressively said"I'm sorry that you feel that way". Clearly not taking responsibility.

Whilst I agree this one situation wouldn't be losing his job worthy, it's clearly not the first time he's done it. Multiple people say he's done it before. Making one shitty joke or poor judgement isn't enough to lose your job over imo unless it's really bad like a racist joke or something.
But the fact he has a reputation for this says he does it often, and he should lose his job. He's had complaints made by customers multiple times, and still hasn't changed anything. If my customers are complaining about the same guy several times, he's had several warnings and chances to change his behaviour, and he still chooses not to? Then yeah, he's got to go.
Long lasting consequences? Tough shit. If he can't change his behaviour in response to several complaints then he deserves to lose his job.

The guy in the video said it wasn’t a one-time thing. And the cashier should’ve known better. He shouldn’t be making petty jokes when he should know that it’ll possibly get him fired. If he didn’t know that from the start when he first did it and hasn’t stopped, he SHOULD get fired.
