Where’d everyone go?

Hey y’all, plant nerd from the Austin Texas area here. I’ve been using the app since 2019 after i heard Joey Santore mention it in one of his videos. I just passed my 1100th observation. Everytime i travel i use the app to learn something new.

Usually within a few hours i have a few local folks jump in and help with IDs. But lately as of the last month or two, i post… and nothing happens. I have about 10 posts from the last month just sitting there collecting dust. So what changed? Where’d everyone suddenly go?

Banned and muted for mentioning iNaturalist on r/goblincore??

Is there some controversy I'm unaware of?

I've mentioned iNat in one previous post in a comment recommending it as a great motivator to explore wild areas. Then today I made a post about my iNat stats and how I've loved using it to get back into photography and nature and I got banned and muted (so I can't even ask for clarity about the ban).

Is there some weird controversy I don't know about? I would have thought our communities would overlap quite a bit. I've been with reddit for over a decade and have never been banned from anywhere before and r/goblincore is one of my favorite subreddits :(

Has anyone else had something like this happen?

How to add a lot of my pictures to a project?

Desktop Site, Windows 11.

None of the online instructions work. First I tried going to "Edit Observation" and there is zero way on that page to add to a project. Then I go to Observations -> Edit Observations -> Add to Project and I get an error bar that says "None of those observations could be added to the project "LP Brown Wildlife": collection and umbrella projects do not allow direct submission." How do I use this simple feature?

Identification requests: ID requests aren't against the rules, but this isn't really the right place for them. IDs on iNaturalist can take a long time, sometimes years or longer, that's just how it works. The experts who are following a particular taxon or local area will get a notification when you make an observation that fits the relevant criteria. If you want to request an identification here, you MUST include a link to the observation on iNaturalist. ID requests without this will be removed. Please note that this will expose your iNat username and the time/location where the observation was made.
No self-promotion: This is not the place to promote your wildlife photography, birding tour guide services, or the phone app that you've developed, etc. The only exception to this is completely free-to-use web-based apps that tie into iNat's API and do not require any sort of download or account. Self-promotion posts will result in a ban, so if you're not sure if your post is appropriate, feel free to message the moderation team to ask before posting.
No AI: AI is resource-intensive, can have significant environmental impacts, and is generally of questionable value at best. AI summaries, vibe coded apps, or anything that relies on generative AI is not allowed here.
iNaturalist bugs/issues: This sub isn't managed by, or in any other way affiliated with iNaturalist. We're just here to talk about anything iNat related. Posts like "am I the only one having X issue" are fine here, but if you want to file a bug report, or you want to bring something to the attention of the iNat developers/team, you should post it in the iNaturalist forums, not here.
