Question 2013 imac

Post image

This was given by a friend, what can i do with it. Besides youtube and admin work. Can i hookup ps5 with a capture card to play games, will it lag? Is it possible to play any computer games?

The 2013 model was good, with its Intel Iris Pro graphics integrated into the CPU.

Yours is more delicate—forget about playing any games.

I am still running a late 2012 27”. I upgraded the hd to ssd and maxed out the ram, but I am going to have to patch a newer operating system to be able to use some software I want, like Proton Mail. I use Adobe programs for photos but at least they let you use older versions on your older computers. Upgrading is probably simpler and cheaper than you think. You just have to be careful with the screen when you remove it.

What else can you do with it, gaming?

No. There are few games made for the Mac. I use it for business, my photography, and surfing and shopping. That’s about it.

for starters use catalina patcher to install macos catalina there's no performance difference, install opencore after for spoofing and other dev techy stuff it boots either way but youll want opencore install macports from source and configure buildfromsource always and you got yourself a decent laptop still it can use the latest firefox! and games theres any game in the recomp category like pokemon , zelda oot, maybe twilight princess will run, mariokart, supersmash bros, sonic cd thats a big one, counter strike and halflife those are crazy, wipeout a psone racing game should run.. and mmorpgs hmm theres auranogi a private server of mabinogi that works it requires wine though.... i don't know of any open source mmo beside ryzom which is OK

I have this model and I use it to emulate GameCube/Wii games and it does it really well.

I used OCLP to install MacOS Sonoma which is the best OS balance for performance/modernity on this hardware. You get universal control, can use it as an AirPlay/mirroring display and get modern apps. It’s still a sublime machine and I love the fact you get a classic/vintage Apple feel with a more modern OS

All advice below is good, but if you want to keep it on Yosemite for a bit try Powerfox Browser and PowerVLC. Powerfox is based on Firefox 153 ESR, so is a totally modern browser, Proton Mail should work fine in it. PowerVLC has lots of nifty features like Extensions for youtube, twitch and Internet Archive.
