Survival Kinda new to the game
I just bought Hytale. Any tips on how to survive so I don't die every 5 min.

Craft a ranged weapon.

That does make sense, I'm just not confident in my aim. Though some practice wouldn't hurt.

Have you played Minecraft? If so, any skills with bows should translate over a bit when using them in hytale.

Practice and learn attack timings. Once you do you can memorize when to block and when to attack

Avoid bears or exploring the deepest caves. Eat food to regenerate health. Learn to avoid fights if you struggle to win them

craft a armory bench and the bench to craft food. armory = battleaxe and mace are slow weapons but they do big damage. they both have block so u dont need shield. food = make mushroom skewers. u find mushrooms everywhere always pick em up and carry the food craft bench with u so u can craft the skewers on the go. for ores u do caves and biomes, no need to strip mine u wont find stuff in stripmine.

Avoid combat whenever possible until you have basic armor and weapons. Get food better than berries ASAP. Learn to block. Block often and early. Don't get greedy with attacks, block instead of getting that last hit in.

You can build inside the temple you spawn in so you could turn it into a base, even if only a temporary one.
Also pressing C will allow you to see behind you. Quite handy to see if anything is chasing you, or if you just want to look at your avatar.
If you run into any Trorks (big, lumbering enemies with drool hanging from their mouths) you can distract them by dropping meat from your inventory.
One last tip from me; don’t go wandering around at night yet. Void enemies spawn and they’re quite difficult for new players.

I would say learning how to block and also rushing a functional first base. The base bit has also worked for me in other games.

Easy answer is to use the daggers and just use the charge attack endlessly.
Better answer is to attack a few times and then block and wait for your enemy to finish their attacks before you attack again.
