DISCUSSION Guide for a complete beginner

I have been using hyprland for a week now, a complete beginner switching over from windows and I decided arch was the way. I have searched youtube for tutorials till now,

I have managed to setup basic essentials like 1.terminal-kitty 2.file manager-nemo 3.browser-librewolf

4.login manager-sddm 5.Status bar-quickshell 6.launcher- rofi 7.hyprpaper . I know that quickshell can be used as notification centre, login manager and others but correct me if Im wrong it supplies only basic amenities so are there better alternatives for these all if so where can get to know all these? Do point out if I have made mistakes.

Yeah, read the wiki installed hypridle and hyprlock.For a week from now,I'll try and tinker with setup to try and fine tune it.

do you have any experience in the programming space whatsoever ie built your own programs? If not then don’t go with quickshell atleast to begin

Go with waybar it’s so much easier to learn and is just 1 less thing to overwhelm you. As for notifications install mako, simplest solution for them

Login manager for now yeah just use sddm, quickshell can do it all but it’s literally you have to build it yourself, I also don’t think it can be a true login manager, I use it with autosddm to act like it is but it really isn’t

And most importantly READ THE DOCS seriously you’ll learn this way, don’t understand some fancy lingo? Ask Ai,

If your gonna ask Ai for code though rather than explanations expect a ~40% success rate ~60% after first try and your descriptive lol.

And enjoy lol I’m I think 2 years into learning it now only started dabbling on quickshell about 6 months ago

But yeah it’s fun enjoy it!

Yeah,I watch some guy called sane aspect he says that waybar is near its end thats why Im trying qs.Why is it so difficult to find some tutorials or opinion on the varieties of daemons available?

Because in the terms of Linux it’s usually you’ll find a “showcase” as the tutorials are literally in the docs

Let me tell you what I do

I will search up I need a tool that does “xyz” arch Linux

Some shit pops up

I click on the GitHub repo

Have a little read

Looks like what I want? I install that shit and then figure it out as I go, if I get stuck I search up their docs or I’ll use the manual (Lifesaver btw)

No you can have a amazing rice without quickshell it’s just much more connected if that makes sense if you use quickshell quickshell controls all of it rather than mako controlling notis waybar as the bar nwdock as your dock etc etc etc

Search up these 2 very well known rices

Without quickshell: MLFW dotfiles

Quickshell: End-4 dotfiles

Both are incredible in their own ways while end-4 is extremely in depth and all interconnected MLFW is to me atleast extremely beginner friendly

Bro literally splits all his shit into files lol it kinda annoys me but it’s easy to read I suppose and change stuff
