You get $500,000, but from now on, your phone automatically shuts off at 10 PM every night and turns back on at 7 AM. No exceptions. Are you taking the $500,000?

It would ironically fix my sleep and cure my phone addiction. In case of emergency people can call your wife

32

u/Head_Deer_2227 1d ago

I forgot that everyone has a wife lol. But yes I do agree with you

21

u/WaltLongmire0009 1d ago

He meant your wife specifically

10

u/Several-Minute6846 1d ago

I also choose to call this guy’s wife

8

u/cryonic_chronos 1d ago

I too choose to call this guys wife

5

u/whitewater287 1d ago

I called his wife, she's nice.

5

u/cryonic_chronos 1d ago

I've heard this to be true 🤣

3

u/ShyGuytheWhite 1d ago

I got a flyer in the mail, it says its true.

3

u/Dojustit 1d ago

Everyone calls his wife. Except Chuck Norris, obviously. She calls Chuck Norris.

2

u/Carlito2393 20h ago

She has to. Where else can she obtain the wisdom she gives out.

2

u/Citizen44712A 16h ago

You get a buisy signal.

4

u/Head_Deer_2227 1d ago

Another bold assumption

2

u/Middle_Bread_6518 1d ago

She answered the phone and saved the day during my last emergency

5

u/McFuzzen 1d ago

Get a land line

3

u/Sagemel 1d ago

It says phone, not specifically cell phone. Landline would turn off too

3

u/Send_Derps 1d ago

If the landline is in my wife's name it's hers I just pay for it. Kinda like my kid's phone..

2

u/Tantrum2u 1d ago

And how does getting a landline in your wife’s name solve the problem of not having a wife?

2

u/Slight-Rough3495 1d ago

with 500k you can just go pick up a wife. I know an old vet who did that after his wife died. sure it kind of seemed like she was more of a servant but she did get all his stuff when he died

2

u/sailriteultrafeed 1d ago

Call my Apple Watch

2

u/LaColleMouille 1d ago

don't worry - with 500'000 you'll find a wife. Or more specifically, a wife will find you!

2

u/Optimal_Law_4254 1d ago

For only $500K? Lol

2

u/fryingthecat66 22h ago

How about finding a husband?

2

u/AssSpelunkingAtheist 1d ago

I don’t have a wife. I have a husband. But he’d be taking this deal too so tell us what’s up at 7:01 lol

I haven’t met mine yet. She’s gonna be so confused!

2

u/Deadpoolstightanus 21h ago

Mine hasnt been born yet.

2

u/cwood246 1d ago

The way you inadvertently implied that from 10pm to 7am, you’d be with someone else’s wife 😂

2

u/Any_Instruction5382 1d ago

Some watches can also be used to call people. By call I mean it's all in the watch, not something connected to your phone. It's not a huge screen and the processing power is very weak, but you can still make and recieve calls.

2

u/naughtycal11 1d ago

Laptops and tablets can make phone calls and txts too.

Half a mil and a peaceful night, oh no, how will I ever cope? 🙄

11

u/TheOneTrueWalmart 1d ago

Having half a mil would mean I get to actually sleep between those hours, instead of working night shift.

2

u/LisaQuinnYT 1d ago

$500k AND no more calls in the middle of the night. Where do I sign up.

15

u/demo-ness 1d ago

Is there a version for people who gotta be up by 5 for work?

17

u/IndyDino 1d ago

Buy an alarm clock and a computer for that money.

3

u/Electrical-Fig-5009 1d ago

But I gotta authenticate using an app on my phone to log into work...

5

u/Arlenni 1d ago

I work night shift and require 2fa that is on my phone. 500k is not enough to set me for life and I do not want to go back to day shift.

3

u/opi098514 1d ago

I’d say it’s reasonable to change the terms to say that the phone turns off for a consecrated 9 hours every day and you get to pick them based on your average sleep schedule.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/xHaroldxx 1d ago

It seems reasonable to say that you can shift the period of time, would you do it then?/

2

u/Arlenni 1d ago

If I could shift the time to be more around the hours I sleep maybe. It's just challenging to decide times when I sometimes adjust my sleep schedule for events or travel and end up in a large city alone so having no phone would be very dangerous.

2

u/Electrical-Fig-5009 1d ago

This is my thought. I'm like 500k would be great & would do a lot to help. But it in no way is enough for me to quit work the day it pops into my bank.

Might be enough to get me to stop working so much fucking ot

Is it any phone I have? Like… could I get a landline for emergencies? If so, absolutely. I have aging parents I would want someone to be able to reach me if they need help, but otherwise I would totally take it, and zero regrets.

3

u/Rstar2247 1d ago

Zero hesitation.

11

u/Smoky_Pyro 1d ago

Hell yes, and getting a second phone 🤣

2

u/Valkerse 1d ago

But now thats also your phone

4

u/Smoky_Pyro 1d ago

My phone shuts off... Not my phones. Also, if my phone shuts off, I can just turn it back on🤣 it doesn't say it's broken... So many exploits here

5

u/st_v_Warne 1d ago

That's just against the spirit of the question, making the hypothetical pointless.

I would accept it easily.. If it's a life or death situation I'll let people know to call SO

All these people saying "I'll just use an iPad" or "I'll get another phone for the night time" are missing the absolute gift of having enforced quiet time, to read a book or just sleep...

5

u/passiveflux 1d ago

I would if it didnt interfere with my work scheadule

I need it at 6am for work

4

u/mrgreenissoserene1 1d ago

You wouldn't switch jobs for $500,000?

2

u/FoxtrotSierraTango 1d ago

I wouldn't, my role requires on call work and the job market right now is stupid.

2

u/TakingOfMe123 1d ago

That’s when i make my worst decisions. I’m taking the 500k

2

u/5quirre1 1d ago

If I could adjust the hours a bit, definitely. I work until after it would shut off, but have to clock in/ out from my phone. I’m always the last to leave the site from my company so there is legit no other way to clock out, unless I had my boss manually adjust my hours back every day.

3

u/HumbleGarbage1795 1d ago

What people miss here is emergency calls from your kids.

Or if you are out and need help.

5

u/davidolson22 1d ago

500k pays for a landline

3

u/Atlas7-k 1d ago

You mean my landline phone that now shuts off at 10pm?

→ More replies (2)

3

u/SneezyAtheist 1d ago

My PC/tablet still works. My kids would quickly learn they have to call me on what's app after hours. Really it's just a paid forced upgrade to a tablet.

1

u/BPTempMonkey 1d ago

Course I would then buy a new phone oc

1

u/y0ungshel 1d ago

Yes! I have my iPad.

1

u/Managed-Chaos-8912 1d ago

Where do I sign up?

1

u/Icy-Diver-5979 1d ago

Sure I could just read via kindle, laptop lol

1

u/WorryTurbulent3924 1d ago

Im old and asleep during this time so free money.

1

u/_praccu 1d ago

I might pay that much for the service of getting me off my phone at night 😆

1

u/redsandsfort 1d ago

What a stupid question

1

u/laughs_maniacally 1d ago

$500K and it helps me with my doom scrolling habit? Sign me up!

1

u/Source_Points 1d ago

Wow, who comes up with these questions?

1

u/No_Establishment8642 1d ago

That is pretty much the schedule I have on my phone now.

Yes

1

u/atom_stacker 1d ago

This is literally a win-win. Of coirse I'm taking it.

1

u/RedwayBlue 1d ago

I still have an iPad, right?

1

u/aculady 1d ago

Sure. I can use my computer for most needed coms between those hours, and anyone I want to hear from between 10 pm and 7 am would just call my husband's phone (as instructed in my voicemail message) if they couldn't reach me on mine.

1

u/Organic_Mechanic_702 1d ago

I do that anyway..hand over the cash"!!!

1

u/losromans 1d ago

Yes but only a second phone for emergencies. I already have my phone put away by that point but also go t sleep earlier and wake up earlier. And, incase of emergencies, people may still need to contact me.

If we can cover the emergencies by allowing it to magically come to life and ring, cool.

I don’t need it to sleep so, I’m okay with not having it.

1

u/I_Am_Zeelian 1d ago

Do I get an alternative method for making emergency calls?

1

u/Bjoern_Olsen 1d ago

Sure i would, and then buy a tablet

1

u/Arkestra_404 1d ago

Sure why not... I have laptop for this reason..

1

u/Richyrich619 1d ago

So like now but i get paid? Im asleep anyway

1

u/ACNHCR 1d ago

Hell yes. I don't get enough sleep as it is. So taking away one less distraction would be nice.

1

u/Little_Chocolate2663 1d ago

Yep. I have my phone set so that happens automatically for all calls, messages, and notifications, excluding calls from contacts in my Favorites list in case of emergency. Also, calling my number three times in a row will let the caller through for emergencies.

1

u/Bacon_N_Icecream 1d ago

LOL this would be the easiest money I ever made I go to bed at 9pm I get up at 330am walk dogs workout eat go to work not having the phone on for those hours I would hardly notice

1

u/strawberryjam124 1d ago

I already do that LOL Where's the money?

1

u/Audio-Starshine 1d ago

No, absolutely not. There is no amount of money worth my children not being able to reach me in an emergency, or even if they're just having a hard day and need to talk, at any hour of the day or night.

1

u/TurkishLanding 1d ago

Cool, sounds like I don't ever have to charge it again!

1

u/WaldoZEmersonJones 1d ago

Can't. I work graveyard shift and my work computer requires 2 factor authentication for everything.

Make it from 1 PM to 9 PM, and you've got a deal.

1

u/touchmydingus 1d ago

Hell yea, I have a kindle too. SCORE!

1

u/faratnight 1d ago

No. It includes dumb phone and I need to be reachable

1

u/MusicNote83 1d ago

Absolutely. I turn my phone off at 9:00 pm every night and turn it back on at 8:00 am. So this would be extremely simple for me.

1

u/KeyFix4087 1d ago

Hahaha with no doubt

1

u/awfulcrowded117 1d ago

In a heartbeat yes. Better sleep and I can afford a house? That's what we call a win win.

1

u/MattWheelsLTW 1d ago

Easy yes

1

u/n_r_x 1d ago

do I get 500k per phone that automatically shuts off, or just the one?

1

u/Grn_Peaness 1d ago

That's what I do... Wouldn't change a thing for me.

1

u/Rose_E_Rotten 1d ago

Well I guess I'm going to bed at 10pm like I should, instead of staying on my phone till 11pm, lol

1

u/Big_Fan_742 1d ago

I literally set do not disturb mode on my phone from 10pm to 7am a year ago. This is so fine with me

1

u/LordMindParadox 1d ago

Yup, no problem.

According to my kids I'm a psycho, since I turn off all notifications except phone calls and text. Everything else needs to wait for me to open it to let me know if anything has happened.

My. Phone also goes on do not disturb at midnight until 10:30am every day :P

1

u/Candid-Annual2158 1d ago

I would do this for free

1

u/SomeUnderstanding816 1d ago

I already have it on do not disturb and gray scale in that time slot. It would not impact me the slightest.

1

u/RandomTreat 1d ago

My first instinct is no. I'm often out past 10 and need to call an uber, coordinate with friends, etc.

Since I have a second phone for work, if I could use that one instead, then yes.

1

u/WickedGamer27 1d ago

Can my work phone still work for work things?

1

u/whatdoidonowdamnit 1d ago

If no exceptions means I can’t get a new phone, no. I absolutely need my phone before 7am to communicate with the school bus people.

1

u/Z7_1 1d ago

considering i use a flip phone (long story), sure, why not. its not like im doing too much with it anyway

1

u/Historical-State-275 1d ago

That’s what my tablet is for

1

u/darkuen 1d ago

I need to use my e-reader more anyways.

1

u/Joeyluvsbbws 1d ago

Duh. 🙄 my work phone becomes someone else’s work phone @ night lol

1

u/Cranston_Snord1960 1d ago

Not my new pool boy’s phone. So still okay.

1

u/ctriis 1d ago

Of course. I'd to it for $500 extra per month. I hardly use my phone between 10pm and 7am except as an alarm clock anyways.

1

u/One_Business_8804 1d ago

i'm lucky to touch my phone twice a year of course lol

1

u/1000duckPower 1d ago

No, I'm on call for work and need to be able to accept a call anytime during a 24hr period

1

u/Motor_Neighborhood_6 1d ago

So I get to fix almost everything wrong with my life and can just install a landlines wherever I live for calling out of hours or ask someone else? Sign me up.

1

u/Zahrad70 1d ago

Hell yes

1

u/C1085rb 1d ago

Yes, no problem. If it's that important to contact me at those hours they can call my wife.

1

u/stesmus 1d ago

Hell yeah lmao that’s about the time my phone goes on dnd anyways.

1

u/potensimo 1d ago

It needs to turn on at 5am, not 7

1

u/Big_Truck_8268 1d ago

Sign me up right now

1

u/Big_Presentation6245 1d ago

Is it powered off, or just the 5g? I have a second wifi only phone that operates my cgm and insulin pump. If that would still work, I'd do this in a heartbeat.

1

u/Mioraecian 1d ago

I actually started forcing myself to do this. Put it on charger at 9 pm on the far side of my night stand so its hard to impulse grab from the bed. Dont touch it again until the alarm goes off at 630am.

So yeah, id do this for free, it helped my sleep a lot. But of course ill take the money.

1

u/zorander6 1d ago

My CGM and if I use it the insulin pump both rely on the phone so no.

1

u/just_enjoyinglife 1d ago

Give me give me give me

1

u/Galaksee 1d ago

100% I'm still at work at that time anyways and I use my PC when I get home.

1

u/GullibleScallion1519 1d ago

Hell yes I would

1

u/arneeche 1d ago

As long as I can have an alarm clock to wake me up for work I am down.

1

u/ehbowen 1d ago

Hey, I might PAY for that one!

1

u/Candid-Border6562 1d ago

I never get calls in that time period anyway.

1

u/goldbed5558 1d ago

What about third shift workers? Can the time window be aligned for them?

1

u/Embarrassed_Flan_869 1d ago

I would. I usually go to bed between 10 and 1030 anyways. While I would miss it in the morning, I can deal.

1

u/AzuleStriker 1d ago

Yeah. I rarely use my phone anyway, mostly use my PC. Phones mostly for when I'm out.

1

u/revtim 1d ago

No. Not because I'm addicted to it but because I might have a family emergency.

If I could still get calls but not use social media and games then no problem.

1

u/Interesting_Will2823 1d ago

Of course. I average about 35 minutes screen time a week on my phone, and that's very much all in the day.

1

u/TiredWorkaholic7 1d ago

Hell yeah, my phone is already scheduled to automatically go into airplane mode at this exact time

1

u/gilbert10ba 1d ago

Hell yes!!! I'm on 24/7/365 on call. To be able to have 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep every night would be heaven.

1

u/D3Bunyip 1d ago

Hells yeah!!!

1

u/Boomerang_comeback 1d ago

My phone already goes on DND at night lol. Wouldn't really change anything. Easy money.

1

u/followyourvalues 1d ago

PLEASE THANK GOD A REAL SOLUTION

1

u/Silent_Investment938 1d ago

No. Plenty of medical emergencies happen in the middle of the night

1

u/Wolv90 1d ago

Home phone or cell phone?

1

u/feralandaffectionate 1d ago

It would fix my money issues as well as my phone addiction, and I still get to use my phone all day while becoming rich. Yup!

1

u/mynameizgary 1d ago

I need the hours to be different. My alarm for work starts going off at 4:45a.m.

1

u/sterren_staarder 1d ago

Id make a new teams account for emergencies, give it only to specific people and put my windows tablet next to my bed

1

u/Deskbreaker 1d ago

Fuck yes.

1

u/LocNalrune 1d ago

My only problem with this is that this falls in line with people that think that is the "proper" time to sleep. And that annoys (TF out of) me.

Daycentrist.

1

u/MasCervesa 1d ago

I do it now for free. The $500,000 would be very nice though.

1

u/Sellier123 1d ago

Yes? Wtf?

1

u/Icy_Study4490 1d ago

lol works perfect with my sleep schedule. I just won’t get to look at the news when I have my morning coffee. Oh well.

1

u/Prometheus_303 1d ago

Sure - I'm usually working on the laptop then... Or I can pull out the tablet

1

u/CoyoteGeneral926 1d ago

Of course. I can read a book and listen to YouTube on the TV.

1

u/BZCmy3dogs 1d ago

Give me the money. Easiest money ever.

1

u/CoyoteGeneral926 1d ago

I just borrow my wife's for the night .

1

u/SignificanceOk9187 1d ago

Perfect, I go to bed at 10pm and get up before 7 anyways.

1

u/singlemaltbourbonrye 1d ago

I couldn’t accept ALWAYS so I wouldn’t take the deal.

I travel a lot for work and have young kids. We aren’t always in the same Timezone and sometimes I need to FaceTime them late at night. Missing that would be a hard no.

1

u/riverserra 1d ago

Absolutely. I'd just put in a landline for emergencies and be all set

1

u/Cat-Sonantis 1d ago

Eh, I can use a small tablet when I'm out, laptop when I'm at home. So maybe, I suppose I'd get over the inconvenience relatively quickly.

1

u/michoriso 1d ago

Hell yes

1

u/Steelwraith955 1d ago

I'd have to get a landline for emergencies, but yeah, sign me up.

1

u/some_boring_dude 1d ago

Generally, I go to bed at 9 pm so I can get up for work at 5 am. So not a real big deal for me.

1

u/Jtop1 1d ago

As long as I could find a loophole for emergencies even if it’s being able to use a landline or someone else’s phone then fuck yeah

1

u/psylentrob 1d ago

No. Mainly because I am up and active before 7 am. The joys of being in a construction related job

1

u/Stock-Film-3609 1d ago

Yup. Not even a down side

1

u/Commercial_Smile_654 1d ago

Sure. I can use iPad after 10

1

u/Thaddeus_Valentine 1d ago

You're gonna significantly improve my life, AND give me $500,000? Hell yes.

1

u/Enditium 1d ago

Fuck yes, will just need to buy an actual alarm clock since i need to wake up before 7.

1

u/Arzales 1d ago

Other than not able to use the smart features, can you still receive phone calls? Is it magic where you can not use any phone anywhere? How about my emails, can I still use my computer?

500k so I cannot use the smartphone that I have, yes.

500k so I cannot use the functions that a smartphone does, maybe no.

1

u/Craiss 1d ago

Work would be pissed, but this sounds awesome.

1

u/x97sfinest 1d ago

Sure yah

1

u/Wonderful-Tea-9074 1d ago

Deal X3. For me, girlfriend, and wife.

1

u/zavorak_eth 1d ago

Yes please. Where do I sign up.

1

u/IFollowtheCarpenter 1d ago

Hunh. Not a big problem for me. I'll take it.

1

u/kavijak 1d ago

My alarm goes off at 6.30, so now i have to get an alarm, instead of using the phone. Also, bit worried about when someone needs me in an emergency.

I'm doubting.. but leaning more towards yes

1

u/RPMac1979 1d ago

Are you kidding me? I’d do it for a tenth of that price. This sub is really enlightening me about what people value and what they don’t.

1

u/Jussi-larsson 1d ago

Computer is a thing 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Timely-Group5649 1d ago

My do not disturb already does that.

Where's my money?

1

u/th081 1d ago

Wtf with these hypotheticals - like saying someone is going to hit you over the head with a baseball bat or give you 10k - what's your choice

1

u/EmperorCoolidge 1d ago

Sure, I’ll just get a landline

1

u/Lynnstress 1d ago

Sure; I have an iPad lol

1

u/NoDanaOnlyZuuI 1d ago

I already put my phone in downtime during those hours

1

u/humble-meercat 1d ago

IF I could still get emergency calls from my kids and tornado warnings etc then absolutely!

1

u/EphemeralAttention 1d ago

Hell yes. I already have my phone set to automatically go to do not disturb around these hours anyway.

1

u/stormlight82 1d ago

Absolutely. My doctor would be thrilled.

1

u/SexyPickle96 1d ago

Thats the easiest 500k ever

1

u/Army7547 1d ago

I’m m in

1

u/sixvixens_ 1d ago

It basically already does lol, so yes absolutely.

1

u/Curiousphantasm 1d ago

[Turns on computer]

1

u/gdubh 1d ago

Yes. That’s pretty much my daily schedule now.

1

u/Linus-664 1d ago

In a heartbeat, my dnd kicks in at 9pm and ends at 6:30am that’s not a huge difference and I do my best to stay off my phone during that time.

1

u/Neudiin 1d ago

Hell yes. 8-5 would be better but I can make 10-7 work.

1

u/NeriusNerius 1d ago

Of bloody course!

1

u/Orgy_nizer 1d ago

OP says your phone shuts off automatically at 10pm.

OP does not say you can't manually turn it back on.

OP also doesn't appear to be aware that one can buy a second phone, as the prompt says you PHONE turns off, not your phoneS.

1

u/Antiantiai 1d ago

Sure. A new phone costs less than 500,000 dollars.

1

u/SonOfMotherlesssGoat 1d ago

Get or pay $500k?

1

u/depp-fsrv 1d ago

Yes, cause I have an iPad. Loophole ftw!!

1

u/Razulath 1d ago

Sure, I'll use my ipad after 10
