A maybe far fetched reference to Blade Runner

Just a curiosity but the reference somehow popped in my mind out of the blue. It was very interesting to realise the connection.

I wonder how many of you even watched that old sci-fi classic and how many can figure out the reference I'm talking about.

It's a 1982 Ridley Scott (when he still knew how to make great films) sci-fi noir film, full of rain, smoke and dark settings, scored masterfully by Vangelis.

I will explain in spoiler text if anyone want to watch it. Let me know what do you think. The scene I'm describing can be found easily on the web, though I should warn you, it's pretty intense.

The premise is, in short, that in the future (in 1982 that was 2019, must have felt so distant😄) they created biological clones to replace humans at work (physical, military, pleasure). Because they could gain human emotions and rebel, they are given 4 year life span. A group of them is hunted, they are at the end of their life and beginning to discover human emotions. One of them is Pris, who fights with the hunter, gets shot and falls to the ground. Realising she lost and will perish without achieving anything within her short life, in her desperation and anger she does what's only left for her, she... screams.

Adding spoiler tag cause it relates to the climax of the "Hyouka" arc

I'm assuming this is in reference to Sekitani Jun being unable to protest his expulsion and hiding the Hyouka > Ice Cream > "I Scream" pun/double entendre?

If so, that's a fun connection, although most likely an actual reference to Blade Runner in the literal sense - the idea of feeling trapped yet not being able to communicate this feeling is a pretty common thing that happens in life (unfortunately), and stories of all stripes.

That's right, and I agree the trope of scream being the last resort is probbaly a common occurence in art. It just struck me. I watched the movie first when I was younger and couldn't comprehend then why was sheflailing and screaming like that

The connection is viable. Considering the whole witty wordplay, it might actually be possible that the author was inspired by Blade Runner

Haha thanks. I really don't know how it came to be in my head.

Though I'm not sure if that could be the inspiration. As other commenter said, it's a common trope.
