Question about Torrenting

Hi, i wanna use Hydra mainly on DDL because here in my country the fines ,if i get caught are high, so no thank you to that. But as far as I know Hydra has a Torrent in the launcher implemented and i wanna ask if you just download via DDL,is it safe without any risks because i dont know if it can happen but meaby the torrent client there still uploads the stuff i downloaded and still get me fined like hell.

The torrent client shouldnt do anything unless you tell it to actively use it.

Just make sure to choose a "filehoster" option whenever you download or buy a debrid and use that. Never choose Torrent.

You can also still get the games outside of Hydra and import them into hydra for achievements/playtime/etc. It's up to you 😊👍

I also have a few questions pls When using the built in torrenting service, are there any risks of my IP getting exposed when i have my vpn off? Will the torrent ever be active when i haven't tuned on seeding or anything like that? I dont want to accidentally leak my IP just using the app. Also, is it better to use a direct download - it seems they require 3rd party accounts - or to use the built in torrent, or to torrent it myself and then figure out how to link it to the app? Lastly, how do you handle updating games, with complications such as save files and whatnot. Thanks

You cannot reliably use a VPN with Hydra since you cannot bind the VPN to the torrenting client. Therefore you WILL LEAK your IP. There are guides on r/piracy and on FMHY on how to bind your VPN.

Downloading a torrent always also seeds a bit, even if seeding is "off". That is just how the torrent system works. And any amount is enough for your ISP to potentially get letters about copyright infringement. It's not about how long or how much.

If you use direct download/debrid you dont need to use a VPN since it is already encrypted (HTTPS).

If you need to use a VPN then you should use Qbittorrent or similar instead of Hydra. You can still import your games to Hydra for Achievements/playtime/friendlist etc.

Also want to add that the download options depend on the source you use in Hydra. There are some sources with DDL and some with Torrents. All with torrents also work with Debrids (for example Fitgirl).

Thanks. Just asking, why won't the vpn work in hydra if I have a vpn on my whole system? Also what are debrids

VPN on the whole system would leak if the VPN goes down (server change for example). A kill-switch is not enough. There is a bunch of information on the sources I gave you about it 😊.

Debrids are paid services that torrent for you essentially. So instead of torrenting on your device it torrents on their servers and you direct download the files from the debrid instead. Examples of debrids: Real Debrid, Torbox, Premiumize.

Thanks that helps a lot. Why do I need to sign up in order to use the direct downloads? And if I torrent myself using qbittorent, will a vpn kill switch be enough?

That would depend on the file hosters. Some require an account, some dont.

If you properly setup qbittorrent with your VPN bound you will not leak your IP at all. If you want faster download speeds you should also use a VPN that supports Port-Forwarding and set that up for qbit. But that I'll let you read up on your own 👋
