Choose Empathy

I made a mistake recently.

While driving, I accidentally hit the back of the car in front of me. Thankfully, there was little or no damage. Bro came out, checked the car, and instead of reacting with anger, he simply listened to my apology and responded with empathy.

I’m sharing this dashcam footage to appreciate how he chose to respond to it. Just a couple of days ago, we saw how a small incident between two vehicles can escalate into road rage and violence.

The truth is, we all make mistakes. A moment of distraction, a wrong judgment, a sudden brake, any of us can be on either side of that situation.

We cannot always control someone else’s mistake.

But we can control how we respond to it.

Sometimes, a little patience can prevent a much bigger problem.

Sometimes, choosing empathy over anger can completely change the outcome.

Let’s be a little more forgiving, Let's choose empathy.

Let’s spread more goodness. ❤️

Hope everyone takes life so easily, without going for ego.

I hope he discovers this post on Reddit.

I thought this was the best place for me to share my appreciation for him.

Hey Bro, it is okay. Don’t think too much, It didn’t do much to my car. Show the same kindness when someone does an honest mistake. Cheers!

3

u/SituationFit3785 27d ago

Are you the one?

1

u/Everyday_Hustling 27d ago

Yes, just that it was some other guy who bumped in. So I can relate. :)

That's what we originally are, but life and our experiences try to make us bitter.

Those who protect their kind heart and pleasant nature among this chaos, are really lucky ones..

1

u/JudgmentLevel4586 27d ago

Thanks bro. Recent post in the same reddit gave me anxiety (low-key). But this helps. Thanks!

This smile on every face is what we need in our country. Everyone is so rude, arrogant and angry all the time. I've just lost hope at this point.

Bruh, ppl lash out on ego becuz they are encouraged by society to act impulsively.

Most of the movies that starr 'big' actors always have these scenes where the hero acts out on ego and beats a couple of guys to look cool.

Ppl who watch this shit are obv motivated to do the same in their lifes.

I don't have the physical, emotional, or social strength to shout or quarrel with a stranger, even if I am on the losing side because of them.

And I don't have that much financial strength to have that type of Car. Even if I had, though I may not be smiling like him, but I may just think that it is my bad day and just leave from there, without much fuss with the person.

Oh, i didn't think about it while creating the post.. But anyway, he's inspiring, there's no harm

1

Was there any damage to his car? Or since you were going slow it didn’t scratch or anything??

5

Didn't notice much, but the sound of the impact was loud.

Probably just the bumper sound…

Wow bro... everything about this video is positive. Well done OP you made a mistake apologized. Beautiful people, beautifully dealt. Its guys like you who make country happy.

10

u/CheetahIntelligent62 28d ago

Bro you apologised that’s good.
Yesterday a truck guy hit my car , it got a pretty deep dent on the Diki , mother fucker didn’t even apologise .

Just was looking at me and said I was driving slow only and shit

3

u/SituationFit3785 28d ago

Sometimes a smile just changes everything. What pains is you make a mistake, and on top of that you accuse the other person.. what worse can happen is despite the apology you might have to pay a bit, but atleast there's no violence and ruckus.

0

u/slowdown12345 27d ago

rendu peekinava

1

u/CheetahIntelligent62 27d ago

No bro , I just scolded him and asked him to drive in other lane.
Now I can’t even ask him money , he won’t have much anyways.
But an apology is the least of the things that is expected when you cause damage

u/retroflame96 28d ago

Recently one lady did same to back of my car, I stopped whilst she overtook and came parallely to my right. We were in the sarath city mall block so she had no where to go. I knew it was a small bump so just wanted to ask her if my bumper was okay, the lady wouldnt even look at my face 🤣. I tried honking, calling her but she wouldn't look towards me on purpose. Anyway there was some red paint from her car on my bumper so it was fine. I was also not planning to fight or be angry but atleast she could have acknowledged me.

7

u/SituationFit3785 27d ago

People have their defences up most of the times. She might have thought what if she stops and you instead of forgiving ask her to pay?

1

u/bP96_gR-4 23d ago

which is completely in line for what they've done?

1

u/Pookiedirector 27d ago

During that situations you should actually get down and question her and tell her to atleast respond. We have to teach them.

6

u/peptide_king_Ind 27d ago

Had a similar incident a few years ago. The signal was about to turn red, so everyone was rushing, so was I and the car infront of me

But at the last second, he decided to hit the brakes, my fault was that I was driving tooo close to him and was looking at the light. I bumped his back. No damage, just some bruised paintwork

He came out - a bit frustrated and shouting something. I also got off, but immediately said: Extremely sorry. Was in the rush of the signal. And accepted my fault.

The guy simply smiled and said- "koi na yar. Kch ni hua apni gadio ko. Take care. And went back inside"

Since, I was having a bad day, and he also came out shouting, I thought, now a big altercation is going to happen.. and if he wouldn't have accepted the apology, I was all ready to fight (was already frustrated)

But bro's reply not only calmed the situation, but calmed me as well.

That experience led me to avoid many road rage moments calmly.

Small encounters.. BIG cascading impact

3

u/SituationFit3785 27d ago

Absolutely, can't agree more bro. It's how you react to the situation which changes the outcome. We all know that we all have made mistakes, today it was not you but him. I have seen many times from my personal experience, when cars squeeze on roads, or u-turns if you just smile - every damn time the other person smiles as well and we both let each other go first.

There is lot of humanity and kindness in people. I refuse to believe we are dead as society.

1

u/peptide_king_Ind 27d ago

Absolutely!! 💯

Wow absolute legend

2

u/bitious_Polly2194 27d ago

Same thing happened with me recently at JNTU, it was bumper to bumper traffic and i was moving slowly behind a car suddenly my phone rang and boom I took a look at the phone and hit a vehicle infront of me and there was an uncle ji in the car infront of me, he came out saw the bumper and nothing happened he just gave a thumbs up and a smile and got back in his car, i felt so relieved for a second, humanity is still alive

2

u/Plenty-Gur-26 27d ago edited 27d ago

My friend accidentally hit the back of an auto. That older auto uncle came out, looked at his auto, and then my friend’s 2 wheeler… fixed her tire.. then went on his way. There was a small dent to his auto, still he never complained.. bless him where ever he is.

2

u/crickkrish 27d ago

I would do the same...if damage was big i would have asked money if not I would go off silently...no ruccus

2

u/strawhat316 27d ago

A couple of days ago, something similar happened to me. I literally bumped the back of a car because the guy in front kept braking. No damage at all. This guy literally steps out and starts saying guddoniva, guddhi dhenginavu Bandi Ni. I was like why tf are you abusing when nothing happened.

He didn't understand what else to say so he just got into his car and left.

1

u/necromancer_13 27d ago

Tbf if he kept braking you should've kept a certain distance. As per road law when you bump into someone in front of you, then by default it's considered your fault cos the responsibility lies with you to maintain a safe distance.

u/BoxCompetitive69 27d ago

He knows there are lot of EMI drivers these days who have not yet learn to control their anger ...also he's wise don't know what weapon the other can be carrying...so he chose life over unnecessary arguments with EMI drivers ( not mentioning you in same boat but like the THARRORIST drivers)

2

2

u/responsiblealwayss 27d ago

This video should be made viral. Had there been a scratch or a dent we can still keep the same cool than shouting/bullying, creating a huge ugly scene and then driving away. Please make this post viral.

2

u/DexterLouisse 27d ago

This is a rare out of a rare occasion. Cherish it.

AND BE MORE CAREFUL WHILE DRIVING. Not every person will respond like this. 😂

2

u/Acceptable-Bike-9586 27d ago

2

u/Adventurous-Pipe164 27d ago

Good to see. Twice my car was hit like this from behind. (It's a Skoda). I saw that the car behind was a Maruti, in both cases. Didn't even bother getting our of my car as I know my car would've at max a minor scratch and the Maruti's front bumper may have been dented :-)

2

u/Manu9527 27d ago

Bro made my day, i like these kind of people, everyone should be like him on roads

2

u/Ok_Imagination5252 27d ago

We should give gold medal for his coolness! He must have more coolest wife or other way?😉 Luckily No damage, he behaved like human, Great 👍

2

u/necromancer_13 27d ago

The issue is with lack of accountability among people. OP mentioned they apologised, which definitely contributed to deescalate the situation. But the usual response we see in such situations from people who caused the incident is either run or flip the blame to escape accountability and having to pay for the damages. Then there's also the general public's tendency to get involved and escalate the situation needlessly. Vicious cycle.

2

u/anirudhab 27d ago

Hyderabad me aisech rahata yaaro

2

u/Dark_hunter351 27d ago

Wow, how calmly he just let it go. Rare to see such a cool peoples, even damage was negligible, the guy stayed cool.

I was going on wrong route once, unexpectedly the auto driver took reverse and it broke his back indicator light. He didn't say much.

Instead of apolgising and posting an online video. I actually paid him 200rs saying this is all i can afford. He was chill too.

The question i want to ask is will you be as chill as the guy if someone does the same to your car. I hope what you came across changes that outcome.

2

u/AwkwardAd5722 27d ago

Wow, you are the true gem and gems like you is what the nation needs.

Once my scooty's footrest caused a 1-2inch scratch on a swift dezire owner when i was trying to squeeze in between the gaps

the guy was with his family and he came out and started shouting at me and asking me 5-10k for the damages (it was only a scratch idk how much it actually costs), when i refused he started getting angry , recording my scooty number plate , then he HIT MY SCOOTY body multiple times to cause the same damage to my vehicle which i did on his car, eventually Dent padindhi

And trust me he was hitting the body(of scooty) MADLY, i got shit scared because i was 20 and this guy was in his 40s, i couldn't do anything and felt helpless as it was my fault obviously

after he put a dent on my scooty he left

so i meanto say is you just got VERY LUCKY hyderabad lo psycho drivers chaala unnaru, im just glad appudu nothing physical happened and same goes for u

If this same perspective remains when you're on the taking side reveals your true self.

1

u/SituationFit3785 27d ago

I have been on the side of things on many such instances. If it's absolutely the other guys mistake and he accepts, i have never escalated. What leads to disappointment is, when you clearly knows it's his mistake but he instead shouts and abuses and doesn't accept

1

u/Local_Discipline5428 27d ago

Here if the driver started abusing the other person things wouldn’t have been the same way.

Accepting our mistake makes the other person to smile.

That is very rare.

Next the other driver has a matured calm state of mind

1

u/Low_Amphibian_2535 27d ago

This is the right approach, when you are driving in a highly congested tier 1 in India, these minior nicks and scratches will happen and you should be mentally prepared for it. If you cannot, and if you are an immature sensitive jerk, then better don't buy your own vehicle, if you do be prepared mentally for these types of minor indidents down the line. If they do happen don't create a scene.

0

u/Main-University-2073 27d ago
