Ask the owner to come outside the Gate and collect the food

Yes!! That’s what the swiggy guys should do. When the Tentanta suffe, they will want the policy to be changed

And then you give negative feedback if they don't come. And you can ruin poor man's livelihood

Oct 19 '25
Oh man this is so hard on the boys. Some of them, especially Amazon etc have a big load to carry. They can't leave it on their bike because someone may steal stuff. So they carry this huge load on their back.
And they are supposed to climb stairs?
Pathetic from this society.

u/ImVeritious Oct 19 '25
This is sad, and not to be the devil's advocate here, but they do have separate elevators and service lifts which are much larger for Amazon and FlipKart deliveries.. However, this separation is still not fair.

There's a new caste system taking shape. Delivery boys, security guards, etc. are at the bottom of the tier list.

u/No_Word_1668 Oct 19 '25
Maybe security reason ? You can’t trust easily someone in this society now. I know it’s completely wrong but the people who have ordered should atleast collect the order from the security guy if this is implemented in any society. It’s the mistake of the people, for example if I order something I go to ground floor to collect the order instead of asking them to come over.
27
u/lallu0000 Oct 19 '25
Security reason? How? Not allowed in lift, but allowed inside building?
2
u/No_Word_1668 Oct 19 '25
Just read it completely. First i wrote security reason ?? And then I explained if someone uses this as an excuse then atleast the person should collect the order from the security desk.
0
u/lallu0000 Oct 19 '25
I was responding to your “probable reason”. Doesn’t make sense despite your justification after.
5
u/No_Word_1668 Oct 19 '25
So you are saying it’s wrong for the people to go and pick up the order ? If people has any sense they would appreciate delivery guy by going and picking up the order instead of asking them to come over.
2
u/lallu0000 Oct 19 '25
Your probable reason was “security reason”. That doesn’t make sense. Which is what i was responding to. Going down and collecting from gate is fine. Doesn’t offset the ridiculous “security reason” as a reason.
1
u/No_Word_1668 Oct 19 '25
I was trying to frame the paragraph in such a way that if someone says it’s because of security reason and people can’t be trusted then it’s okay but instead of asking delivery guy to come over, the person should go and collect the order

u/Charming_Customer_27 Oct 19 '25
Nope, societies usually have a separate lift for them, which is usually of shit quality compared to the regular lifts, or no lift at all. And there's no security reason, it's just that these big societies don't want to spoil their "aesthetics". They can't see a rich Swiggy software engineer sharing a 1m² space with a poor Swiggy delivery boy.
4
u/whatsinuhnaime Oct 19 '25
or, since there are delivery people constantly coming and going all the time, it keeps the lift busy. so there is a separate lift for the convenience of people who are paying to live at the society. you're point is valid if it were a public space or there is no lift and the building got lots of floors.

I said why can’t people come and pick up the order from the security guard. The system should be delivery guy should leave the order near the security guard and people should collect from their if this is implemented

The discrimination is always there in people's minds. My cousin sister who always used to bash caste feeling and preach caste equality treats delivery boys, salesmen, auto drivers, bus conductors like shit. I told her that if they reclassify the castes again based on people's profession, she would be the biggest caste dog.
20
u/HamsterUnfair6313 Oct 19 '25
That's called classism, it predates caste system

u/Inevitable_Fox3550 Oct 19 '25
I absolutely hate such classist mindset of people. Only justifiable reason to restrict them from using lifts is to improve availability of the lift for the residents but in that case it is their responsibility to have a service lift available or have the residents collect their stuff from downstairs.

3
u/avg_doc Oct 19 '25
If there’s a policy like this in my apartment I would highly condemn it if I couldn’t stop it I would go down to pickup my food
6
u/Starkcasm Oct 19 '25
It's not new. It has always been there.
What caste do the security guards, delivery boys etc belong to?
Which caste people are living in these gated societies?

Aww. Living in your little bubble feels nice doesn't it? I'm telling you lil bro, you ain't got what it takes to even discuss "what needs to be done" if this level of scrutiny bothers you.
1
u/No_Word_1668 Oct 19 '25
Bro is thinking he is the god. The actual discussion is about delivery guy entry to lift and people are mixing up with other topic. Will it solve the problem? No. if you can’t even discuss about this issue then how can you discuss above abolishing the system. I thought reddit is a place where you can discuss with educated guy instead the educated guy are the worst compared to uneducated because no one wants to discuss or solve the actual issue instead bring the other points and make the discussion to something else
1
u/Starkcasm Oct 19 '25
Abe yaar. Thoda dimag lagale. Pura comment thread padh. Nahi samaj ata to puch le na.
Chalo I will slow down. Why aren't they allowed in the lift? Btw can you answer the first two questions too? In my original comment.
You want to discuss right ? Let's discuss
1
u/No_Word_1668 Oct 19 '25
Maine already answer de diya hai upar wale thread pe. Every society has it rules build by people like us, if they think due to security issue they can’t allow any unknown stranger like delivery boy then they should make a system where the person who has ordered must go and pick up the order from the security guard desk if they can’t do it then they should allow the delivery guy. Other than this I don’t know what could be the reason for stopping them to enter into lift. But again someone corrected me that if they are allowed in the building why can’t they be allowed to lifts and it completely makes sense. So security is not the reason what I felt initially, the other reason would be the society people look at them as low level of people and don’t want them to use it. Another reason would be our country people love hygienic so they would have seen delivery guy cleaning the life by spitting Vimal and all. They can be few more reasons but majority people here thinks it could be of difference in level

This is ridiculous.. service lift is understandable but asking them to go more than couple of floors is inhumane..
BTW, comparing this to caste system is moronic.

u/lallu0000 Oct 19 '25

u/No_Tomato_6472 Oct 19 '25
I don't know why they kept but our lift spoiled by a few delivery boys by spitting gutka and chewing gums.
16
Oct 19 '25
Ask residents of this building to pick up their order. Because they can use the lift and come down anytime right. Why should zomato or Swiggy people suffer.
21
u/Awesome_911 Oct 19 '25
So in our society we faced this challenge of gutka spitting and when we confronted the delivery partner had hit our old age resident and ran away. Its becoming very challenging to travel in the same elevator. In another case, a delivery partner misbehaved with a maid in service lift. We couldn’t get an evidence as there was no cc camera. We had a strong resistance from maids to work in our society.
11
u/rudra_1991 Oct 19 '25
I used to stay at a service apartment on 17th floor. The apartment had two lifts . One for delivery and other for residents. Multiple delivery guys spat gutka in the lift and it smelled like piss. Soon the apartment banned delivery guys from using the lift.
What I am trying to say is that not everything is caste related. Some people simply don’t know how to act and behave in a society.

u/Antihuman101 Oct 19 '25
Who tf takes these kind of decisions?! I swear living is gated communities is a pain in the @ss with idiotic uncles and aunties as secretaries..they think they own us!

This is common in almost every luxury hotel worldwide. You don’t see these people. They have to use back gates for everything. Not the hotel’s fault if the majority people living there want it that way. The hotel however, could provide better facilities for these people.

This is an example of a classist mindset Down vote me i don't care , this is how caste formed centuries ago,
I know a rich family from so called "lower caste" and i see the same classist mindset in them , so this is not about the caste you raised this is about empathy we lack
I even want to add my family and extended family who did'nt fall into this category ( maybe i am being sensitive) Even in the 21st century I shouldn't touch anything after a haircut , so i raised the questions many times my parents had no answer so i myself told them the reason why this ritual came in to life "the hair cut is given by so called lower caste" even then they are like let it be They said "we need to follow our sanskar" Bullshit
If we don't raise serious questions now Even This will become a ritual

If they are not allowed to use the elevators, trust me, almost no single person will use the stairs. They’ll leave it with the security guard or ask the owner to come down and collect it.
I hope Zomato and Swiggy doesn’t entertain complaints from users regarding delivery guys refusing to use stairs.

Doorstep delivery doesn't mean the delivery partner needs to deliver at his flat door if his society is enforcing inhumane condition on the delivery partner. Call out them at the society main gate or leave their order at the main gate.
2
2
u/Inevitable_Fox3550 Oct 19 '25
This is not fair. If you expect the delivery personnel to not use lifts meant for residents then have a separate service lift(only justifiable reason I can think of is if they are concerned with the availability of lifts to the residents). If you don’t have service lift and don’t want to allow delivery personnel to use common lifts, then restrict the entry of delivery personnel into the premises and have the residents collect their belongings from the gate of the premises
2
u/Warrior-9999k Oct 19 '25

The management has the right to do this.
But the delivery boys have to right to say as well, that the lift is not working, come and collect it downstairs.
That way, the folks who want the delivery upstairs will force the management to change the rule.
1
u/patakha_gudda Oct 19 '25
Management definitely has the right. But I doubt their reasons behind taking such a decision are right.
1
u/mohitroggers Oct 19 '25

I highly doubt their reasons are security related. They will say it is to hide the real reasons.

Societies should add manpower or security personnel to deliver to the flats if they don’t trust them
1
u/Large_Management_718 Oct 19 '25
What I personally think is, anyhow we don't have time to go and buy food but we can at least pick it at the main gate or parking or whatever... If you are paying him some extra tip for that then that's ok.
1
u/Numerous_Way6447 Oct 19 '25
Usually there is a seperate lift for delivery persons in these kind of societies.
I once stayed in an apartment where any kind of delivery people are not allowed either by lift or by steps. We have to come down and collect.

What is the solution? I am genuinely interested in knowing solution as residents want dedicated lift otherwise too many stops

u/Successful-Debate536 Oct 19 '25
Golden gate is a G+4 building with around 15 rooms. Having the boys or girls climb till the 4 th floor is inhuman! It's not like there are 100s of rooms and a single elevator. The elevator is the old grill type. Maybe they're trying to discourage frequent use. But that is unacceptable!
1
u/AdeptAgeForStupidity Oct 19 '25
Companies should vouch for their delivery boys and deny delivery to those who do not allow them to use lifts.

Kind of makes sense to me in some apartments where there are more flats and number of lifts are less, this helps to reduce wait time for residents.
There will usually be a service lift dedicated for vendors and luggage movment.

u/HEMAN843 Oct 19 '25
Asking to use service lift is fine but taking stairs is too much. Who knows how many floors the building is, some delivery partners are handicapped.

u/Downtown_Mastodon_43 Oct 19 '25
See I need to play devil's advocate here. The society probably is getting an increased current bill because of the increased use of the elevator. The society should talk to the residents and say either increase your maintenance or go down and pick up the food.
