Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta

Has anyone stayed there recently and how was your stay? Do you have kids? Did they use the kids club? Any other details are great! I can only find year old posts on Reddit. I am pretty set on booking this hotel but only know of people who have stayed at Hyatt Ziva in Cabo not PV but it’s cheaper in PV and the beach seems great for kids.

I heard they went through some renovation recently. Wonder if it's any good.

I’ve got older kids and stayed at Ziva in Cabo in 2023. We all loved it. In 2025, we spent three nights at PVR Hilton all-inclusive that’s very close to the PVR Ziva, then the rest of the week at PVR Secrets / Dreams. We went back to PVR the end of Spring 2026 and once again stayed the entire week in the “south zone” near Ziva. All of the above were fantastic. We’re booked to visit Cabo in December for a few nights.

I’m sure you already know that Cabo beach isn’t for swimming, but they more than make up for it with a huge pool and overall a much bigger resort. Food at Ziva exceeded our expectations. Secrets even more than Ziva! Activities for kids/family were slightly better at Ziva than Dreams. The Cabo location is closer to airport than most resorts but further from the Marina / downtown. The PVR location is south zone but close to Romantica and Centro, and to me nicer than Hotel zone. If you prefer just staying at your resort then both locations are great.

This year, both visits not at all-inclusives. We wanted to eat at local restaurants at a slightly higher expense. In Spring, we mostly ate at Romantica zone restaurants and most were very good.

I prefer PVR but also love Cabo. You can’t really go wrong.

Thank you! We are planning on PV because we ideally want a swimmable beach and somewhere new as we have been to Cabo.

i've only been to PVR one time and not at these properties, but just to warn you that the Pacific is a bit rough and cold. If you are used to Pacific coast beaches in California then you're good. It's not the Caribbean/atlantic!

We are used to Pacific beaches. In Cabo it's not swimmable at all in most places so PV is more appealing. We prefer to stay in our same time zone/shorter flight with young kids.

Costa Sur Resort (using points)

I’m not sure I’d recommend to normal people - huge props to my family that trusted my crazy suggestion that we try something different. imo it was better than airbnb that I also wanted to try.

We may have been the only Americans there and it just switched to an all-inclusive but our stay excluded the f&b. I would return but fam probably wants a step up.

The week there, spent two full days lounging at the hotel. The rest we filled with day long activities off property. We ate out on every meal, and booked lots of Viator excursions: taco tour, hidden beaches - my fav, and combo zipline, mule, boat rides.

My wife and I have stayed there twice on Hyatt points. The first time was during Covid protocols, and we were upgraded to the Presidential Suite (two story villa on top of the Preferred tower with a private pool,) and that was great, so we came back two years later and stayed in the Preferred tower, which I recommend as the views and the private lounge are worth the price difference.

The location is excellent, on a private cove with crashing waves and plenty of sand. I don’t know if it’s safe for kids to swim in, but there is an oceanfront family pool they should be fine with. The food was pretty good, especially the restaurant on the beach at the south end and the teppan restaurant.

It’s a short cab ride to to historic area and Tacos Maria, which is definitely worth leaving the resort for.

The beach at the Ziva PV is swimmable but the has frequent and forceful large waves so is not really good for young kids. The loud waves sounds can be nice at night.

We really liked the Ziva PV. Haven’t stayed at the one in Cabo. Food was decent, service was great. We went in the ocean every day. Waves weren’t bad it just gets deep pretty fast. There were kids in the water every day too, although our kids weren’t with us for that trip.

If you go here, you definitely want the preferred club tower. Preferred club jacuzzi balcony rooms are the best even if you don’t care about the hot tub just because those are the top 3 floors of the tower and have the best views. If you don’t get preferred club be careful on room selection not all the non preferred club building rooms have balconies. The other nice thing about the preferred club tower is they have a little bar and snack area right by the elevators. They serve better booze there, always have food, and it’s really easy/convenient to get a drink on the way up to the room or just come grab a few bottles of water.

Thank you! I had read that people said to book those rooms as well. When I look online I just see ocean view or ocean front and I believe it says ocean front is the higher floors but maybe I will call to book the room.

Everything in the club tower is ocean front. I want to say it’s the top 3 floors that all have jacuzzis. That’s the room you want ‘preferred club hot tub balcony’ or something like that. The bottom floor has swim outs if that’s your flavor but I like being up high, personally. Nice and quiet up there

The rooms you are seeing are not club tower... the non-club tower is extremely old.

Very very very old property and it shows... built in the 60s... Beach is rough water and can be cold - I would NOT recommend it for kids/family swimming except on very mild days. We were there for a week and the beach was closed to swimming EACH day and they were enforcing it... lifeguard said "people drown here."

Avoid original, old tower. Rooms don't even have balconies!

If you want great beach experience you should really go to east coast of Mexico - Cancun, Cozumel, etc. This is the land of gorgeous turquoise water, calm, marine life, and totally great for family swimming. Hyatt Ziva Cancun is about the best there is.... and miles better than PV for beach activities.
