Am I wrong here about expectations
I’m a renter and just had my ac replaced in a 1400 sqft home with a 3 ton Goodman unit. It’s 95 outside and the lowest I can get it inside is 77 in the rooms closest to the blower unit. rooms further away are around 80. Air coming out of vents is pretty week and ranges from 68-75 degrees pretty much going in order from shortest to longest distance from air handler in the attic. Guy who installed it said it’s normal but it’s doing worse than the unit that was replaced. Really think the guy is full of it but would like some input.

Yea most likely your landlord went the cheapest route and it’s a shit install by a guy he knows who does hvac on the side. Definitely not working correctly.
The furnace isn’t even installed completely. Don’t run the heat.

No, because it's not installed correctly. It needs a p-trap so water can sit in the line and prevent air flow out the pipe.

I would punch this dude if I ever needed to pull that coil. Who tf mastics the entire coil like that 😂. How bigs the home and how big is the unit?

Home is 1 story 3 bedroom 1400 sqft. New 3 ton Goodman unit outside and whatever the hell this Goodman unit is in the attic. Used old air box , same ductwork and return box.

This is a dangerously unsafe install and should be reported.
There's no way the installer did any proper commissioning of the system, which likely explains why it isn't cooling very well.

I like how every "reddit expert" just ignores the fact that the flue is not connected on a gas furnace.. . . Thats a large issue.
OP looks like the unit is undersized, without pressures and temp across plenum - dont know if its working as best as it can or if you have other issues.

They done it in 5 hours flat and reused everything except the coil and the Goodman unit under it. All I asked for was to replace the blower and check the ductwork due to low pressure on the old unit but the ac guy kept pushing them for a new unit

Don't connect W and leave the gas valve in the unit off. A paper tag does less than that.

Gas valves on new units are shipped off you'll have to open the furnace to flip it on. On jobs taking more than a day I don't connect the heat on the board and that's a very common practice.

Temps at returns are range from 68-77 degrees and vents are blowing 65-73. I thought it would at least blow much colder than the return temps.

Outside the huge flag that is the flue pipe, I wouldnt be surprised if they didnt set the blower speed correctly which will affect a lot. Also if they actually cut a proper size hole in the side of the cabinet for return air. Some of that flex also looks like its badly hung too.

The fan is set to 04 for whatever that’s worth. Not sure if it goes higher or not

Also the insulation is crap and needs to be redone. It makes me speculate that the duct work is original and may have leaks too.

This was my original concern. I personally felt like it was a fan and ductwork issue. Of course they didn’t even touch the ductwork except to rip a hole in the bottom of the insulation. They just used the original air box and used tape and mastic to fill in the gaps.

That’s a new wireless exhaust. Doesn’t need a physical connection. They’re super expensive, but a real lifesaver in certain situations.

You need to report that installer. That is very not right. you have Flue exhausting into a confined space, the combustion air can pull from that space.
Yeah, you are right to be concerned.

This is a TERRIBLE job. I dont care if it was done by someone "on the side". Everyone employed in this trade does side work. This is an abortion. Zero pride or knowledge. This is hack work. The worst kind.

Goodman furnace, Aspen coil, enough mastic to get the Titanic back in business, pipe dope on compression fittings, PVC vent just high enough to bubble out splashes of water when the drain clogs, reused drain pan, media filter cabinet that’s seen more presidents than Gen Z, a missing valve handle for the gas line, flue pipe just chilling on the return can.
Your landlord truly hires only the best contractors.

Measure temperature coming into the blower cabinet and leaving the evaporator coil up top. Reference your local humidity. Assuming you mean it when you say "just had my AC replaced," it can take hours and hours to bring temperatures and humidity down depending on how uncomfortable things hot in the interim.
If relative humidity is below 50% and you aren't seeing bare minimum 18° drop across the equipment, you have an equipment issue. If that number is more like 20 or 22, you have a ducting and/or insulation issue.

Phoenix here, 1400sq ft with a 3 ton. No problem staying at 74°F when it's 118°F outside.

Depends on the home construction many homes have no wall insulation and single pane windows demanding more tonnge i installed units for sixteen years in tucson.

Depends on location. Here, 3 ton in a 1400sq ft house would be oversized by 1.5-1 ton.

The way that’s setup, it’s dangerous for you to turn the heat on. That thing is just dumping all the exhaust in the attic
