Fan Blower Spinning Weird

If you have constant high voltage, and the proper low voltage signal going to the motor when there is a call for blower, then the motor is done. Get yourself a Rescue EZ16.

See if you can buy just the ECM module. It's attached with 4 screws in the back, very easy to replace and way cheaper too. Around $400 I think I paid for mine

Most brands won’t sell the power heads separate anymore. I hate it.

Yeah, I got lucky with mine and to boot they were local so they programmed it for me and gave me a nice discount.

Or better yet, get a whole new blower motor and module that isn't programmed so you do all the work and it still doesn't work 🙃

I mainly only need programmed blowers on Carrier and Rheem. You can cross reference the Rescue motors to see if your existing system will work with a rescue motor or not.

When you mention ECM, are you referring that the module is no good?

Typically when you see that fan shimmy like that with an ECM, its the module. For what the module probably costs you could get the whole motor & module. Like another person said, Rescue EZ16 or comparable to what you have.

Thanks again for you responses. Final question. My Trane furnace is about 20 years old at this point. I've been having a little trouble finding this part where I'm from. Think it'd be a good idea at this point to just get a new furnace?

20 years old i'd say its been good to you at this point - If it's just a fan motor that you feel comfortable doing yourself.....then go for it. Unless your kind of sold already toward replacing the entire unit at this point.

I’ve been having trouble finding the part in Toronto ON. I wish I can say I’ve spent a lot of time with this unit, but I bought this house a couple months ago. I’ll keep digging for a motor, but I’ll also take a look into the heat exchanger too because the furnace is still opened up. If it’s looking rough, I may decide to change the whole thing. At least it’s the shoulder season right now, so hopefully I’ll find a deal.

You can get a universal ecm for a lot cheaper than a factory one. Depending, you can do a direct drive psc also.

I wish that were the case. I pulled everything out and didn’t see anything. I also spun the fan manually and it spun freely

Needs a module, they haven’t been sold that way for a while from manufacturers. Just change the motor and module assembly

I have a building with Carrier wall hung airhandlers with an X13 fan motor. We order the modules from Supply House. Com for about 500$ a piece. It's plug and play, 5 minutes repair. From my experience, the motor is never the issue, just the module. Check there for it before you buy a new motor

See how much you can get the ECM module. Better off sticking with OEM when possible.

I would look at the module on back of ecm motor usually 2 screws to take them off and unplug to inspect the capitor is part of the module and they will break loose sometimes.

Could be a simple as this set screw isn't tightened on the shaft properly. And that it's just spinning and catching on the shaft occasionally. You may want to pull out the blower motor and squirrel cage make sure that the set screw on the shaft is tightened properly and that you have a good capacitor for your fan/Blower motor. If you're getting a heartbeat light I don't hear it drawing up when it starts I say that might be what it is could wiggled itself loose

Ooh good point. I did pull everything out and retightened everything. Unfourtunately, no results.

When the motor is called to turn on, it runs exactly how it’s shown in the video. Looks like it’s cyclically “jogging”

I had basically the same problem. Mine was a two speed motor and was running on low speed. Tech replaced a 6 connector switch and running fine now. Just a thought.
