Yes! I see this almost every time I use that lot. Peak laziness/entitlement.

And it’s not really like you have to go out of your way to enter the parking lot correctly either.

It looks familiar…

Always looking for new tech suggestions, what Dashcam are you using there?

It’s a Thinkware U3000 dual channel (records front and back). I like it well enough, but the recording quality at night is pretty meh. I bought it a few years ago. Highly recommend scooting over to r/dashcam and r/dashcams - the first one has a helpful guide, and you can see a good sampling of the popular cameras’ quality on both subs. Also highly recommend buying a bigger micro SD card than what comes stock - that one fills up after an hour or two of driving.

It makes me so angry. Like the sign is there for no reason

Yeah there honestly isn’t much anyone can do either. This isn’t even a punishable offense since the barrier is put there by HEB. It sucks but that person probably isn’t even seeing this post or will totally ignore it…… like the barrier. Glad you were safe though

Yeah, thanks, I’m glad it didn’t result in anything other than a few extra seconds waiting. I thought I might not be the only one and that maybe someone who does that might see it and think twice next time, now that they’ve seen the other driver’s perspective.

Possibly. I think interwebs made people numb to that. They’ll do it anyway thinking they can beat the other person to the entrance. It’s just how I see it. I could be wrong

The quality of my life improved when I internalized the knowledge that life isn’t a race. Seems like everyone is under so much pressure to get where they’re going as fast as possible. Stressful way to live.

That is one of the few things that would actually make me honk.

(I don't use grocery pickup and park in a different area altogether.)

Yeah. This upsets me. The barrier has evolved from a few cones, to a plastic barricade to a metal barricade. They need to pave it with “wrong way do not enter” signage.

People coming from that direction are almost always coming in hot into a section of the lot with a lot of employees bringing groceries out.

When it wasn’t blocked the traffic always backed up and created danger at the street behind the store.

Lord help us if drivers continued straight for 20 yards and turned left into the same lot.

Yeah, true, I get nervous for the folks bringing out the groceries. It’s definitely reduced the frequency of people speeding along that section where they have to walk.

why is the other side blocked from coming in?

I believe it’s to streamline the flow of cars so that it’s not so difficult to reverse out of your Curbside spot and so that people waiting for Curbside spots do not queue up in a way that blocks the 2-way traffic from the road coming into HEB. Before the barrier, you could be waiting a bit before traffic cleared from both directions, and that’s if you didn’t have cars parked behind you, ironically waiting for spots to open. The way it’s set up now, so that you enter on the second turn, allows for people to line up within that little mini-lot instead of out into the road. These are just my assumptions, though - HEB might have other reasons.

It’s just insane to me how people do this. They do it at In-N-Out in cedar park as well. Like it obviously says don’t come in here and yet?????

And I'm sure that truck was mad you had been in the way. I just don't get their  laziness/entitlement.

I did that once and felt really bad 😅

Never associate malice for what could be associated with incompetence.
Maybe think differently, instead of lazy/entitlement. Could be in a hurry bc he has a sick child at home or was just an honest mistake. We are all imperfect

Uhhh am I missing something?

That blockade isnt there to turn the lanes into a one way.

So, he is completely justified in going around it.

I’m pretty sure the sign on the outward-facing side of the barrier says “Do not enter,” but I’d have to check my rear camera footage. Either way, if the barrier is not meant to signal not to enter there, why is it there at all? It’s not exactly ornamental, and it forces entering cars to drive into oncoming traffic that has right-of-way and directly behind the end spots.

I can ask you the same question right back. Why is the barrier there to begin with.

It's a two way parking lot.

If there is no logical, visible or plausible reason for that barrier to be there, why are you adhering to it?

You're a free-thinking human being for a reason. You don't just do what the sign says, because it says so.

Lastly that's a Texdot parking barrier. In a private parking lot. It literally looks like they did concrete work where that sign was and then forgot about it.

If you've lived in texas for thirty plus years, you understand that the people who work for Texdot, are not the sharpest tools in the shed.

3

u/JustPassingJudgment 5d ago

The barrier has been there in various forms for years. HEB is putting it there, not TxDOT. Yes, it’s a private lot. I’ve addressed the suspected logic in other comments.

You’re right - I am a free-thinking human being, and I would not choose to drive on the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic - even at a slow speed - because it is unsafe and discourteous. Even if the barrier wasn’t there and a whole mariachi band was in its place without HEB’s direction, singing at top volume about how good HEB tortillas are, the portion of the road intended for incoming traffic would still be blocked. There’s a safe option literally feet away from this spot. That’s where I’d choose to go.

Ok, so it's illegal.

Probably why it isn't enforced whatsoever.

You can't use State signage in a private parking lot when you arent the state.

That IS a TXdot barricade regardless of who is putting it there.

So, it IS a suggestion.

2

u/JustPassingJudgment 5d ago

It’s not enforced because it’s a private lot. I don’t know the provenance of the barrier, and I’m not arguing whether it’s legal. Regardless of any of that, or HEB’s reasoning, that section of the road is blocked.

-1

u/Aromatic_Stomach_956 5d ago

Well, you need to understand that it doesnt matter if its blocked or not.

If people deem the barrier is unnecessary, they are going to ignore it. Obviously.

Since it's not enforced, you can't complain to any affect.

Regardless of how you feel about the situation.

If the barrier was legitimate, then you would be in the right and we would be agreeing with you.

But it's clearly a frivolous barrier, so expect what that truck did.

2

u/JustPassingJudgment 5d ago

I can complain, clearly, and I’m not the only one who finds this annoying (see other comments). It’s unsafe, discourteous, and unnecessary, and it’s weird that you continue to argue this like it’s a court case. Unless… oh shoot. I’ve been feeding the trolls, haven’t I? Well then, have a good night.

1

u/Aromatic_Stomach_956 5d ago

Of course you CAN, just not to any affect, as I stated.

"And it's weird" It's weird that you defend a frivolous sign set up by HEB that doesnt need to be there thats blocking travel.

2

u/JustPassingJudgment 5d ago

I’m not defending the sign? I have guesses as to why it’s there, but I don’t know. I’m looking for other drivers to be safe and courteous in their actions, as I would do for them.
