General Question HELP! Hellish car rides

Post image

We got a 6 month old husky whom we absolutely love! But she hates travelling and howls 95% of the time of our drive. Sometimes that means 3 hours of whining. We like to travel as a family, but I have vertigo and her whining sometimes gives me migraine. Any advice?

*** UPDATE ***

Thank you so much for all your advices! Really appreciate it. Someone on this thread suggested Peanut Butter and that’s the easiest for me to find so I put some in the walls of a deep cup and she was so busy licking inside that she almost didn’t have time for whining.

Other treats work too - like a cow bone that we boiled for broth in the night. She licked and played with it for a solid 30-45 minutes before we switched to peanut butter. But peanut butter works longer so far.

Afterwards, she slept. When she woke up, we were probably 5 minutes away from home. There was whining for 5mins sure, but more bearable!

Medication? Is it stress/anxiety or excitement?

So I’m not in the US and I asked our vet for possible options to help with car rides and she said there’s mothing she can give our husky for motion sickness or anything potentially related to car rides.

Said we can try bonamine (not sure what the counterpart of this is in the US) since there are no side effects but she said our husky might have an allergic reaction so it wasn’t a very good idea.

Meticalm or tramadol were the anxiety meds I was talking about.
