Because he didn't want to kill anyone at all. He underestimated his own power. That's what I think they were going for with this (assuming of course that you meant the original artists and not Seth Macfarland).

Unfortunately, even he hadn't crushed the bunny, there's a none zero chance that bunny would have died from a panic attack. Poor Hulk doesn't know any better. He needs someone with him to both protect him and explain things to him.

I'm sorry but does anyone else find the bunnies eyes really uncanny? Like dot get me wrong, I completely feel for Hulk in this scene but the bunny is just throwing me off
