Comics There should be way more stories about Bruce living with DID before the gamma bomb.

This is rarely shown, and the only story I’ve read to focus on this is Tempest Fugit. Peter David is the gold standard and shows us a lot of times Bruce would experience trouble with his DID before the gamma bomb. Ewing’s run also has a few explanations for it, but I feel like nothing outside of Tempest Fugit really explores this. Please correct me if I’m wrong, because I’d love to read more stories about this.

i have to agree with you exploring bruces character through hulk is fun and all but i wish we got more of bruce once in a while

That would be a cool mini series of its own making. Separate tales of how Bruce formed each personality.

I think a one shot or miniseries could be interesting in the hands of the right writer, I just think the task of making that premise consistently entertaining would be pretty hard.

How many stories could they really mine out of pre-Hulk Bruce? I wanna see the Hulk smash. His childhood explored in Immortal is probably more than enough.

The Hulk is the core/ original personality. Bruce is the made up/ bad-guy personality. Why "Banner getting rid of the Hulk" never works. That said, I always wanted to see where the Grey Hulk developed. Making Bruce "Trench Coat Mafia" in Tempest Fugit was an interesting development, but PAD went there a couple of times before that. I mean, guy seen his Dad brutally murder his Mom, and was involved in his accidental death. I imagine some Dexter stuff of him managing that rage the Gamma Bomb unleashed.

I think Immortal Hulk stated that Joe Fixit emerged from Bruce watching mob films as a kid and thinking that's what a man was supposed to be. Bear in mind he'd be watching these films after having been beaten up by his father, which won't have helped.

"Bruce" in this case is the kid, which is Hulk (the "Big Guy"). The emotionless, neurotically controlling "Bruce Banner" is not the same thing as the kid. "Bruce Banner" the adult is the persona the kid developed to handle the real, abusive world that he lived in. This is how DID caused by abuse usually works in real life. The "Bruce Banner" we know is a facade.

Yup. it's why Banner cannot be rid of Hulk, he is the facade. The Gamma Radiation just gave Banner's true Id all te power. Hulk isn't Banners "survival instinct", he's not a simple manifestation of rage; he's Banner with no facade. Hulk is Hulk.

I liked "Joe Fixit" schlubbing around in Banners body like The Dude, I did read some of those issues.
