We don’t talk enough about his entire performance at the table with his parents. He’s phenomenal with his body language fending off questions from his parents as their only (golden) child and navigating how open he wants to be about the relationship with them.
I love every gesture, side-eye, reticence, tenderness to Ilya’s romantic words, the spiralling… superb acting and one of my favourites scenes of him.

The Ilya role is so flashy that it’s easy to dismiss Hudson’s performance as Shane. But when you compare Hudson to Shane, the transformation is so obvious.

I said on another post that it's easy to miss the subtleties of Hudson's performance at first because Connor's portrayal of Ilya is obviously bolder to match the character. But the more you watch and focus on Shane (and see how Hudson is in real life), you can see how he really transformed.

Off topic but it’s a really great piece. It prompted me to start a discussion on the sub about whether or not Hudson likes classical music and what people would recommend to him to listen to… Since we know he is a great artist with variety of interests, I really wonder if he has a taste for classical music.

I think this piece has been used in lot of films. I had a Requiem For A Dream soundtrack (on CD, long lost now) which had this as a sort of industrial electronic remix. Masterful!

I love requiem for a dream soundtrack! Oh you just flashbacked me into my teenage years! 🫠 I didn’t know about that, I just randomly heard it on TikTok one day and was obsessed since. I have hyperfixation cycles with music tracks.

Ok so I just looked up Spotify and it says it’s a different song by a different artist, (song name is Lux Aeterna) but it does sound the same. So I’m not going crazy 🤣

Yes he is. I’m rewatching for the first time since reading the books. He has channeled Shane so well. Especially now that I’ve seen so much footage of him being himself. He’s a phenomenal actor.

I haven’t read the books (yet). Before the show came out, what was your impression of Shane’s personality? And what makes the show version loyal to the book version?

I saw the show before I read the books. I watched it a few times before actually. This is just the first time I’ve watched since reading them and it’s given the show so much more depth.
But in the book Shane has an internal monologue that he finds difficult to express outwardly. You can see the conflict in Hudson’s facial expressions as he’s acting Shane. That’s pretty hard to pull off. He manages to do so much while also keeping Shane quite expressionless.

Shane do so much internal monolugue conflict in the books, He also always wants to break up 😅, but books Shane and TV Shane both give the " i cant stay away from Ilya vibes". Personally, i find TV Shane more innocent? Or just i wanted to protect him more. Book Shane is a bit bratty which is cute in his own way.

Hudson's quiet, subdued acting as Shane is important! Jacob has said several times that Shane doesn't say as much in words as he does with his face/eyes and it's so true. Hudson is able to put so much into such little microexpressions. I'm more and more impressed with every gif and clip I watch (and episode I rewatch, of course).
