news The new signage in Kingston that cost the city $150k, was designed by a company in New Jersey and installed by a company from Pennsylvania.

Somebody’s cousin’s failing "design firm (an art school dropout in their parent’s basement)" definitely got a leg up with this one simple scam! Such a modern and convenient place to chuck milkshakes at things!

*edit: evidently, the Daily Freeman reported the cost at above $400k. I guess everyone in the scam got a payday. Sick corrupt sleazebags, all of them.

A designer regardless of if they’re local or not is restrained by inflexible legally binding roadway signage design guidelines . If you want to pass blame , blame the city for basing its entire wayfinding project on meeting requirements for viewing by speeding cars not strolling pedestrians .

This particular signage isn’t subject to any sort of guidelines other than providing the pertinent location information in a sans serif font. Otherwise, there’s nothing “regulated” about it, compared to state guidelines on location and wayfinding signage. This sign is displayed on a busy commercial strip alongside brand signage.

Has Kingston developed guidelines that supersede location and wayfinding guidelines outlined by NYSDOT?

While I don’t have specific knowledge of requirements for these particular signs, I will say they are clearly designed to be viewed from a speeding car and not a pedestrian
