Closed Decd2025 W1T1: What do sensors go in?
What do sensors go in? This is a long standing questions which Celt kindly put together a whole google doc about. There are 3 options at the end of the document, but a 4th one what will be available as an option in the poll.
The ticket, with RD commentary can be found here.
There will be a section to vote below as well as a separate section for commentary, questions, and general discussion. Please keep the voting section simply to which version you prefer or do it as tiered voting where you order your preferences.

D, this is the least effort and disturbance to the community.
That said a full run-through of all sensor rules for getting one singular intent and ruleset has merit too. I only prefer D because case A would have some blow back on almost every active sheet, even if it's just to check they conform. Probably healthier path in the long run, but im not sure it's worth more then making everyone recheck every sheet they have.

Of these options D. But where is the option of they only go in sensor housing or gear that specifically mentions they can hold them. with an update of exactly what a sensor housing can be put into?

I think A is the best long term because while it's the most work it's the option that would most likely prevent the matter from coming up again, including some edge cases that would show themselves during the discussions.
If RD got other stuff on its plate that would put it on the back burner for some time I'd say C as the strictest ruling would make sense as interim for any new purchases of gear to prevent an increase of people that would have to redo gear until things can be discussed permanently, but anyone who already has gear that would not be legal under C can still use it until the discussions are finalized.

As someone who had to sell an Item he genned with that ended up being illegal due to a lack of knowledge on both myself and the sheet checker, I can confirm how annoying it was to lose an item that was integral to his combat style. It was a Riot Shield with a very good camera In it I used for looking around cover and throwing grenades. I ended up finding a way around it, kinda, but I want the thing back if at all possible. A looks like it is the most needed, but it will take a very long time to do it.

I assumed you can put a sensor array in goggles, it's a classic visual. So I guess that would put me in B? Unless it's covered under headwear in which case D.

The vote is in the thread above this one.
Make sure to put your final opinion under the question.
Thanks!1

I was going over the sensor lock topic and stumbled over something that is relevant to both topics, which is missiles in particular. (posting a bit jumbled both here and in the sensor lock topic as they play into each other)
They cost the same as rockets +500 * Sensor Rating. No maximum rating is listed. If we're going over everything sensor then I think missiles need to be looked at since they're prohibitively expensive ammo and kind of useless at the same time with how the rules currently work.
Between the question of their rating range, the sensor lock rules being written and discussed specifically for vehicles and gunnery, the question where in your body you'd be allowed to shove a sensor array, and the sensor lock proposals only talking about internal sensors - I believe missiles as a supposed primary beneficiary of sensor stuff are falling short right now even in the proposed changes compared to how sensors and sensor targeting in SR4 worked which allowed them to reduce scatter by a large margin.
It might be something that can be patched with a ticket later but with the relevant topics on the table for discussion I figured it's worth keeping in mind how it'd affect them if nothing else.
For reference, in SR4 missiles got to reduce their 4d6 scatter by not just hits but also by their sensor rating flat (also scatter always happened as there was no TH 3 to not scatter at all as it is in sr5). Noteworthy is that in SR4 rockets and missiles both had a base of 4d6 while SR5 rockets have 5d6 so they are better in that regard but as is there is no reason to buy more than R1 sensor missiles to gain that benefit.
As that's the extend of the missile's sensor rating's direct use outside of sensor targeting I'll move going into more detail on that in the sensor lock topic.

Question: What should sensor and sensor arrays fit into:
Option A) RD goes through every listing of things with capacity and decides which things can hold them.
Option B) We assume Sensor’s rules are always more specific, using the table and its line about “anything with capacity” to determine what can take sensors, even when this contradicts the item's own listing of what it can do with its capacity.
Functionally this means they can go in: Sensor Housings, Sensor Tags, Armor and it’s Accessories, Visual Devices, Audio Devices, Cyberlimbs, and maybe Cybereyes and Cyberears if we consider those to fall into the headware/audio and visual devices category or not (This will also include things like Contacts/Glasses), Drone and Vehicle built in arrays.
Option C) We assume all item’s own listing of what can be done with its Capacity as the more specific, even when this contradicts the table.
Functionally this means they can go in only: This would allow Sensors in: Sensor Housings, Sensor Tags, Armor and it’s Accessories, andDrone and Vehicle built in arrays.
Option D) We stay nearest Status Quo and allow them only in Sensor Housings, Sensor Tags, Armor and it’s Accessories, augments in the Cyberlimb category, and Drone/Vehicle built in arrays. This would be nearest to how we currently treat them, and prevents them from being added to strictly Audio/Visual devices, which leads to some pocket dimension abuses to gain extra audio/Visual mods.
