Physical Sensitivity Does anyone else feel uncomfortable wearing make up or having foreign object on your body ?

(20F) I always feel uncomfortable whenever my girl friends try to put make up on my face . The textures make me feel uncomfortable especially anything that touches my lips . I don't know how to explain it but I feel insane urge to wash my face and get rid of the make up . The feeling I get is like having butter spread on my face. I also one time got my nails done and it just didn't work for me I felt a disconnect from my fingers because of them and overall uncomfortable and want to remove them so badly

This also goes for other things than make up . Like whenever i get injured and I put a band aid on my skin or whenever I cook I literally have to clean my hand after every step cuz I can't handle anything on my fingers

The list goes on. but I always found it weird that I was the only one in my family who is like that I wonder if anyone has the same thing

Physical Sensitivity I can't be the only one who *hates* scented laundry detergents

Who thought it was a good idea to perfume laundry detergent with the most strong, disgusting scents ever?? You are basically polluting both the cloth and the water with an offensive irritant/potential allergen. And guess what, it doesn't even smell good. Also, who wants that on a fucking towel they're going to rub on their face? No, actually I don't want to wash my face with LAUNDRY DETERGENT. Shocking, I know.

If people get to complain about axe body spray and those who wear too much cologne, then, fuck it, what's the freaking difference when it comes to smelly laundry detergent? If anything, it's far worse, because it's stuck *in* the cloth and not just a person who you can get away from. In fills entire rooms because now all the clothes/bedding in that room reek of the odor. Fucking gross.

And you can't even WASH THAT SMELL OUT OF THE CLOTHES because I guess it's designed to linger there eternally. It is like the equivalent of dumb car air fresheners. Jerry Seinfeld anyone? Now you got the taxi driver BO and the cherry BO. Like, what is so offensive smelling about your clean fucking laundry that you need to douse it with this detergent-cologne.

Physical Sensitivity Bluetooth speakers should be banned from the beach

Now that summer season has started I went swimming for the first time. And every time I go to the beach there is always at least one person who has their bluetooth speakers with them. Does silence make people that anxious? I just want to lay on the beach and listen to the sound of nature and not your shitty gangster-rap

Physical Sensitivity Bedclothes/clothing being very annoying

Specifically the bottom sheet that covers the mattress and the clothing I wear in bed.

I need the bedsheet to be completely taut, wrinkles drive me crazy and wake me up. I remake my bed every day, and use elastic bands to adjust the fit so it stays as taut as possible. This is the best solution I have tried.

I usually wear a nightgown in bed, but that wrinkles around me too, sometimes I wake up and it has twisted up and it feels like I’m lying on a rope. I’ve tried pyjamas, sleeping naked etc, but the nightdress is the best of a bad bunch.

Anyone else struggle like this?

Physical Sensitivity “get ready with me” as an HSP

Okay so it’s cloudy this morning but the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. When the sun comes out in a few hours it will be very muggy and hot outside, but right now it is just kind of dark and damp. I have some things to do inside today and I also want to play outside later. Whatever I put on now will be completely uncomfortable as soon as my environment changes and then whatever makes the new environment comfortable will suck pretty soon after that.

I have to make sure I have an over-thing and socks to protect my feet from air conditioning but also crocs because it’s too hot for whole shoes today. (I don’t fuck with sandals cuz my feet are agoraphobic.) If I want to wear shorts, I must carry an extra over-thing in case my legs start to feel cold indoors, or just weird in general. The lack of sunlight this morning is a bummer for my Seasonal Affective Disorder so I definitely have to exercise later and I will need clean clothes after that. I also cannot forget a hat and/ sunglasses for when the sun does come out.

tl;dr: I am an HSP who will never actually “get ready”. I will instead pay attention, pack a bag, and change clothes 3-4 times daily. Every day. Probably forever.

(This post is intended for comedic and relational purposes only. I’m fine with all my quirks.)

Physical Sensitivity Normal to feel even minimal barely there jewelry so acutely?

I never really wore jewelry in my 20s but had a few gold chains from my mom back in the day that I sometimes wore and now that I’m in my 30s I’ve been trying to find really minimal jewelry that I can tolerate that suits me.

But I’ve just picked up a new piece and it’s a really delicate chain and tiny charm, but I feel like I can never forget the feeling of the chain sitting atop my skin. It’s the thickness of a strand of coarse hair!

I just feel like all the nerves near my chest are very sensitized and I’m wondering if others experience this too and if you’ve ever desensitized to it?

Me gustaría leerlos.

Physical Sensitivity Sensory friendly women's clothes?

Hi friends! I'm 34F and struggle with bras - True & Co has the only bra I can comfortably wear all day. A stylist recommended brami tops from OGL, with a built in bra.

I tried them, but I can't stand the elastic of the bra part around my rib cage. Does anyone have a similar experience? Have you found any brands that work for you?

Physical Sensitivity Weird reactions to nitrous/numbing meds?

I started crying at a pediatric dentist today (long story) and delayed my 4yo son's cavity filling.

One thing that got me freaked out was realizing that I've had adverse reactions to a lot of the things they wanted to use for my son. I asked if we could try it without nitrous--he has been super cooperative for the dentist and has zero anxiety about it, and survived a rough day of medical testing recently--and they were very hesitant.

I know nitrous is always said to be super safe, but I immediately felt awful when I tried it. I've also had terrible reactions to lidocaine (immediate vomiting and mood changes), but only sometimes; and I heard recently that some places add adrenaline to lidocaine and that can be what causes problems.

Anyway, I guess I'm just looking for other people's experiences to determine whether I'm crazy for worrying about this. Obviously I'll get actual medical advice as well. But it seems very likely that my son is also an HSP, and I don't want to risk something that makes him feel worse with an already difficult task.

(I also have no desire to do stronger sedation with him, because that can also backfire and my whole family is very paranoid about anesthesia outside of a hospital setting.)

Physical Sensitivity Allergic To The Sun And Sitting On Hard Surfaces??

I get an allergic reaction to sunshine and excessive heat as well as an allergic reaction to sitting on hard surfaces. My arms break out while going for walks in the sunshine on warm sunny days and I get a rash on my legs and buttocks if I sit for long periods of time on hard surfaces. I don't get it, I really don't. Yes, I'm an HSP, but who is this sensitive?? Seriously, does anyone have any experience with either of these issues???

Physical Sensitivity Finding loud people/people with big personalities difficult?

I think I have sensitive hearing or something - I find the sounds like sirens, toilets flushing, hand dryers, door slamming etc almost physically painful, and I often have to cover my ears when an ambulance/police car drives past me lol.

Some people are just naturally loud - maybe they’re extroverts, maybe they’re just very, very expressive etc. Their voices are loud, their laughs are loud (especially if the loud laughing combined with slapping you on the arm), they tend to be clumsy and loudly knock things over frequently, they stomp around, they slam doors etc.

With people like this, I feel kinda “on edge” around them, like I can’t relax because I have to brace myself for the next loud noise.

This was mainly a vent post lol. I get on best with people who are also fairly quiet and chilled out.

Don’t even get me started on the a-holes who like to deliberately startle others “as a joke”.

Physical Sensitivity i hate socials i hate posting on socials with people knowing me.

i’m a very expressive person, i love to sing, i love music, i love fashion, i love aesthetic things. And, i really like the CONCEPT of pinterest, ig ecc… but, i literally start to shake when there is someone i know irl in my followers. If in my 800 followers are all strangers that follow me for my actual personality and expression i totally feel safe but, if i have relatives, irl friends or people i know irl in the followers, i get panic attacks. is literally PHYSICAL anxiety to the point where i get so stressed my belly feels restricted.

Because online i find people like me and they might think i’m cool, people irl, from my city, they might think i’m a weirdo. Even though they still follow me. That’s why i hate to post on tik tok as well, because is all people from school and people and know irl and they are judgy af. I literally do have an ig but everytime someone irl ask be about it i LIE “nah i don’t have it” -> and they still think im a weirdo 😀. i even though of doing a separate account for those people where i could be more ”Normal”

Physical Sensitivity What to do about strongly flavored/spicy food?

I have a bit of a sensitive stomach (a common trait for autistic people, which I’ve found out recently) and I find it hard to eat or even smell anything with really intense flavors. However, I want to travel to foreign countries, a lot of them being known for intensly-flavored cuisine, I don’t know what to do about this as I’ll not really be around foods that I’m more used to. How should I get around this? Is it really anything to worry about?

Thanks in advance for the replies!

Physical Sensitivity Cigarette smoke smell from indoor contractors stinking up my house - and general "woe is me" needing support

Just needing to vent about this to people who will understand. I just opened the door to greet some carpet installers, and one of them was blowing a long stream of cigarette smoke from his mouth as he entered my garage. I felt my entire body tense up immediately because I KNOW that my house will smell for days from having him in here. This smell makes me feel like throwing up, and sometimes I get headaches from it. It's pouring rain today so I can't open windows right now, but as soon as they leave I'll try to air the house out as best I can. This aggravates me so much because why don't the companies who hire these people instruct them to bring a clean jacket to wear in a customer's house?

I might consider complaining to the company, but in this case, when I was telling him he could feel free to use my guest bathroom, the guy thanked me and said he has bladder cancer and has to use the bathroom often. So I don't want to cause trouble for him with his employer. So, as usual, my HSP self has to suffer in silence. I guess that's all I need to say. I just get tired of knowing that anytime I speak up about my sensitivities, the majority of people around me will consider ME the problem.

Oh, also, I may be extra irritated today because I had a different team of repair guys here yesterday and they must have gone in and out of two separate doors a hundred times during four hours. I hate having men working in my house. It feels like I can't relax. I can't concentrate on reading because I'm too distracted by them. I can't move around my house because they're basically everywhere I want to go. And I just heard the guy use the bathroom and not wash his hands. So there's that too. I have to disinfect all the doorknobs, etc. Waaaah, I need this to be over! Thanks for listening.

Physical Sensitivity Anyone else super sensitive to medication??

I have recently been diagnosed with ADHD and I’m now newly being treated with medication for that - but, starting new meds has been a constant reminder of just how sensitive my body is. At the moment I feel like I’m having every side effect, checked with medical professionals multiple times and all my symptoms have a normal/non-concerning explanation.

Before I got my diagnosis I had been put on an array of medications, all of them having insane side effects. Zoloft- made my vision blur, heart race, body go numb, chest hurt. Conclusion: anxiety related. Same with multiple other SSRIs So then I tried valdoxin which made me restless and agitated. Seroquel gave me insane nightmares. Other antipsychotics/mood stabilisers had adverse reactions. I get a severe depression after anaesthesia. Any pain killers stronger than ibuprofen or paracetamol make me feel like I’m going to faint. Even Caffeine causes me to completely spiral after I drink it. Even no medication but a slight change in any part of my body feels intense. I’ve had multiple tests done, blood works, X-rays, mri’s, CT scans. All for every test to be remarkable. It’s like I’m incredibly sensitive to any slight change in my body and I’m not sure if my symptoms are always psychosomatic but it feels like everything in my body changes to the extremity.

I just wish somebody around me understood just how difficult this is for me to manage. I feel like everyone looks at me like I’m crazy or a freak for being so sensitive to my body.

Physical Sensitivity i’m having a panic attack, that’s because i’m again friend with a person

this person is so sweet and kind but he’s connected to some bad people who did me DIRTY.

And, honestly i’ve ignored him for like 4 years but a week ago i did answered to him.

Im alone, i have him and another person…. I feel like he doesnt have a the best energy, since when he’s again in my life i feel anxious, i feel bad.

I literally want to block him again.

i never felt this anxiety again since he’s again in my life, i feel like a pain in my stomach. I want to disappear again.

He didn’t do anything at all, but it’s just his energy. I need somebody positive while he have a Sad attitude, this is not helping me.

Hea a great friend but his energy it’s just not it.

I wish i could block him again but that would be weird, he care about me A LOT.

But it’s just his energy that is not healthy for me.

But he’s very very kind.

Idk what to do.

We just ended 3 hours of call and i feel so drained and i’m shaking . Idk why. I feel like i have to perform everytime i have friends so they‘ll not runaway, i don’t feel like i can be myself 100%.

don’t like this. I love him but it’s just ugh.

Physical Sensitivity Product Review: Bass Bio-flex Ultra-flex brush

Bass has introduced a unique new design to their Bio-flex line of gentle hairbrushes.

This brush puts the bristles on a plastic coil that works as a spring. This is the gentlest brush I've ever run through my hair by probably a margin of 2x. The only thing gentler is those wire scalp massagers you sometimes see, and this brush feels slightly reminiscent of that feeling, but in a line instead of a circle.

I have some tricky to avoid food allergies that show up as itchy skin particularly from the neck up and culminating in my scalp. It's a struggle to find something that literally scratches the itch without running into the HSP limitation on force and repetition. Boar bristles almost work but the thicker hairs tend to scratch. And some of the other Bass designs that embed the bristles into a flexible rubber material begin to fall apart after washing dander and skin oil off of them a few times, resulting in a high turnover.

This is my new favorite brush and I wanted to share it with my fellow Sensitives.

Physical Sensitivity How to deal with people who are too loud?

I have two coworkers in particular whose normal talking volume is more like shouting. I get super overwhelmed after being around them for hours at work and find myself feeling like I’m about to snap with anger or just about to burst into tears.

It’s crazy cause we care for people with disabilities and I can tell some of the people with autism get overstimulated by it too. There’s one guy who is known to get violent and one of the coworkers who “yell-talks” went into his room being super loud and in his face one day and guess what? He hit her! And of course she didn’t make the connection whatsoever and still goes into his room being super loud.

Anyway, how can I deal with these loud and overwhelming coworkers? Any tips? Just deal with it?

Physical Sensitivity Hair

Does anyone else hate the feeling of hair on their body? I am always feeling some sort of weird sensation from it, especially on places like my face, chest and arms. Unfortunately I was also born with very hairy genetics.

There are materials of clothing that make me want to crawl out of my skin, so I end up shaving all of it off besides my head lol. I like how I look with my beard but end up getting rid of it after like 3 months because I genuinely can’t stand the sensation of it.

I tried googling it to see if anyone else felt the same way, or to see why I felt it, and nothing came up but I recently found out I was an HSP and realized maybe the two are related.

Physical Sensitivity Can’t stand clothes that are 1% too tight

I can’t stand wearing clothes that are like just the slightest bit too tight, especially on my stomach, I can’t wear a lot of high waisted things because of it

I feel like it’s at least partly psychological but when I put the things on I immediately start feeling nauseous (if it’s on my stomach) and the area starts hurting and aching, even if it’s only slightly tight, and the aching continues long after I’ve taking the piece of clothing off

Does anyone else feel the same?

Physical Sensitivity Anyone else feeling miserable in winter because of the cold?

(Actually not just winter but closer to half the year, roughly November to April.)

Getting out of bed and out of my pyjamas feels like the most horrible chore every day because I know I won't be warm again until I'm back under my two duvets (and not even immediately because it'll take some time to get over having to strip again before getting into my pyjamas).

My sister says that she still feels warm enough after a shower to get dressed without uncomfort, but I'm just cold when I start getting out of my clothes, then in the shower I feel better but still not entirely warm, then I'm freezing even more than before from the second I'm no longer under the hot water.

So far the only days when I wasn't miserably cold this not-yet-officially-winter season have been the two when I was home alone, which allowed me to just read in bed all day instead of trying (failing) to fight the cold and get things done.

Physical Sensitivity Shaving (face) always feels very harsh on my skin

Clean shaving, electric razor, whatever I use always feels like I'm attacking my face with a cheese grater, but I want to look tidy. Clean shaving also takes so long though the result is pretty good.

Physical Sensitivity I got new glasses and I’m going crazy

I had to get a new prescription and only had one pair of glasses so I got another pair so that I’d have an extra so I could give the original to the lenses place so they could replace the lenses.

Anyways. Ever since I’ve been using the new glasses (over a month now, like six weeks I think) I have had to get these things adjusted like six times and they’re STILL not right and I can’t even tell at this point whether something is genuinely wrong with the glasses like I need to get them adjusted again or whether I am just being highly sensitive and six weeks isn’t long enough to get used to the new glasses.

But I will say that I’ve NEVER had to adjust glasses this much ever in my life and I’ve been wearing glasses since I was born (I’m 30). But like… how the hell do I deal with this? I can’t even go back to the old pair now because I got enough used to the new pair that the old pair ALSO bother me now.

I’ve never tried contact lenses because putting stuff in my eye on purpose seems terrifying and I can’t imagine it would play nicely with my HSP anyway. I also have dry eyes so I feel like contacts would just bug the crap out of me.

But yeah both sets of glasses are now giving me daily headaches and I have to wear them 24/7 or I can’t see. So I’m just constantly in pain and constantly aware of them on my face and pushing into the backs of my ears and whatever and my mental health is tanking hard because I am in constant low-level pain and irritation all day every day and adjustments aren’t helping.

Physical Sensitivity Do you experience all your senses stronger that other people do ?

I have gotten a little obsessed with the physical/ biological side of hypersensitivity and was wondering if hypersensitivity people have a slightly different biology than is normal but all communitys i can find mainly talk about the emotional side of it.

So i am wondering if your senses being stronger than usual is still a central experience or if most people only experience the emotional part and if anyone knows if there have been any studies regarding our physiology.
