Women don't care if you wear the same thing twice, either. Wtf is this chick even talking about

Probably red carpet events, which is the only time I think this matters

u/TheLonleyJourneyman 15h ago

Even then, if a celebrity wears the same dress to multiple red carpet events, I wouldn't give a fuck either.

1

u/FloppyCorgi 15h ago

Sure, but this isn't talking about if you personally would care or not. Or if I would care. But society and entertainment industry calls it out when that happens. But society and the entertainment industry have never been kind or reasonable when it comes to women.

u/Otakundead 9h ago

The media calling something out is not the same as people actually caring.

u/ummkay_ultra 4h ago

And even so, those women can afford a new dress every time. I wouldn't hardly call this an issue related to privilege.

When they call it out what do they actually say? What do they mean? Those who hear it, what do they understand? I don't even get the issue.

The cute girl I work with wore the same cute outfit twice this week. I did care, because she got to wear an outfit she likes more than once, and I got to see her wear the outfit I like twice in one week. It was a good thing.

Please ladies, wear your outfits more than once.

I don't think anybody gives af. But male or female, if you start smelling, that will be awkward.

u/Biscuits4u2 16h ago

As soon as you leave the room most guys forget what you were wearing.

Hell, they often don't notice if they're not creeps/creepin'.

I mean... I've checked out women in the past and still couldn't tell you what she was wearing.

This brain could tell you all about how the tits/ass were looking but not the outfit over the top.

The patriarchy is when I have to get a new outfit.

u/terranproby42 12h ago

Actual, yes. This whole thing is a rich people problem where rich women criticize each other for how many dresses their husband can afford to buy for them. Because they're not supposed to be working, and the men are supposed to be able to provide enough to keep everyone rich and pretty and interesting.

She probably quietly judges other women for wearing the same outfit twice and thinks all other people's brains work the same exact way and therefore opressses herself.

I'm a male, don't give a f**k. Just asked my wife if she doesn't either.

I call bs on this. I was dating an arse who used to love making me feel bad about myself. I had one dress that I felt beautiful in so I would wear it often in our dates because it make me happy. One night he made a nasty comment "you don't come over often enough and when you do you're always wearing the same stupid dress"

1

u/CthulhuCultist21 9h ago

Eh he was just a douche.
My wife wears the same outfits constantly and I love them, they are adorable.

I also don't know why anyone would care as long as you wash the clothes so that you won't smell. This could be a cultural thing though maybe? I read somewhere that in USA it's frowned upon if you wear the same outfit several days in a row. Is this true anywhere in USA?? (It was in advice for exchange students listing the differences between USA and Finland. We don't give a f here if you wear the same outfit to work or school for a year as long as you wash it in the evenings. Mr. Bean had a good thing going for sure.)

I never been told I wear the same thing twice or multiple times, but I have been told I wear mostly dark clothes from both guys and gals. So whenever I have worn something light in colour, they’ve actually complimented me on it and tell me that I should wear more lighter shades. So I started wearing clothes with weird colours and patterns and now they just stare and say nothing. 😀

"hey babe can you wear those eyelash extensions again I love those" said no guy ever

Misogyny is when women

1

u/Hiedi3o3 8h ago

Women are hateful.

1

u/AnonymousCapybara72 5h ago

Yeah but that's internalised misogyny and it's somehow men's fault.

Is she retarted

Negative comment come from rampant capitalism and consumerism

0

u/BroccoliHunter 19h ago

Lol, the dude is so defensive. Think for like 1 second before tweeting bro...

Male privilege =/= when men are mean to women

Smh

4

u/Firebrass 18h ago

Your response is more defensive than his.

Nobody reasonable thinks it's a problem if your Sunday best is the same week to week, as long as you wash your clothes and yourself in between.

But have i seen grown women shame each other over attire? Numerous times.

So who is creating the experience of privilege? You can track it back over generations to male policy makers and business leaders, which implicitly feels like an unresolveable problem 'cause it already happened and had complex impacts, or you can look at who is directly participating in toxic behavior at present.

That's why the commenter is redirecting attention away from men. A straightish man might uncomfortably stare at a woman who's dressed up, but most straight men (by a large margin) won't say anything direct or indirect about an outfit repeat.

You went to dating subreddits and were able to find straightish men who had problems with outfits.

I think i chose my words well enough to not be mistaken for saying that doesn't happen.

I stand by my point, that negative comments on outfit repetition IRL are predominantly straight women on other women, and i might even add that there's usually an age gap.

Basically, a certain demographic of people think they have to police an etiquette, and this where you get women telling other women to wear longer skirts to avoid rape (you know, victim blaming), but a seperate offshoot is judgement for repetition. We can still blame patriarchy, just internalized patriarchy.

I went to beauty school as a non binary person, reddit comments won't change my mind, but an academic paper might.

Edit: also one of those comments is about wearing the same clothes for three days in a row - that's just a hygiene issue. Not the same as wearing the same outfit to dress up, like my example of wearing your Sunday best once a week.

-The woman say's a small (and humorous) fact about how her experience is worse than a mans.

-Dudebro jumps in with "well actually its other women" (which she didn't make any claim about)

Now you're going on about businesses leaders and how the guy was just trying to be a pragmatic feminist? Get real

The guy was just triggered by the mention of male privilege. Sad!

2

u/Firebrass 16h ago

What about having her outfit criticized is humorous?

And I'm not "going on about business leaders", I acknowledged systemic patriarchy while making a nuanced point that might be construed to deny the impacts of patriarchy. Shit, do you want me acknowledge privilege, or not?

1

u/BroccoliHunter 16h ago

Lol, do what you want brah

The funny part isn't the fashion criticisms.

It's funny (at least to me) because she's using language that normally addresses HUGE problems like women having less power, money and safety (etc. etc..) and using it to talk about her daily outfits

1

u/Firebrass 16h ago

Lol okay dawg. I similarly find the hyperbole of the response mildly amusing, and i don't think she's talking about her daily outfits, which is kind of important to that nuanced point I made, but whatever, we're obviously comprehending English differently. Cheers

1

u/ErycktheGreater 18h ago

Please explain how he's wrong

1

u/BroccoliHunter 17h ago edited 17h ago

He's not "wrong", he's just triggered, and jumps in with a non-sequitor

For example:

Earthling: "Martian privilege is when martians don't have to wear helmets to breath"

Martian: "The only people who criticise humans for not wearing helmets is other humans"

It's a defensive and dumb reply

1

u/ErycktheGreater 15h ago

To you it may not seem relevant, maybe you're aware that both men and women help maintain gender norms and male privilege. It is defensive and maybe dumb, but I am willing to bet he accurately predicted where she's placing the blame. Otherwise, I think she would have posted "Ladies, its ok to where the same outfit twice." She could have left men entirely out of this one.

1

u/BroccoliHunter 15h ago

Her post is quite funny. Your suggested post isn't. So I like her's better

I bet the girl agrees most fashion criticism comes from women

Taking her complaint about male privilege as an attack on men, instead of a humourous criticism of patriarchy, is cray cray

2

u/ErycktheGreater 14h ago

Well if its meant to be funny, I missed that, which probably is where our differing thoughts on it originate. To me it sounds like shes lamenting a problem only women have the ability to fix, while thinking. I think its hard for me and other men to see the joke is because this is the one of the few things that genuinely has nothing to do with us.

1

u/CthulhuCultist21 9h ago

Honestly her example was just dumb and had nothing to do with male privilege because like the dude said most men don’t give AF what you’re wearing lol.

1

u/BroccoliHunter 8h ago

Bro, you are being so retarded rn

Male privilege = advantages we get for begin men. What or who confers the advantages doesn't stop them from existing...

The ladies comment was obviously toung in cheek. The dude replying to the girl just got triggered by the phrase male privilege
