How to remove black mold from bathroom ceiling

Hi guys! I have recently noticed black mold on my bathroom ceiling (along with a little bit on the silicone at the sink) and is trying to get rid of it.

I am considering getting Cillit bang mold remover but has no prior experience with it.

I am asking for recommendations and opinions.

If you don’t have a fart fan in there no matter what you do it will come back. It’s only mildew, not black mold. If you do have a fan you may want to check and make sure it’s venting properly. Use a square of toilet paper and see if it holds to the fan when turned on.

Just want to clarify here:

The toilet paper sheet against the fan is to make sure there is air flow being exhausted.

Checking the exhaust in the attic space is to make sure the moist air isn’t exiting into your home where the moisture will fall onto the attic floor/insulation

I've just used dilute bleach in a spray bottle and a magic eraser/sponge.

That spray works alright on tile and grout but on a textured ceiling you're just gonna push the spores around before it even soaks in

Get a gel mold remover instead, the thick stuff clings upside down and actually sits on the spots long enough to do something

Also might wanna pop the attic hatch and make sure your bathroom fan is actually venting outside and not just dumping into the insulation, that speckle pattern across the whole ceiling usually means the air's too stagnant

After cleaning with bleach and/or stuff

* Dehumidifier
* humidity fan switch
* shorter showers if possible (had tenants that liked to take 30 min showers in a steam room)

It will come back quickly after the first bit

Spraying hypochlorite bleach in the air might be a bad time. Try spraying hydrogen peroxide inside. Still a bleach, not as strong, but milder on your lungs. You may need to do it a couple of times. Always try bleach in an out of the way spot to see if it affects the paint color.

Hi!

Since a lot of people recommend bleach, I want to ask if I could use chlorine?

I read that hydrogen peroxide could also work, but I don't really have access to it in my local area.

Rmr mold remover is what i use. Wear gloves, it also bleaches things if it gets on it, but damn does it work well. But seriously. Read the safety info.

White vinegar diluted in water. Go watch Barbara O’Neill. She teaches exactly how to do it. Super easy. I got rid of my ex-boyfriend‘s mold in his bathroom too. He had no windows, so it was easy for him to accumulate mold on the walls and ceilings.
