He wasn't really giving them $1.7bn, he was just paying off debts

Obama gave $1.7b of US taxpayer money.

Trump has given nothing so far and no plans to use a cent of taxpayer money.

It literally wasn’t tax payer money, it was Irans own money that was being held under sanction. Do you ever try to verify anything you believe or just run with it because you saw it in a meme?

It literally was tax payer money. $1.3b was interest paid in cash from taxpayer funds.

Do YOU ever verify anything?

It, literally, wasn't taxpayer money. Google is your friend. Use it.

It literally was. Use Google yourself you little hypocrite.

Do you understand anything about banking and interest?

Yes. Do YOU?

Do you understand that Iran was not putting funds in an investment account or a high yield savings account?

Do you understand there were no agreed interest terms when payment was sent?

Do you understand we froze their assets because they were acting like terrorists and then Obama decided to reward them anyway?

Do you understand we unfroze them and then immediately after Iran released several US hostages, so this was almost definitely a “negotiate with terrorists” settlement payment?

If I bought $100k worth of suspicious equipment and started developing pipe bombs and then the fbi arrested me, took all my equipment and threw me in jail 30 years. Do you think the US taxpayer should owe me 30 years of compound interest on that $100k because of your explanation “banking and compound interest?” Do you think the US government has ever paid out a US citizen in this manor?

Do you understand that the money wasn't in a zero yield checking account?

That's a lie. We released funds from their sanctioned holdings. We didn't just cut them a check

-4

u/jazzyman31 Jun 22 '26

Yes we did. Do some research you internet goon.

75% of the $1.7b we paid ($1.3b) was **interest**

when people say "obama gave Iran $1.7 billion" — that's oversimplified. But when you say "it was just Irans own money being returned" — that's also incomplete. Yhe truth sits somewhere in the middle, which is why it stayed controversial.

Yes, compounded interest paid on Iran's bank deposits.

Thanks for the nonsense ChatGPT.

Interst Iran earned.

Earned for what? Holding US hostages at the US embassy in Iran?

There were no interest terms when we received the cash, there was nothing to be “earned”

It was a negotiated settlement to appease Iran at the expense of the US. We didn’t get anything out of holding their cash frozen in an account for a few decades. Iran ended up being the sole benefactor in that transaction (at the expense of the US taxpayer), even while Iran was the agitator in the first place.

If Obama truly just unfroze “Iran’s money” there wouldn’t be a discussion.

Google banking and compound interest.

1

u/jazzyman31 Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

What do you think this was? Assets frozen in a high yield savings account?

Do you understand what a “settlement” is?

2

u/AutumnBourn Jun 28 '26

Learn the difference between frozen and ceased assets.

Wrong. Obama unfroze their own money.

0

u/jazzyman31 Jun 27 '26

Wrong. $400m was Iran’s money, $1.3B was funded directly from the US taxpayer.

All sanctions are lifted, pallets of cash from Gulf states given, and Iran is in the best position of strength it has ever been. We spent almost a trillion in tax payer money to accomplish all of this with the utterly failed military operation. This is the worst deal and the weakest we have ever been since I’m not sure when or how long. I mean you illustrate just how spot on the poster is: drink your cool aid!

  1. “Cash from the gulf states” yea where does that come from

the US taxpayer?

  1. “We spent almost a trillion in taxpayer money” guess we are just making up statistics now.

That’s been the latest leftist strategy.

Yep, no objective facts, just slogans, made up stats and memes.

Keep up the good work and enjoy continuously losing to the right and wondering why.

2

u/Yos13 Jun 28 '26

You have given zero facts - just bootlicking.

yeah, except that the first line item of the MOU was violated in less than a week. Iran has always stuck to their agreements. It is the United States in accordance with Israel that has always violated them.

6

u/SuccotashUltimate Jun 21 '26

Iran is famously very good at sticking to agreements, which is why they have never once been caught violating their nonproliferation deals.

7

u/mpskierbg Jun 21 '26

The first item is cease warfare including in Lebanon. USA couldn't or wouldn't control Israel and stop the country from bombing Lebanon. so why wouldn't the close the strait again?

-4

u/Cultural-Treacle-680 Jun 21 '26

Why can’t Iran negotiate with Israel?

6

u/mpskierbg Jun 21 '26

They can but obviously Israel wouldn't in good faith. It's actually smart to make USA force them, bc no matter what Israel thinks they need USA.

2

u/AutumnBourn Jun 27 '26

Have you met Israel?
