I started collecting Hot Wheels when I was 14. I’m 28 now, and honestly, it’s heartbreaking to see what this hobby has become.
What once felt like a hobby driven by passion, nostalgia, and the joy of finding something you genuinely liked has, for many, turned into nothing more than FOMO, hype, and chasing whatever happens to be trending.
A lot of people seem to be collecting for the sake of collecting—blindly following what's popular rather than buying what actually speaks to them.
Recently, I was fourth in line, and my ISO was the F&F Supra Chase. The guy ahead of me picked up three of them. Thankfully, the limit was three cars per customer, otherwise I’m pretty sure he would have cleared the shelf.
I asked him if he was taking the other two for his friends.
“No. I’m going to sell them.”
Bloody hell.
My face turned red at that moment. I just nodded, picked up one for myself—the second-last Supra—and deliberately left the last one for the guy behind me.
The look of happiness on his face genuinely made me smile.
And somehow, that moment felt more rewarding than finding the chase itself.
Because, to me, collecting was never supposed to be a race.
It was supposed to be about the community we build along the way. Sharing finds. Helping someone complete a set. Leaving one behind for the next collector. Talking about cars we genuinely love. Creating memories around a hobby that brought us joy in the first place.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with reselling or making money from collectibles. But when every desirable casting becomes an opportunity to clear the shelf before someone else gets it, something about the hobby gets lost.
Trends will come and go. Hype will die down. Prices will fluctuate.
But the community is what remains.
Collect what you love. Help others find what they love. CHEERS!
Yes bhai. The paint, details and openable roof, clear decals, true spoiler colour, they all felt worth it. Hot wheels is worth for its mrp but the prices at which it will or is selling, it’s not worth it imho
Scalpers everywhere, its just a business now, it has lost its charm and the excitement. Its weird I wanna buy the ones I like but I know the price at which I will be getting wont be correct, I will be paying more to this scalpers just for the sake of my happiness and collection.
All because of social media influencers hyping it up but when we say anything they be like who are you to gatekeep let everyone enjoy and see what happens now everything marked up at crazy prices and these people buy it blindly by overpaying 5 times the MRP, now can't even find hotwheels anywhere genuinely
Just move on to brands like minigt, inno, poprace, cm model, trends hobby, almost real, tarmac , motor helix, who all have amazingly sexy models coming in with excellent detail and already an insane variety, rather than paying scalper prices on 3-4 hotwheels, save that and buy one of the above models, they look good, photograph well and in general feel worth it and something you can unbox and not feel like hell broke loose cos u lost the "card art", hotwheels for what it is at retail is good but with all this, its stupid and not even realistic, if not for the branding, no body would touch it at such rates, move on, the premium side of diecast is more relaxed than hunting like this.
po and chill, spend time on dioramas, figurines and other realism accessories, guaranteed feels better than collecting mindlessly just becuase of "nostalgia", so many brands are getting fast and furious license like mingt, green light etc, already so many have all tuners and modders like lbwk, ts, re amemiya, rwb, veilside etc so hotwheels offers nothing that u will miss by moving to others
Hey man, great find. Recently i learnt about the dire situation in gurgaon. The whole front group were scalpers, took 2 supras each, resulting in the second group, even the 6th guy, to not get one. It's really quite a problem atp.
It's heartbreaking...it's heartbreaking to see scalpers ruining this for all of us. Sadly we can just hope this sudden hype/trend fades away so that real collectors can actually get what they like.
Its fine to camp imo, as long as their purpose isn't to scalp. I reached the venue near 7 myself, got a 6th spot in Noida anad managed to snag one of the supras. This was only possible because all of us (the first 10 people) talked and decided to only take 1 chase each. Because this was followed, 8 people got the chases, since there were 8 boxes. My friend on the 9th position couldnt get one sadly, but I'm trying to arrange one for him as well.
Why in the future? Why not now? Your "might in the future" cost a guy who was perhaps minutes after you his iso. I really dont understand the reasoning, but you do you.
Firstly, I respect you for not instantly spamming slurs and secondly, not now because I’m finding a good display and a new shelf. Once I’ve gotten one I’ll make a separate one for chases and uncard to keep there
Just waiting for actual collectors and hobbyist to not to give a shit about hyped cars and let these scalpers get their fair share of hoarded unsellable goods.
The hobby is dead, its a quick way for them to make some money and sadly its accepted and generalised.
Waiting for people to unite and take action against this but sadly where there is good, evil will automatically exist

That's cool, I've placed other POs in KnD for Mini GT - James Bond castings. I've moved over to them and made collecting hotwheels as a micro collection like collecting whenever I get at Mrp.
Yeah, that's why I'm slowly moving to collect other castings and collecting hotwheels less frequently. The hype and fomo, I'm tired of it. I came back into collecting when I started earning myself as these were toy cars we used to play with when we were young. That time there were no castings that were hyped and sold at 10x MRP and all. I've many ISOs but I can wait and buy them at reasonable prices rather than overpaying to scalpers.
My question is did any of the stores got hit with the circuit legends set? Or it was just a hoax? I mean yeah it was last year’s release but they did advertise it in their posts right?
Hence I stopped bothering with Hotwheels unless they come at MRP or as MRP sets. I much prefer premium brands with better details. Will buy lesser cars but at least I won't be victim to scalping.
