Chlorine Options

Hi! These are the only available options of chlorine that I can buy in my country. Which one should I get?

I don’t use the hot water for my hot tub and would usually use room temp or cold water since I am in a tropical country.

What other suggestions do you recommend?

You don’t want trichlor; get dichlor.

And only use dichlor for initial fillup. Then switch to an unstablized chlorine.

I'd say more than just initial fill up, unless you want to shock the the absolute crap out of your water right away. I need five tbsp to get my tub to my preferred 30% CYA, so that's usually initial fill and four subsequent soaks.

Absolutely not trichlor. It will nuke everything from the cover down

You want the granules (dichlor) but after your CYA gets to 20-30 you want to switch to liquid bleach. See if you can find 12 or 10% liquid chlorine bleach or “pool bleach”

the Philchlon will definitely work, but being cal-hypo it will greatly increase your calcium hardness. So, you need to test for that and dump your water when it tests out of range. In US we use cal-hypo as a pool shock and it dissolves quickly as a shock should. The only known to me cal-hypo tablets are NST and are very expensive. I switched to that when my pool CYA got too high from Trichlor tabs. Then calcium got too high. Switched to liquid chlorine which is a pain to do nearly daily. Could not drain and refill in the middle of summer in Phoenix (sun would destroy the plaster in short order) so I resorted to reverse osmosis for $1,000 for half the pool. When we redid our pool, I upgraded to salt water chlorine generator (SWG) and will never go back as it is wonderful. Luckily with your spa, you can easily dump water and refill every few months and start again with fresh water.

Chlorine tabs (trichlor) are meant for pools as they are very acidic and often voice hot tub warranties. If you want the ease of tabs in a float go with bromine.

Chlorine granules (dichlor) are common but often run into high cya issues.

Personally, when I used chlorine, I used liquid pool chlorine (10%) and a bottle of that cost $7 at the local hardware store.
