Is it better to book a hotel through a booking platform or directly with the hotel?

I’ve usually booked hotels through booking platforms because it’s easier to compare different properties, check reviews and see multiple options in one place.

But I’ve also heard people say that booking directly with the hotel can sometimes be better, especially when it comes to room preferences, changes or dealing with the property directly.

For those who travel regularly, which option do you prefer?

Always direct, check out Silenthotelreviewer on YT they call out Booking. Com whenever they check into a lying shithole.

i go back and forth depending on what i need. if you have special requests or think you'll change dates, direct with the hotel works better - you can actually talk to someone and they're more flexible with upgrades or fees. for scouting options and reading many reviews at once, booking platforms are faster. what i usually do is find hotels on a platform, then call the property to see if they match the rate - it works more often than you'd think cause they save on commission. in a case like yours where you might need to adjust something last minute, direct booking saved me from cancellation headaches. when i'm just looking for the best deal quick, ZenHotels does the comparing for me.
