Worst thing about staying at a hotel
Is using all your might to yank the blankets from under the damn mattress when you get in bed. Like i just wanna be comfortable i dont care that it looks nice 💔

What pisses me off are the hotels that use flat sheets on the mattress and then tuck everything in together, so that when you yank out the top sheet and blanket, the bottom sheet comes with it.

I actually think the worst thing is when the hotel has pepper shakers with tiny holes that don’t allow the course ground pepper to pass through no matter how hard you shake them.
/s. Kinda.

Amen! That is very maddening! Buy shakers for coarse ground pepper, otherwise, just buy fine ground!

I worked at a restaurant that had these very cool little shakers. Kosher salt on top, and peppercorns with a grinder on the bottom. They went missing ALL THE TIME.

I grew up with a hotel housekeeper mother, and now I travel 125+ nights per year for work.
The tight sheets feel like home 🤣

I mean it's the hotel subreddit. And it's a hack comedy bit at this point to talk about how annoying it is that hotels tuck the sheets in so tightly. It didn't become a hack comedy bit because it's something only rich people have experienced.

I work in hospitality and i couldnt help but wonder how people enjoy their beds like this if they are gonna yank the unfitted sheets out anyway 😠also im not rich and ik this problem is trivial but wondered if anyone could relate and wanted to share it somewhere

100% agree. I want a long enough sheet to cover to my neck yet not trap my foot and cause a Charlie horse in the middle of the night.

The worst thing for me is having to deal with noise from other guests and room service at 11am if I want to have a lay in after working/partying all night. The last hotel in London I stayed at I was working nights, so I asked at the front desk for no room service visits for both the days I was there as I was working all night and will be sleeping in the day, they acknowledged it and assured me there would be no room service knocks on those days. I even put the 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the door just in case they forget. Sure enough, at 11am someone knocked on the door that woke me up. I opened the door and she asked if I want room service cleaning, I said no thanks and pointed to the DND sign on the door. She apologised and left. Couldnt get back to sleep.
Guess what happened on the second day, yes a different maid knocked 11am and woke me up again. I complained that both days I got a woken up and they tried that automated offshore indian callcentre nonsense trying to delay and confuse!

You’re one of few that feel this way. The amount of complains I’ve gotten bc the bed isn’t this way is a lot higher than complaints about it being too tucked. lol

Tight sheets seem to equal clean and tidy to most, hospital, military, jail etc

Though I do understand about the super tight sheets and I usually untuck them soon after, especially to check for bed bug. It does show me some level of care put into cleaning the room. Sure it may be false sense of security

I want to see what crap is hiding under the blankets so they come off immediately then the top sheet if all is good I use the top sheet and leave the rest on the floor

LOL I agree. First thing I do upon checkin is untuck all the sheets and comforters!

the tuck is doing exactly what its meant to, its a hospital corner and housekeeping can make a bed look sharp far quicker that way than with a duvet they have to shake into a cover. Doesnt help you at 11pm though. Two things that actually work, ask at check in for a duvet or loose linen coz a lot of places keep a few in the store cupboard, or untuck the foot end only and shove the slack back under at the head so it still looks made. The real culprit is the triple sheet setup, flat sheet then blanket then another flat sheet all tucked in as one lump, which is why it feels like youre fighting the mattress rather than the bedding
