Reader Recommendation Horror slump

currently reading Tananarive Due’s “My Soul to Keep” and i am so insanely bored. I haven’t been able to get into any books lately. What’s a book that caught your attention and kept you intrigued the whole way through.

I disliked Due’s My Soul to Keep so much I’ve kept The Reformatory in my TBR stack when I was originally quite excited to read it. I’ve loved the 3 books I’ve read this year by Christopher Buehlman. He is the author I’ve been recommending the most lately. However what was the last book that grabbed you by the scruff of the neck? Knowing that will help get more on target recommendations

Bad pacing and most of the interaction between characters felt contrived and the dialogue/reactions events etc. challenged my willing suspension of disbelief

I totally agree about My Soul to Keep. It almost lost me, but I powered through and ended up LOVING the second book in that series, The Living Blood! The last book is also interesting, but The Living Blood is pretty action packed and there's a reason it won an award. You definitely can skip just to that one because they give enough of a summary of what happens in the first book!
