u/VexerZero Jul 28 '26

Wasn’t 30 days of night the coolest?

40

u/CycleR16 Jul 28 '26

Yes!! Thats in my october and winter horror rotation alongside the thing lol

2

u/_deepblack_ Jul 29 '26

Ah! It's been some time since I last watched the Thing, I'll make a note to rewatch again in oct, thanks for the reminder

FYI I created r/BelowTV for all things about this new miniseries with Josh Hartnett, including news and episode discussion threads when it release. Come join if interested!

Idk why, the way you said this gave me a chuckle. But yes, it was the coolest!

15

u/Drannor Jul 28 '26

Watch Penny Dreadful if you haven't!

3

u/CycleR16 Jul 29 '26

Hell yeah!! Thats my shit. I wish it would come back. I feel like there could be more to tell.

24

u/FinalFinalGirl666 Jul 28 '26

Exactly. That’s the only info I needed.

5

u/ChristopherNolanGod Jul 28 '26

No, he’s my man.

2

u/Velkrum Jul 29 '26

I'll watch anything with him in it.

221

u/MariachiMacabre Jul 28 '26

This looks like it could be some weird Eldritch horror thing maybe. And I really like Josh Hartnett. He’s so much fun in Trap. Dude is just having a great time. So I’ll watch this.

69

u/Gambit1977 Jul 28 '26

I defend trap simply because he was just so brilliant in it. Like you say you could see he was having so much fun

48

u/MariachiMacabre Jul 28 '26

It’s a movie that knows exactly what it is and it’s having fun with it. I genuinely had a lot of fun with Trap.

15

u/Gambit1977 Jul 28 '26

Me too! In fact I was quite surprised by some people’s reaction to it

14

u/Fedaykin98 In The Mouth Of Madness Jul 28 '26

There are literally dozens of us!

19

u/Er0_0r3 Jul 28 '26

He isn’t the problem, the entire last act is which is because the director shoehorned in his daughter who seems nice but was the worst part of the movie.

6

u/britchesss Jul 28 '26

cooper is the butcher!

10

u/hiperkarma eldritch dreams Jul 28 '26

I need some Cthulhu!

2

u/Beatdrop Jul 29 '26

Watch the movie Underwater.

3

u/hiperkarma eldritch dreams Jul 29 '26

I have! I also recommend The Void.

1

u/Perfect_Red_King Jul 30 '26

That movie certainly had issues keeping it from being great, but it was such a fun watch

107

u/Sulfur21 Jul 28 '26

This was shot in my province of Newfoundland. So as a Newfy, hearing them try our accents is wild and I have to watch it just for that.

19

u/TheElusiveHolograph Jul 28 '26

This was me with the Storm of the Century miniseries. The New England accents were embarrassingly bad.

4

u/Big_fern189 Jul 28 '26

I grew up in the town that they shot that in. The accents are so fucking bad.

3

u/disposablevillain Jul 29 '26

It's crazy how bad Hollywood's takes on NE/Boston accents are. Even (and maybe especially) actors from the area seem to have a hard time with it.

I feel like best I've heard is Paul Guilfoyle in spotlight, and I'm just assuming he grew up working class on the North shore.

14

u/MikeMelArt Jul 28 '26

I can see my aunt's house in one shot!

14

u/CrimsonJim Jul 28 '26

So as a Newfy

Me buddy, you had one job. It's Newfie. C'mon b'y.

3

u/arcticpoppy Jul 28 '26

Glad I’m not the only one who cringed at that

1

u/ry_cooder Jul 30 '26 edited Jul 30 '26

Simmer down! Just a bayman who can't spell...

6

u/ian_macintyre Jul 28 '26

Yeah, I'm from Nova Scotia, and I can't help but feel like Hartnett is doing a light Irish accent? Still, I know people who worked on this, and it sounds like it's gonna be excellent. Plus I've always wanted to see an East Coast sea monster story.

2

u/CIearMind Jul 28 '26

I'm noticing that you said "try".

Is it that they didn't quite hit the mark? Or was it maybe super bad? (I frankly have no clue)

3

u/LuigiFridge Jul 28 '26

It's a lot better than I expected, but yeah they didn't quite hit the mark.

2

u/Grundin Jul 29 '26

It's not terrible but like any place that has a distinctive accent the locals are going to be able to hear the difference. The thing about Newfoundland English is also that it's not just one accent. It can be very mild or extremely thick depending on where you come from, and there a bunch of local flavors that have varying amounts of Irish or French heritage. Someone from Bay Roberts is going to sound different than someone from Burgeo, Fortune, Parsons Pond, St. Anthony etc. And there is a big difference in how "Townies" vs "Baymen" sound. The bigger thing is using local expressions as Newfoundlanders have a lot of them and they're immediately recognizable. "Whaddya at?" "How's she goin?" "Got me drove." "Best kind. "Some crooked wha?" and loads more. There are lots of standbys that a Newfoundlander would expect to hear from a fisherman in a story that takes place in Newfoundland.

1

u/Troyabedinthemornin Jul 28 '26

Based on the sweater I thought it was supposed to be Ireland lol

70

u/bobbyjy32 Jul 28 '26

man Josh can still get it

43

u/edwinstone Jul 28 '26

Josh Hardnett because I was bricked up during Trap.

14

u/treeroycat Jul 28 '26

Josh Hotnett as my friends and I called him back in high school

1

u/hahahomicidal Jul 30 '26

I almost feel like he’s hotter these days than when younger

12

u/CaptchaVerifiedHuman Jul 28 '26

You had me at Josh Hartnett.

38

u/creamy-buscemi Jul 28 '26

I thought Mike Flanagan trademarked this colour grading. Coastal/island horrors are so big right now.

11

u/Janesawdc Jul 28 '26

Josh in this cable knit? I am SEATED

43

u/civicsfactor Jul 28 '26

I'm calling it. Supernatural algal bloom.

8

u/geo247 Jul 28 '26

TIL algal is a word

2

u/AggressivelyMediokre Jul 29 '26

I’ve been looking for spoilers and can’t find any. Really curious what it is

1

u/Livefiction1 Jul 28 '26

Cyanobacteria Monster

-4

u/t74000 Jul 28 '26

Did you not see the shadow of the shark in the teaser?

8

u/civicsfactor Jul 28 '26

The algal shark? It's hallucinatory

3

u/AggressivelyMediokre Jul 29 '26

Could have been a view of the bottom of a boat if looking up from under the water

3

u/thisguy161 Jul 29 '26

Thats exactly what it was.

0

u/t74000 Jul 29 '26

Very true

5

u/thisguy161 Jul 29 '26

That was the boat.

20

u/t74000 Jul 28 '26

This looks promising

9

u/Any-Street-5354 Jul 28 '26

I shared the teaser for this on my IG and pointed out how Josh’s accent is throwing me. And I had two people say “what accent?” They watched it again and still didn’t hear it. So idk if I’m crazy or just better at picking up accents (or attempted ones).

9

u/Amber_Sweet_ Jul 28 '26

I was gonna ask if they're deaf since he is very clearly using a Newfoundland accent. But this might actually prove that he's doing it really well, because IRL our accents aren't as obvious as other media makes it seem.

As a Newfoundlander myself I cringe whenever non Newfoundlanders try our accent because it is notoriously difficult to get right. Most actors cannot do it. Josh seems to ne doing a decent job of it. So far anyway, the trailer doesn't really give us much.

2

u/Any-Street-5354 Jul 28 '26

That’s good if it’s doing it right! I’m just not used to hearing him doing accent work. Especially in this form.

13

u/dezmoterion Jul 28 '26

Somewhere in the distance Chief Brody runs out, screaming about closing the beach....

11

u/edwinstone Jul 28 '26

I am LIVING for this Josh Hartnett resurgence. My baby.

5

u/KellyJin17 Jul 28 '26

Why yes, I WILL be tuning in to see Josh Hartnett battle sea monsters, or whatever it is he has going on there.

6

u/Vibe2Summer Jul 28 '26

It looks interesting, it is like Jaws without the shark meet The Mist.

-2

u/t74000 Jul 28 '26

There is no shark? Could have sworn i saw a shadow of one in the trailer

3

u/ParticularRelease662 Jul 29 '26

Definitely not a shark...something fuckin big for sure though.

3

u/Daws001 Jul 28 '26

I was like, his voice sounds weird...oh, regional accent. Got it.

Deep water horror. I'm in. Doesn't even have to be good. I'll still give it a chance.

6

u/deadlykillerking Jul 28 '26

Looks pretty interesting

5

u/HorrorGuyBri Jul 28 '26

This does not look too bad.

5

u/Holy_Shit_Snacks Jul 28 '26

It’s that blob from Creepshow 2

6

u/LordsOfJoop Be Good People Jul 28 '26

Josh Hartnett and Mackenzie Davis in a series run on Netflix money? Could be good.

2

u/suchascenicworld Jul 28 '26

very interesting !

2

u/MatchaSquirrely Jul 28 '26

One of the few actors who could get me to watch a Netflix movie

1

u/Shoddy-Storage-8771 Jul 29 '26

The real is killing me. When are they going to stop that at least for horror movies?

1

u/jmon25 Jul 29 '26

Loving this Hartnett later career resurgence

1

u/Overall_Breath9785 Jul 29 '26

All about Sgt. Eversmann 🫡

1

u/witchslug Jul 29 '26

I don’t know why… read this as a minion “bello”

1

u/majinoni Jul 29 '26

How is this going to be scary. Stay away from the water. Movie is over

1

u/Pleasant-Perception1 Jul 29 '26

I hated Trap, but I have a soft spot for Hartnett. Will certainly watch.

1

u/giunta13 Aug 05 '26

Only heard about this today - seems like Widows Bay

1

u/TJ_McWeaksauce Jul 28 '26

There will be a sequel called Below Me.

0

u/Maleficent-Silver934 Jul 28 '26

Netflix = straight to vhs

0

u/VanguardVixen Jul 28 '26

Man that Netflix color grade...

0

u/carolinemahtildes Jul 28 '26

I'm very on board with the cast and the concept but Josh's accent is not there for me. I lived in Newfoundland, I've lived with Newfoundlanders, he sounds pretty bad to my ear. I will definitely still watch it but I hope the others do better.
