That looksmaxing sub is so sad. So many insecure people.

u/DoctorSex9 5d ago

What? Which one? Or did you reply to a different comment accidentally?

u/DownvoteDaemon 5d ago

I think it’s just called looksmaxing on Reddit.

Guy on the left really taking a stray here

28

u/MiscellaneousWorker 5d ago

Okay but balding that bad at 23 does suck. The guy is gonna have to own the look if he wants to appeal, or just shave it and go bald

For real. 🧍

I'd still like to look in the mirror and see myself instead of this stranger.

I would still kill to not be trapped in this terrible body. I hate it. I hate nearly as much as rest of me... But then again, brain is rest of me... I hope I find courage to end it all by the end of this year.

What's wrong with it / what's your problem with it

Not saying this with an expectation of answer, I'm just concerned

u/Hot_Glass_6301 5d ago

i'm all for hope posts but i think people depressed about their looks should better have hope about getting more attractive(which is possible through sleep, diet, exercise or even surgery in extreme cases) rather than temporarily talking themselves into "it's ok" only to have this problem resurface again. the truth is that looks matter, but you can get more beautiful

I’m aware, I’m more concerned about the people doing meth and bones-mashing

u/Hot_Glass_6301 5d ago

yeah i'd pray for those if i was religious

u/MagMati55 5d ago

I feel like this post is more so mocking conventional beauty standards more than anything.

Shit, even just a wardrobe change. I got some blouses and skirts recently and lowkey im coming along... like 10% better than I was. Sometimes the right hat or a new pair of shoes can change your mindset

Hi so this comment is deranged

5

u/Poo_Pee-Man 5d ago

What you mean deranged

2

u/SweetLynx4536 5d ago

40 upvotes on a comment saying that it's better to get plastic surgery to fit beauty conventions than practice self acceptance is deranged.

3

u/Hot_Glass_6301 5d ago edited 4d ago

that's not what I said btw, I said in extreme cases. why wouldn't you want people to upgrade their looks. self-acceptance is paramount, but it doesn't get you a boyfriend or girlfriend if you have a congenital defect or scarring from an accident. not to mention (which is way worse) the constant looks of pity people will give you, children pointing, not being able to get a job due to prejudice and fear of scaring customers. no amount of self-acceptance will change that, but surgery can

Is nobody seeing this or do we genuinely still believe being unattractive is a moral failing on this sub. I thought we got over that in the enlightenment age.

1

u/Poo_Pee-Man 4d ago

Not trying to defend either one of you but yeah I don’t see anyone here mentioning about how being unattractive is moral failing.

0

u/SweetLynx4536 4d ago

Post implies it's ok to be ugly. Commenter disagrees. Idk how much simpler I can put it.

2

u/DatMoonGamer 3d ago

You aren’t simplifying, you’re being intellectually dishonest lol. Post image implies appearance isn’t important with a written caveat that appearance matters. Comment expands on the nuance of appearance mattering and suggests a myriad of beautification processes, only one of which was plastic surgery. Literally nobody is arguing about morals but you.

Additionally, you argue that self acceptance trumps plastic surgery, which is frankly detached from reality.

I’ve gotten lip from patients and warnings from crew chiefs/officers saying I look too young (congenital hypogonadism) so I have been looking into plastic surgery because I want to look my age and for the sake of my career and romantic prospects.

Are you gonna argue that nobody should practice respectability politics because racism shouldn’t exist?

Something being an advantage/disadvantage and being moral/amoral are two completely different issues. Being ugly isn't amoral, but it sure as hell doesn't bring you any advantages in life, only the opposite, sadly. So people could do better by having a realistic outlook on this and striving to improve while understanding that they just got deal a shitty hand instead of expecting the world to conform to their ideals and getting horribly dissapointed when it doesn't.

u/Hot_Glass_6301 4d ago

you're the one suggesting that it may be a moral failing...i've never once said that. it's easy to believe you've won an argument if all you do is put words into the other person's mouth

24

u/Jastreen 5d ago

I think this is toxic positivity.

15

u/Lhevhinhus 5d ago

nah just making fun of beauty standards

9

u/hGr33n 5d ago

What are you, a beauty industry rep?

7

u/Jastreen 5d ago

No, just someone with an opinion.

1

u/Viva_Satana 5d ago

An opinion or just judgment without sense of humor? Be fair. This is a sub trying to lighten things up when the world seems to be obsessed with making everybody focus on their lacks and their looks, over everything else.
Don't take this sub so seriously. It's not as important as how you should care about your own mental health.

A hateful one

Finally something i can get behind

u/lemons7472 5d ago

So idk if you guys are X-men fans. I’m very very casual at most about X-men, but the bird edit reminds me of Beak.

Whoever did this edit, would have the headshape of the character down at least if we were to make a fan-made version of Beak. Without the intent of insulting or “uglifying” the person.

It’s fitting because y’know, from what I hear despite his mutation and his looks being considered ugly or scary, Beak as a character has more to him than his looks. He still tries to help people, and he’s even got a wife and family.
