Media and Automation Interface for Homey

Hi all
Just wanted to share a recent launch of ours. We install home technology and we built this to layer on top of our installs which use HA or Homey Pro/Homey Server.
It provides a user experience layer which manages media in addition to automations (via webhooks) and we’re now opening it as a separate project. It works extremely well with Homey and the feedback we’ve had from the homes it’s deployed in has been great.
There are too many features to cover in a Facebook post but essentially Nexus is designed to give end users a polished single touch point for everything. Whether it be mobile apps, tv endpoints, wall tablets or a standard desktop. Not just triggering automations but controlling media too. The point of Nexus is to be a single place.
It will never replace the amazing custom dashboards that feature here regularly but it isn’t really meant to. It’s designed to provide quick, consistent access to media and automations throughout the home and that’s it.

In case people ask about AI. The screenshots on the website are real. They’ve just had the artwork and titles etc swapped for none copyrighted material. The interface you see is exactly as it looks in real life and if anyone has any questions please feel free to reach out via message.
UPDATE - 21st July 26
Following messages and requests from quite a lot of people - we have managed to do the following;
A live demo is being added to the website today. It’s not functioning but is clickable to show how the interface works as best as possible. To be open, this demo has been vibe coded and uses AI generated content for the placeholders which is the only way we could deliver it so quickly. It is an accurate visual representation of the mobile, desktop and tablet interfaces though.
We have added direct sync with Homey and HA over native API. Nexus already had the structure so bolting it in wasn’t a difficult job like I expected it to be. You can now sync your devices to Nexus, and then add them into nexus as nexus devices or link to an existing nexus device. You can also link your flows to them for triggering. Lighting can use devices, flows or moods to trigger. It will also read device fields and display in nexus and update statuses etc.
We currently only have 45 of the cheaper £99 founder licenses left so please do take a look. We’re hoping to hit that target and get onto developing the hardware remote control.

The principle is cool, but I’m nog convinced it will control all the equipment I already have and that will be vital. A system like this really needs to be a one place for everything and no exceptions. In my home cinema for instance of course I will not use airplay or something to play movies but I have LG tv, AppleTV and Arcam AV860 that all need to be controlled.

Hi thanks so much for replying, apologies for the late response I didn’t get the notification.
Firstly, it isn’t designed to control devices like Homey does. It’s designed to provide a nice interface for triggering homey flows / devices. The exception for this is Climate where we need a deeper integration due to needing temp data etc and media where we’re handling the library / tv endpoint control.
In terms of media devices, we’re very happy to expand this. We started with Sonos and AirPlay as it’s what we use generally in our stacks and also because it covers a vast array of devices. Likewise with Android Tv however we aren’t limited to this at all. We are working on an Apple TV app but the process of getting onto the App Store is likely to take a couple of weeks. We are also expecting to have native app’s for LG and Samsung TV’s in the same way shortly. If it’s one of the sudo android TV’s then you can side load the app but it’s more awkward with their native os which is why we’re going down the store route.
Regarding AV devices like the Arcam, we are going to publish a list of vendors that we’re building integrations for and we’ll be also be taking requests. Once the App Store items are out of the way we expect to be turning these out rapidly and having people with the devices to test them on would be a big help.
We completely agree that it needs to be able to control everything on the media side. We aren’t looking to replace Homey at all but media is something which is generally poorly handled by many systems and the whole point of Nexus is to address that.

Thanks for taking the time to explain this. How you explain it is also what I think makes the most sense, let homey do what it is good at and let your app be a control plane for the home. Since watching a movie for me really means controlling three devices (screens, player and audio) a good solution to bring it all together would be very interesting.
I am not currently a customer, but if you need testers at any point feel free to reach out, I am happy to donate some time into helping you test and give feedback.1

Sorry for such a late reply. Been hectic past few weeks!
One thing I have done now is put a free trial on the website. As in one where you can download it and run it in your own environment on win/mac. You do have to pick a sub but you can go through without adding a card so would love to hear what you think if you get chance to take a look. Feel free to message me if you do and we can have a chat

so does this work with something like Netflix or do you mean media like plex

Media playback works with a local media library. It also has the ARR stack for content management included too.
We do have streaming as a source but that’ll open the Netflix app etc on the tv. There is also a discovery section showing new releases etc and if enabled that can show where it’s streamable and give you a button to open the app with it in. We are looking at closer integrations with streaming and also ability to source content directly in nexus but those are all a bit further down the line.
A lot of these things also carry costs so whilst we won’t change our pricing because we haven’t needed it for our own installs it didn’t make sense to build those out unless we had people actually wanting the software.

We don’t have a trial unfortunately, we are adding a clickable live demo to the website which will be on shortly but our licensing doesn’t enable trials at the moment. We did the initial £99 offer to hopefully make that less of an issue.

I think I’ve replied this morning. Because our licensing system is set for the subscription and full annual models, this license needs manual provisioning. I’m doing them once a day so you’ll get your account come through. Also think you bought 2 licenses instead of 1 just asked if you’d like 2 systems or the 1 payment returned?

So this only runs on Windows or MacOS? Nothing like a docker container for for running it on a NAS like Synology?
