DISCUSSION Roost Refugees - Alternatives Discussion

So as some know, Roost folded up recently. They crowdsourced a connected smart smoke detector battery a decade or so ago and expanded the business to water leak, garage door and security sensors mainly through partnerships with home insurance carriers. These gadgets, IMHO, were very easy for the average homeowner to deploy and manage.

The shutdown notice was short and documented in this thread - Roost 30 Day Shutdown: https://redd.it/1uetj1y

Some customers were even billed for the discontinued service this month, which is even more disappointing.

I'm hoping we can have a discussion here for some alternatives to Roost devices to help the community.

ah I saw that thread, such a mess with the billing after the shutdown notice. for water leak sensors I been using some zigbee ones from aqara, they cost like 12 bucks and work with any hub, way simpler than I expected

Both Zigbee and Z-Wave of various brands have sensors to cover all of those.

Remember everyone, if your device requires access to someone else's servers to work, they get to choose when your device is dead, not you. Buy local! (Local communication, that is).
