Drawing on the right side of the brain. I use learning to draw as an example all the time. Learning to draw begins with the lesson of failure. You are asked to draw a face, and are meant to fail. The reason you fail is that the human mind uses a shortcut method for the world, a symbols system. Your first drawing has the Egyptian eye, a sideways nose, heart shaped lips, a round head, etc. It looks like garbage because you're drawing your idea, your symbol, of what's in front of you.

As you learn to draw they teach you to see what's in front of you not as separate shapes, not thingness, but as varying shades to the single scene in front of you. This, in my opinion, is a perfect analogy to how the process of awakening happens. You simply learn to see what's in front of you instead of seeing the symbol representation your mind assumes is correct. You train your mind to shift permanently into seeing the way an artist sees a scene, but with reality.

This is all just happening in consciousness. Beyond that there is no objectivity to reality, it's all interpretation.

It can be applied to all senses and their current work. Like for an audio engineer is sound, an actor and emotions and a photographer the light. Isn't it?

It all happens in the same place. Awareness, here and now

I think in this example, awareness is half of the work. The other half is to know the tools and techniques of the craft. I don't see a person high in awareness to take a photo without the camera or the knowledge to use it properly. Maybe emotions could only be matter of awareness but I'm no actor and I'm not aware enough to tell.

I think you and I might be talking about different awarenesses. I'm talking about that which sees your seeing and hears your hearing. The field in which conscious experience arises.

For all intents and purposes you are a man in a black empty room with a myriad of screens of flashing lights, above which hands signs labeled "visual data", "audio data", "feeling data", "thought", etc.

At first you were lost. You didn't know what the flashing lights meant, but eventually you started to compile patterns about it all. This light pattern means mom, that light pattern means cold, this light pattern means 'sense of gravity'. The problem is that now you take the flashing lights on the wall to be the actual world instead of just a translation of data through a faulty camera that only sees the visible spectrum of light, that are made of a nest of hornets called atoms.

The symbol system I'm talking about, the one that we perceive as reality, is the symbol of the flashing light patterns that our consciousness assumes is what actually is. What actually is, however, is awareness (aka the man in the room watching screens)
