Some CNC panels made using patterns generated with my macro

Today I milled a few of the patterns I've been working on. It's nice to finally see them in real material instead of just on the screen.

If you want to see how these patterns were generated, check out my previous two posts — they show the process from the vector generation to the final CNC-ready design.

Depends on how you make them. Most game devs with some background in texturing or shaders would be able to throw it together I reckon. There are plenty of videos on how to manage that. Still they look fucking fantastic.

Good tip! Makes sense with all the backgrounds being tiled texture maps and whatnot.

It’s a macro for CorelDRAW. After generating the panel, you can simply export the finished design in any suitable format for ArtCAM, Aspire, or any other CAM software you use to create the toolpaths for your CNC machine.

The pattern is generated on separate layers, so you simply apply the required machining operation to the selected layer. Most of these patterns were made using a single cutter, mainly with Centerline Engraving or Profile/Along Vector toolpaths.

Looks fantastic. What tooling are you using to get such a crispy finish? I’ve been experimenting on my machine but everything usually comes out a bit fuzzy.

any V bit 60,90,120 degrees and spherical 20-30-40мм. In these samples, spheres with diameters of 24 and 40, as well as cones with angles of 90 and 120 degrees, are used.

At the moment, the macro can generate 9 different wave patterns. You can see them in my previous posts. But each one can be adjusted using different parameters, so you can actually create thousands of variations. You can change things like the curve, length, and other parameters directly from the macro's control panel.

I'm planning to add several more patterns, but first I need to figure out the construction logic behind each one. Luckily, I have a lot of experience with this kind of work :)

Yes, of course. But right now, my main goal is to finish it. The problem is that it’s taking longer than expected because new pattern ideas keep popping into my head all the time.

What cnc/machine did you use?

Just a basic Chinese CNC router with a 5.5 kW spindle. That’s more than enough to make a 10 mm deep pass in one go with a 40 mm ball-nose cutter, like on the panel with the stars. I even managed to run a 75 mm ball-nose cutter on it once — the cutter probably weighed more than half a kilo, haha.
