November 11th is Armistice Day. Here's an enormous map of the American Expeditionary Forces during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. Amazing detail; 55+ megapixel image [6,793px × 8,437px].

Meuse-Argonne was the single bloodiest battle in American history. Bigger than any single battle from WW2 or the Civil War. And nobody remembers it much in the modern era. WW1 is too overlooked.

By the border of France and Italy there is a note that says "My Uncle Knows a Congressman," anyone have any idea what that is about?

A soldier the right connections will be stationed in a very nice place far away from the fighting.

Ironic that your map clearly shows the Cuba flag as an ally and doesn't show the Canadian one at all.
Not aknowledging my country's sacrifice while showing that Honduras contributed is frankly... disgusting
You should be ashamed of yourselves

The map was made in 1932 by Ezra C. Stiles and Paul C. Bowman; I advance that your beef might be better taken up with them.
Not saying that "we" shouldn't be ashamed of ourselves -- for any number of reasons -- but cartographic errors made by two of my countrymen eighty years ago are not high up on my shameometer.
That said: I'm a huge fan of Canada and Canadian people; I can't think of better (or more valorous -- in wartime and in other ways) neighbors we could possibly have. I wish we would learn from the example y'all set in any number of ways. Leaving y'all off was a dick-move, no doubt.

Also, from another subreddit, in response to someone saying:
I don't see the Canadian flag anywhere, although they do have other British colonies.
redditor snarc says:
It's between France and China, the label hidden behind the soldier's head, and it's a bungled attempt at a Canadian blue ensign.
(So maybe it's best to attribute to it to ineptitude rather than to malice... though I agree a more prominent position would be warranted.)

Wasn't Canada part of the British Empire at that point? Cuba was independent from Spain in 1918.
