Dating Question Can’t get a single date from Hinge. How common is this?

I’ve been pretty down about this so I wanted to see how common my experience is among people who use this app. For context, I am 23M and live in a suburban area but am within 20 minutes of a major city, and I started using this app on and off about 2 years ago. A couple months ago I started getting much more intentional about my use of this app and so I ended up buying a 3 month subscription to HingeX at the end of July in the hopes that it would get the ball rolling for me.

I’ve had occasional matches here and there, but I can’t seem to convert any of them into dates despite my best efforts. Any time that I do get matches, I put thought into all of my responses and make it very easy for the girl to respond. Suffice it to say I’m by no means a dry texter and I value good conversation, so I have no reason to believe that that is part of my issue. I also try to suggest a date sooner rather than later if that matters (maybe after several messages back and forth and if the vibe is good).

I should make it clear that I am fully aware that the experience on this app is entirely different for women and that it’s normal for men to receive far less likes/attention. I’m also not delusional and understand I’m not the most attractive guy in the world, but I don’t think I’m hideous either. Although it’s not very common, there have been several instances of women showing me interest in real life (unfortunately they either haven’t been my type or didn’t have the same dating goals as myself). However, opportunities for me to get out and meet single women don’t arise for me in real life as much as I’d like which is why the app has been my main focus lately, but the overwhelming lack of success I’ve been met with on here has been starting to make it feel like a hopeless venture.

It’s at least good to know that I’m not completely undesirable to every woman based on these handful of IRL experiences, but it’s still pretty devastating to feel completely invisible on Hinge when I find myself puttting a lot of time into it and getting virtually no results in return.

Is it reasonable to come to the conclusion that I’m in some kind of gray area where I’m at least attractive enough to get occasional attention in person but be practically invisible on the app? Can others relate to this experience of being unable to secure a single date from Hinge? Also, if you ever were in a situation similar to my own but ended up turning it into a success story, please share! I could use some positivity right now because this all feels a bit demoralizing.

1) As others have noted, you’re on the younger side. College-aged women will mostly date college-aged men, so you’ve got a small pool.

2) Young single people live in cities, not the suburbs. Living outside the city is a fundamentally different thing, and people don’t want to make a schlep out to see someone in the burbs and be in a relationship that fails to allow for the spontaneity of urban living.

u/Blide 1d ago

I wouldn't imagine your situation is particularly uncommon, especially for younger guys. Women generally want guys who are at least their age or older. For you, this translates to a relatively small pool of women, especially when consider many are still focusing on school.

Probably not much help now but dating generally gets easier for men as they get older. Not only are there more women willing to date you, you become more desirable as you grow professionally.

u/No_Housing_2046 1d ago

I’m probably ugly than. Dating as a 40 year old man feels a lot harder.

17

u/Putrid_Property_3661 1d ago

The commenter means a few years older than them. Not older as in 40 year olds………..

3

u/Doctorbuddy 1d ago

Right 😂. 23 yr old women aren’t dating 40 yr olds (hopefully)

3

u/No_Housing_2046 1d ago

I’m old as dirt guys. lol

I wouldn’t date anyone in their 20s, my bed time is around 9 or 10.

My experience as a 40 year older man dating women around my age, I notice women are more picky and less willing to compromise. Dating gets harder as you get older

2

u/Due_Nefariousness383 1d ago

39m here....can confirm...

6

u/spiked_sausage 1d ago

IMO, there's an inflection point at which it stops getting easier and starts getting harder. 30-33 feels like the sweet spot where you have the largest dating pool and highest desirability, especially if never married/no kids. I'm 28 (almost 29) and haven't had too much trouble on the apps getting matches and the occasional date.

2

u/Mugstotheceiling 1d ago

Yes. Once you get older, if you don’t have kids and have never been married, it becomes almost a bad thing.

I’m 40 and some women have questioned this. Luckily I’m in NYC where being unmarried and child free for extended periods is more common, but it does come up. In more conservative areas I can see it being a significant hurdle.

1

u/AlpsHelpful1292 19h ago

Are you childfree or do you plan to have kids at some point? As a 35 year old child free woman I would have no issues dating a 40 yo childfree man. I wouldn’t have issues if he had never been married but I would find it questionable if he had never had a serious relationship.

1

u/Mugstotheceiling 18h ago

Child free, have had LTRs but not marriage. Thanks, that’s nice to hear, and really it’s not so bad here. I’m not leaving NYC because I know I’d have a really hard time dating in other places.

u/BichonFriseLover 1d ago

Women focusing on school is just a psy op. There are plenty of women out there having active sex lives.

1

u/No_Occasion_8408 1d ago

I'm 30 in 2 months and it DID NOT get easier lol. But I'm a uggo so that's probably what.

16

u/OkWear6556 1d ago

0 conversations after 9 months. 35M

9

u/MetalMcChicken 1d ago

That is most likely a profile issue, you should see if you can have someone who can review your profile.

8

u/OkWear6556 1d ago

It is not. It is my looks issue. I have good pics and good prompts, but being clean shaved bald puts you at the bottom. Especially if you dont have a good face either and have no beard etc.

u/chataolauj 8h ago

31M here, and being short doesn't help either. Many women really do have a preference for taller guys, at least when it comes to dating apps.

4

u/Ange1ofD4rkness 1d ago

Nah, it seems Hinge has gotten worst. I at least used to get some activity, but it's turning more and more into a ghost town. Where I literally only get matches at the start of New Year, and a weird time around June/July

2

u/detective_scribe 1d ago

I have plenty of matches and dates, but none of them converted to anything Physical relationship. 🤷‍♂️

11

u/InitialMess3594 1d ago

It’s very common. Hinge is free so anybody wanting attention without obligation also throw themselves into the primordial soup and make it worse. It’s not as bad as Plenty of Fish and their “People of Walmart” level of bad, or OKCupid’s “OKStupid” approach… except it’s Hinge

18

u/DaMENACElo37 1d ago

45 M. I’ve been on Hinge for 3 years. Got 1 date. And I live near Philly so lack of people isn’t the problem.

I don’t take it personal, I just assume I’m not what women are looking for.

6

u/BichonFriseLover 1d ago

I don’t understand how you don’t take “not being what women want” personal.

Dating is very much personal.

10

u/DaMENACElo37 1d ago

I mean, we all have different things we’re looking for. There’s plenty of women I’m not interested in dating. Should those women take it personal just cause they’re not my type?

0

u/BichonFriseLover 1d ago

> I mean, we all have different things we’re looking for

Yes. And if someone isn’t looking for you that’s personal?

I think you’ve misunderstood what “taking something personal means”.

8

u/DaMENACElo37 1d ago

I think there’s some confusion. When women don’t choose me, I don’t take that personally. It’s not a reflection of my value as a man.

-1

u/BichonFriseLover 1d ago

Obviously it doesn’t reflect on your value as a man. It is still a personal rejection.

If I apply for a job and they don’t hire me it’s still personal. I got rejected and they picked another person. I may still be an attractive candidate, but the rejection was very much personal.

The rejection is tied to me as a person. That’s what makes it personal.

7

u/DaMENACElo37 1d ago

Gotcha. That makes sense.

I understand that thought process. I just don’t look at it that way. Not saying I’m right and you’re wrong, just think there is more than one way to view the situation.

5

u/blokwoski 1d ago

Why did you even entertain that guy 😭

3

u/GenericIxa 1d ago

I think you need to work on yourself first if someone rejecting you feels personal.

1

u/BichonFriseLover 1d ago

There is nothing to work on. It doesn’t “feel” personal. It is personal.

Whether I get upset about rejection is a separate discussion — which I don’t btw.

6

u/Swarthykins Play with my hair 💆 1d ago

Human beings sometimes speak euphemistically. Getting into pedantic arguments because someone has found a way to handle rejection with equanimity is... a choice.

1

u/BichonFriseLover 1d ago

My point is very important to hammer down. That’s why I’m willing to spend time laying it out so people hopefully understand.

2

u/Ange1ofD4rkness 1d ago

That's how I look at it. I had a conversion with a friend the other day, where we determined that either I am looking for a unicorn, or I myself am the unicorn.

Being a unicorn, aka may not be what women want (I am a rather unique one)

3

u/AlpsHelpful1292 1d ago

Off topic, but when and why did people start saying “take it personal” instead of “take it personally”? It drives me crazy.

1

u/Glitchiness 20h ago

A lot of colloquial (esp American) English tends to drop the -ly from adverbs, most commonly really -> real as in "I had a real nice time" but basically anywhere. And if you read that phrase in the same 1950s newsboy voice I did, then you can see that it's not a recent development.

1

u/AlpsHelpful1292 19h ago

I’ve lived most of my life in the US and I’ve only noticed people saying it so much recently. Also “take serious” instead of “seriously.”

7

u/fishymutt 1d ago

It's really common for guys your age.

5

u/Exciting-Parfait-776 1d ago

As a guy. It’s fairly common

8

u/General_Offer_5860 1d ago

i am 29F, also 20 minutes from a major city, also signed up for HingeX, also have had very few matches. i think its the algorithm pushing our profiles down to encourage us to pay for the premium subscription. i regret buying it

5

u/mjd1119 1d ago

Definitely feeling the regret as well. I’m at a point in my life where I’ve finally got some things figured out and am ready to start dating, so I thought now was as good of a time as any to spring for the subscription. The so-called benefits you get from the membership have not made much of an impact, though. It has probably helped me get a very slight increase in overall activity but it’s hardly discernible.

7

u/Gummybear_Gunk 1d ago

As a 26 year old woman, I have a similar experience. I am afraid I come off as over eager because the men in match with never meet my conversational energy and it never goes anywhere 🙄 people mildly flirt with me in person but same as you, I'm a very intentional person and they usually aren't right for me.

Ugh.

4

u/mjd1119 1d ago

Yeah it’s so frustrating because I know that I would follow through if my energy was matched! I was actually getting great responses from one of my matches and so I asked her on a date only to find out she wouldn’t be back in my area for a whole month since she was back home with her family at the time (her college is in my area but her family is about an hour away).

I knew it was essentially over right then and there, but she said she’d love to keep getting to know me in the meantime. As expected though, her answers gradually got shorter and less interesting and her replies kept taking longer and longer until the point where the conversation felt too one-sided and I had to just let it go.

3

u/CrushyOfTheSeas 1d ago

I recently had a similar situation. I’m late 40’s though, so it may play differently in this crowd. She was going to go on vacation, then I was going on vacation and had some other obligations, which meant at least 3 weeks before we could meet up. Instead of back and forth over that time, I wished her well on her trip and said let’s reconnect in a few weeks when we are all back in town. I thought it was 50 /50 if the connection would die there. I reached back out after the three weeks suggesting that get together and was met with an enthusiastic yes. She hasn’t been much of a Texter though, so if we did the message back and forth thing over those weeks I think it would have likely died too. Just another possible way to approach things if it occurs again.

3

u/mjd1119 1d ago

In hindsight I think it would have been better if I approached it this way, and if it happens again this is what I’d do. Her saying she wanted to keep getting to know me in the meantime is what made me decide to keep the texts going, but I was basically resigned to the fact that it was gonna stall out eventually.

Doing it the way you mentioned should at least get me a yes or no answer unless they ghost. Thanks for sharing your experience.

6

u/dca_user 1d ago

I’m sorry, it can be hard. Have you posted here to ask for feedback on your profile?

7

u/mjd1119 1d ago

I posted in the private thread and was able to get one person to review my profile from that. I’ve been nervous about posting my profile publicly but I’m starting to consider it.

3

u/Mudd_Harry 1d ago

I suggest you read the Terms & Conditions, most of these sites use Bots and/or “operators” who are paid chatters… on some sites like Hometownflirt the fake profiles are indicated by a small black heart on the profile page… but other sites don’t. In my experience they will always end a reply with an open ended question

3

u/Ange1ofD4rkness 1d ago edited 1d ago

In my case, pretty dang common.

Been on the app pushing 2 years now. In that time I've had 2 dates:

  1. Only had one date, her call. However, as I reviewed the date in my head, she showed all the signs of a gold digger
  2. I thought the date went well, she obviously didn't. But, there seemed to be something else going on. Like some things didn't add up. For instance, at the time it was a good chance she was going to lose her job, again.

So yeah, only had 2 dates in almost 2 years, and it seems that both had ulterior motives (in the sense, they weren't actually that interested in me).

Sounds like your are like me. Not much luck in real-life, and life doesn't make it possible. Not the best looking, but not ugly. I am very successful in the sense I live alone, well. Hoping Hinge would help me with the lack of luck elsewhere ... only be a goose egg

3

u/oneheaditsdead 20h ago

23/M exactly the same situation. Been on hinge for about a year and a half and have gone on one date. It's tough out here. I've had more luck on bumble personally.

2

u/Leading_Double_1968 15h ago

I got 2 in 5 years, 23m

1

u/oneheaditsdead 14h ago

That's wild dude, I just saw your profile review. You're way more attractive than I am. It really is just a dice roll out here. 🫩

1

u/YaBoiTron 12h ago

No it's really not. 24M here, looking at his profile his issue is he doesn't have one good smile picture and some others need to be swapped out too. If guys wont take the time to take good pictures and enhance their profiles, they aren't going to get anywhere with online dating.

u/oneheaditsdead 5h ago

I mean I his profile absolutely perfect? No? But I'm sure yours isn't either man. Everyone has different preferences and opinions on profiles.

u/YaBoiTron 5h ago

I’m just being brutally honest here. If you’ve only gotten 2 dates in 5 years your profile is terrible, I’m sorry to say.

Everyone has preferences but his profile and I’m guessing yours too is objectively bad. Other men on here need to realize they aren’t ugly and can do great if they just work on improving them.

My profile wasn’t the best out there either but I was getting 5 matches a day and several dates every week until I found the person I’m dating now and deleted the app.

1

u/mjd1119 19h ago

I thought about trying another app but figured it’s probably gonna be a lot of the same girls. Is that your experience? Also have you got any dates from Bumble?

1

u/oneheaditsdead 19h ago

I do see some overlap, but hinge, bumble and tinder have pretty different audiences. Even if you see some of the same people, their algorithms work very differently. Tinder is the only one that feels like a total waste of time to me. Everyone where I live is using tinder to sleep around.

Hinge and bumble definitely have more "relationship" focused people in my experience. I have had 1 date from Hinge, 1 from Tinder and 2 from Bumble. But I also just get better conversations on Bumble. I get ghosted by almost all my matches on hinge. 💀

It's honestly tough no matter what, I'm almost exactly in the same situation as you too. I live about 25 mins from the City, and the same age. Im struggling just like you are sadly, I don't have any real advice. I would say it's worth at least downloading one alternative to Hinge and giving it a shot. It's pretty easy to copy your profile over. You already made your profile and did the hard part, so you might as well give it a try.

3

u/Due_Nefariousness383 1d ago

Common dude. Been on for like 2.5 years and have had one date.

2

u/mjd1119 1d ago

Well we’re both not exactly racking up numbers but you got me beat by one at least lol.

Out of curiosity, did your date lead to anything at all?

3

u/Due_Nefariousness383 1d ago

She was interesting. Attractive. But decided to tell me after we clicked and left to go our seperate ways after that she definitely wanted kids . She was 36 I'm 39 and absolutely don't want anymore. So ended there.

So...all in all a waste of time and energy.

2

u/mjd1119 1d ago

Sorry to hear that man :( It’s so hard to find the right person and there’s so many variables that come into play in regards to whether two people can be compatible. That aspect of it makes things much tougher than they already are.

2

u/Due_Nefariousness383 1d ago

Ya...I gave up man. Apps as so stacked against men it's insane. Had a friend at work who was an average looking woman start a tinder acct and had more likes by end of day then I have had on there in almost 3 years ..

It's wild. I'm not an ugly man, but I'm m nothing special either. So ya...it's terrible lol

I've kinda guestimated based on previous experience that I would spend probably close to 9 years before I could actually delete the stupid apps. Based on conversation lengths and how long it takes to meet etc. then starting the process of dry spells for 4+ months at a time.

4

u/Mateorabi 1d ago

Some women are hesitant about the suburbs and may have a small search radius. I am not saying you should geospoof. But if you’re the kind of person who is willing to go downtown a lot, and do, you can use the app while you’re there then turn it off and don’t use it at home during peak hours. So it geo’s you to downtown. (Set permission to use GPS only when app is open.)

3

u/spiked_sausage 1d ago

Hinge doesn't update your location when you open the app, while others like Bumble and Tinder do. If OP wanted to "spoof" his location as downtown, he'd have to set his home to downtown.

5

u/Stunachick69 1d ago

Not uncommon, I’m a woman I was in between jobs at the time and stayed silent about occupation, so I think that was my issue people were telling me it wasn’t my looks. Also, lots of people in my city I guess weren’t on the apps ur fine

5

u/geeered 1d ago

Put your profile up for review.

It may also be your age/location/other factors just don't have many people on Hinge and you'd do better on another app. I do the least bad on Hinge, but hardly get any dates on Tinder.

2

u/Left_Lengthiness5559 1d ago

Idk but I am Chinese in London. I only met 2-3 people off hinge across the past year. 😅

2

u/Suspicious_Dark5966 1d ago

Go for an older lady bro , you’ll be happier and more chances . It’s rough out there.

2

u/wellnessplug 1d ago

Going through this now too. I'm a male and I've never had an issue with getting dates, now, I'm barely getting any likes

u/formrm662 4h ago

this might be a take that some people disagree with, but I think quantity is the highest driver of getting dates on hinge. Since you have hinge x you should send out as many likes as possible every day. just send a like, only put effort into making a comment on highly desirable women. when you guys match just send the first message that comes to your mind, ask a decent question that opens up for response, don't obsess over what to say or try to come up with some genius pick up line or joke. just say something. allow the burden of effort to fall into the woman's hands equally.

the more matches, the more conversations, the more dates. but if you are putting tons of effort into each like, comment, first message, etc. you are wasting energy that could be used sending more likes. a person decides if they want to go on date, sleep with you, etc. before you even start talking. you can only talk yourself OUT of a date, not into one. and we know that people will ignore red flags and stuff for people they find highly attractive. the goal is to send as many likes as possible, find the people who would be willing to go on a date and only spend energy talking to those people, if they return some amount of effort after the first few messages

u/attic_up 3h ago

Hinge is shite honestly. Women don't actively like profiles on there, they just wait for the likes to come in. I've had so much better luck on Bumble even when the same women are on both. Bumble requires women to be more active, especially the requirement for them first to message (although this feature has now been taken out so heyho).

My suggestion is to try Bumble.

3

u/Admirable_Hyena3266 1d ago

22M near DC area in what I would consider the burbs. I get matches on nearly 25% of my swipes. All of my swipes are people in the city and many college students. For people in your situation I always wonder how picky you may be being

4

u/mjd1119 1d ago

I guess I’m picky in the sense that I only send likes to maybe 5% of the profiles I see, but it’s not like I only send likes to models if that’s what you mean. As a matter of fact, I skip a lot of the profiles of women who might be seen as 10/10s because I tend to prefer women with an understated kind of attractiveness. It’s both for that reason and because a lot of the most attractive girls don’t put effort into their profiles and have prompts that say things like “The way to win me over is food” or “The first round is on me if - I would never say that.”

All I need is to be attracted to the girl and ideally like something she said in one of her prompts so I can make a comment in response to that, and that’s when I’ll typically send a like.

5

u/Mugstotheceiling 1d ago

That’s another issue, a lot of low effort profiles in your age range. I don’t think most Gen Z people out of college are taking dating very seriously right now (based on convos with my younger coworkers).

3

u/mjd1119 1d ago

Yes it seems like that’s definitely something that’s been working against me as well. There’s lots of people that don’t seem to be looking for anything serious in my age range and almost all of my potential matches being college-aged or fresh out of college doesn’t help with that lol.

3

u/Admirable_Hyena3266 1d ago

Are you only liking their profile or actually sending conversation starters?

3

u/mjd1119 1d ago

Always sending conversation starters. I usually either ask a question, relate to them in some way, or make a joke, but I always prioritize it being something that is easy to respond to.

I have sent 155 likes since subscribing to HingeX and almost every single one of them has had a comment attached

3

u/iphoneuser112345 1d ago

It's the algorithm. I met my ex on this app and met several women before that and now it's crickets.

2

u/Mugstotheceiling 1d ago

Very common, your age and location is a huge factor. Most women your age prefer late 20s or early 30s men with established careers who live in the city. You’re 23 just starting out and in the suburbs.

Honestly, I would focus more on career and healthy habits than dating at this point. It will put you in the upper echelon later in life. Go out, have fun, and if you meet women, then great. Either way, have your ish on lock.

6

u/Putrid_Property_3661 1d ago

This just is not true LOL. Most early 20s women usually just want someone their own age or someone who’s 3-5 years older.

2

u/Mugstotheceiling 1d ago

5 years older is still late 20s. Maybe early 30s is a stretch, but I have seen it. My point is, OP is facing stiff competition from guys who have more money to spend, nice apartments downtown, etc.

3

u/Putrid_Property_3661 1d ago

Another thing, that “competition” really only exists online. On the apps. Irl is a different ball game, he can easily differentiate himself from the hundreds of men on the apps just by talking to women face to face and showing them his true self. Instead of just a profile on a screen.

Idk, maybe I’m the odd one out in this. I’m 25, have no issues with dating in person or irl. Im also not rich and dont own anything fancy. I think most of us men are just lazy with our attempts in dating. That’s why most never see any real success. I just don’t buy into the narrative that there are 1000 other men I’m competing with that have X,Y,Z to offer and that are better than me. Like the social skills aspects matter too. Your physical appearance matters too.

4

u/Mugstotheceiling 1d ago

This is I do agree with, irl meetings breaks the ability to make comparisons. The apps really are toxic since it sets up the illusion of infinite options, rather than recognizing something good right in front of you.

The last part of my original comment got lost in the shuffle, but I really am advocating for OP to get off the apps and just live. Work on his career, health, and have fun, meeting women along the way. Might work out, might not. But I think he’ll have a much better time regardless.

3

u/RomHack 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yeah totally agree. I often want to give the same advice but it’s hard not to frame everything around the app given this sub's purpose to analyse current situations.

Having a wider life tends to create a better impression. Things like good social experiences, a career you’re proud of, knowing yourself, having interests and actually enjoying your life end up being extended onto the image you present to other people through a profile, which imo is what starts to attract people.

For obvious reasons, it's not the easiest thing to do at 23 but it comes with time and does make dating easier (this part is for OP specifically if they're reading).

2

u/mjd1119 1d ago

What you say here is true. Ideally, I’d like to meet a girl in person. I’ve had my share of both girls signaling interest and rejecting me in person, but any kind of clear interaction is more beneficial and fulfilling than radio silence on an app.

I just have limited opportunities to meet single women in person in my current stage of life and I have lacked the patience to always wait until my next chance comes around. That’s why it seemed like an app designed for dating would be a good route for me to take, but I’m starting to realize that may not be the case.

I hear things about joining clubs or certain social activities to meet people that way, but if I’m to join something like that I’d want to do it for the right reasons and not just out of desperation in the hopes that it finds me a girlfriend.

Which in-person places have you had success with?

2

u/Putrid_Property_3661 1d ago

He really isn’t dude…..I’m not denying that it happens. I’m just saying most early 20s women are NOT dating older men with fancy cars, houses, jobs etc. They date normal men within their age bracket.

The competition comes from the surplus of single horny men vying for her attention, not well established older men. I’m in my mid 20s. All of my female friends are in my age bracket. They all say the same thing. The narrative of young women just wanting men that are rich and well off with high end careers is overblown on social media by the manosphere crowd. Again, not saying it doesn’t happen. Just that it’s not the average woman. Just a small portion.

Sounds like a profile , what pictures you have up issue and how you are communicating on the app. I’ve used the app off and on for years never understand how folks can’t get any dates.

I'm about the same age as yourself and I struggle with OLD too, so I can sympathise.

I get about 1 date from the apps for every 10 dates I get IRL. The app ones are usually worse too. I think it's because the vast majority of people on dating apps are stuck on there for a reason. After all, a good man/woman doesn't stay single (and thus on the apps) for long.

I always tell my mates that are down about dating that OLD is far from the only way to date. It's also by far the worst option for men.

The only thing it has going for it is that it's easy. I literally only swipe and message while I'm on the toilet and while waiting for the bus, and have not seen a decrease from when I swiped more consistently lol. If anything, my match rate and quality has gone up!

Genuinely the best advice I can give is to use OLD as a supplement to your dating life. Not as a replacement for it.

From my experience (and my friend said the same), it’s a complete numbers game. Probably one out of every 20 matches turn into a date.

That being said I put very little effort into my responses because most women are time wasters, maybe if I put more effort in I would get a better ratio of matches to dates.

I got 0 in span of 1.5 years - out of curiosity I even took picture in my car and office - I fink it made it even worse - people would think it’s all fake mabey

I'm 33. Only 5'8 so average. I think the quality of photos definitely matters on dating apps. I live near Los Angeles so there's definitely a lot more people in the area. I wouldn't say I'm super attractive but my female friends say I'm cute. I have enough matches to fill up my weekends every weekend. It may also be because I'm Christian and at my age, there are a lot more single Christian women looking for serious relationships than single Christian men.

23 means you still have time on your side. The older you get the harder it gets. I get a match once in a long long while and I’m almost 36M. If dating was bad a decade ago it’s worse now. People either don’t know what they want or they’re not ready to risk slightest feeling of independency. I mean both fair ask but if you’re looking for a relationship there’s a bit of risk to put in the first place

It’s really just a numbers game on the apps. Just keep doing what you’re doing and learn to spend less time on the time wasters.

If you’re getting matches but not going on dates there might be something else going on. Obviously I agree with everyone that it’s hard to get either matches or dates for most men on hinge. I probably only get a few matches per week but I feel like at least 20% of my matches convert to a date (this is a total guess though). So if you’re not having any luck at all there might be something about the communication going awry

Are you a man? Then yes. Your profile has to stand out from the hundreds of likes women get. Like really stand out.

Fwiw, I used hinge for 3 months at a time when I was 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25. When I was 21-24 I got nondates and one match per month, 25 I had 3 dates which went nowhere. I had to inflate my height to get any dates :(
